The most beloved lady in America and quite possibly the world is celebrating her 90th birthday today. Who other than Betty White could we be talking about?
With a career that started a couple a few months after high school graduation in 1939 it has seen her blaze trails in memorable roles such as the frisky Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She went on to play Rose Nylund of The Golden Girls, Catherine Piper on Boston Legal, and most recently Elka Ostrovsky the alleged pot-smoking senior in Hot in Cleveland. Those are just four roles of the she has played from 1939 to now with there being far too many to mention.
When not starring in television sitcoms, she was the queen of the game shows where she met husband number three Allen Ludden who was the love of her life. They married June 14, 1963 and were married until his death on June 9, 1981. She has stayed single yet and devoted her life to her love of animals.
In 1988 she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame beside her beloved husband Allen Ludden.
At 90 her career is busier than ever and the demand for her is not slowing down. Last night her Hollywood friends and former colleagues paid tribute to her with a birthday celebration on NBC that was followed up with her latest project ‘Off Their Rockers’, a hidden-camera show that sees seniors prank the younger generation. Betty is an executive producer for this hysterical show.
In 2010 she set precedent on Saturday Night Live as being the oldest host ever. This year she inked a deal to write two books for G.P. Putnam Sons to add to the two she has already written.
When Amy Poehler paid tribute to her on her Birthday Special she remarked how after a 15 hour rehearsal day she still had more energy than the entire cast. It is mind-boggling to think about her career and how it is hotter than ever. AT 90!!!!! And beyond that she is so very sweet and her love of animals is legend. She's the perfect naughty grandma, although she's never had kids of her own.
Okay I realize this reads a bit like an obituary but it is not. She is so remarkable and this is a celebration of her incredible life. But she has to live forever, okay?
We LOVE you Betty White and we wish you a very Happy Birthday and can’t wait to see what the next 10 years in your career brings!
