World Premiere for The Grey in LA

World Premiere for The Grey in LA

…Hey that rhymes!

Joe Carnahan’s The Grey had its world premiere last night in LA at The Regal Theater LA Live. Stars Liam Neeson, James Badge Dale (Shame), Frank Grillo (Warrior) along with Dallas Roberts all came out, as did Maggie Grace, Neeson’s costar in Taken (and Taken 2), Kristen Bell and Minnie Driver, who I guess had nothing else to do on a Wednesday night.

Shouldn’t there be a rule that if you’re IN the movie being premiered that you have to put on a suit and make an effort? (That goes double for actors no one’s heard of and are getting a break by being IN the movie.) I didn’t say you had to wear a tie, just don’t show up looking like you just rolled out of bed. (I’m looking at you Joe Anderson. It’s LA. You’re not that cold.) Giles Marini, James Van Der Beek and Dermot Mulroney are not even IN the movie and they all look very presentable. Bradley Cooper, “Sexiest Man Alive” apparently no longer has to try. (He was on his way to The Weinstein Company party anyway, apparently that was a casual affair.)

Synopsis: In Alaska, an oil drilling team struggle to survive after a plane crash strands them in the wild. Hunting the humans are a pack of wolves who see them as intruders.

The Grey opens in the US, Canada and the UK  on January 27.

Bradley Cooper Goes Into The Words with New Poster and Pics

Bradley Cooper Goes Into The Words with New Poster and Pics

New Year, new movie: up next, The Words, which stars Bradley Cooper (who is another actor poised to have a great 2012 with four films currently in some stage of post-production and slated for release), Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid and Olivia Wilde. The above is the first poster and below we have some first pics.

The Words, which is scheduled to be the closing film of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival later this month, revolves around Rory (Cooper), a struggling writer who claims another man’s long lost work as his own. Caught up in a dangerous conspiracy, the price he must pay is more than he could have ever imagined.

The trouble starts when Dora, Rory’s wife (Saldana) comes across “a valise” in an antiques shop. The valise contains a “lost masterwork” of a  “Hemingway-esque writer” played by Jeremy Irons.

The Words is both written and directed by Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal. In addition to being and actor, Klugman, as well as Sternthal have writing credits on Tron: Legacy. The supporting cast includes Ben Barnes, John Hannah, J.K. Simmons, Michael McKean, Zeljko Ivanek, Ron Rifkin, Liz Stauber, Gianpaolo Venuta, and Nora Arnezeder.

After its Sundance debut, the only release dates we have are for Belgium and the Netherlands in December. I’m thinking that will change soon.  I hope so. I’m very interested. We’ll keep you posted.

First Look at The Silver Linings Playbook with Bradley Cooper!

First Look at The Silver Linings Playbook with Bradley Cooper!

The Silver Linings Playbook, is director David O. Russell’s followup to last year’s Oscar nominated hit, The Fighter. Based on a novel by Matthew Quick, it’s about a man (Bradley Cooper) who has just been released from a mental institution after four years. He moves back in with his mother (Animal Kingdom’s Jacki Weaver) and sets out to win back his ex-wife (Julia Stiles).

The official synopsis: “Pat Peoples (Cooper) is a man always trying to look on the bright side of life – the title of the story takes it’s name from the expression that “every cloud has a silver lining.” Released from the hospital after losing his wife to another man, Pat believes this age-old adage is just the ticket to trying to win her back and get his life on track. Trying to remain resolutely undiscouraged, Pat moves back in with his parents and devotes himself entirely to becoming the man his wife always wanted him to be. But it’s an uphill battle. Until Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a beautiful young woman whose life also has not turned out the way she wanted. Together, the couple will try and navigate through their lives and stay true to who they are, always just one adventure away from a unique friendship, and possibly even love.”

Robert DeNiro fits in there somewhere, perhaps as Pat’s father. The rest of the cast includes Shea Whigham (Take Shelter, “Boardwalk Empire”) and Chris Tucker. I have to say I’m thrilled that Jacki Weaver is getting some play now that Hollywood has taken notice of her. She was tremendous in Animal Kingdom. Let’s hope she’s not quite as terrifying as Pat’s mother.

The Silver Linings Playbook is due out at the end of 2012.

First Official Look at Ryan Gosling in The Place Beyond the Pines

First Official Look at Ryan Gosling in The Place Beyond the Pines

The Place Beyond the Pines, writer/director Derek Cianfrance's follow-up effort to last year's indie darling, Blue Valentine, stars Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper. We’ve shown you set pics including Baby Goose feeding a baby (human) and Cooper’s weird 80s coif. The above is the first official image released by Sierra Infiinity. Love the red leather, still not crazy about those crazy skull & crossbones 80s pajama pants. New details have also emerged since the last time we talked about this film, as well. While the director himself has called the film a “Darwinistic idea of survival through ancestry”, he claims to have been told it’s an epic in the tradition of “The Deerhunter meets The Godfather.” The title comes from the name of the city of Schenectady, New York, where a lot of the filming took place, which is the Mohawk word for "beyond the pine plains."

Synopsis: Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational feud. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.

The rest of the cast for The Place Beyond the Pines includes Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Ray Liotta and Ben Mendelson and is slated for a release sometime in 2013. (2013? For an independent film with no special effects? Are they still raising money to finish the thing?) Odds are it will make the rounds of the festivals next year, starting in May with Cannes.

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Bradley Cooper & Ryan Gosling Filming ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Bradley Cooper & Ryan Gosling Filming 'The Place Beyond The Pines'

We have some exclusive photos for your this morning of Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling on the set of The Place Beyond The Pines that is filming in Schenectady, N.Y thanks to my friend @Steve_fromNY.

He was able to catch some of the on-set action which isn’t too far from his home. He could only get so close (he didn’t have his big lens with him hehe) and they are a bit blurry but Steve was probably very excited to be that close to Bradley Cooper (he is SO  going to kill me for that).

It looks like Bradley Cooper is rocking a mullet and I’m surprised I even noticed what was above his neck given how beefed-up he is.

Bradley Cooper on the Place Beyond the Pines Set!

Bradley Cooper on the Place Beyond the Pines Set!

You’ve seen the Baby Goose (Ryan Gosling) feeding a baby and riding a motorcycle all the while oddly coiffed with bleached blonde hair and covered in tatts. Now get a first look at his co-star Bradley Cooper on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines. I’d be hard pressed to say whose hair was more bizarre. Is this movie set in the ’80′s?

In any case, here’s Bradley, who plays Avery Cross, a policeman turned politician, on a “collision course” with Ryan Gosling’s Luke, a professional motorcycle stunt rider who turns to bank robbery in order to provide for his wife and newborn son.

The Place Beyond the Pines, currently filming in upstate New York is writer/director Derek Cianfrance’s followup effort to last year’s indie darling, Blue Valentine, also starring his pal Gosling.  The cast of The Place Beyond the Pines include Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, Ray Liotta and Ben Mendelson and is slated for a release sometime in 2013. (2013? For an independent film with no special effects? Are they still raising money to finish the thing?)

By the way, you’ll notice one of these things is not like the other. I had to. I just did.
