Aliens are Coming to Sink Your Battleship!

Aliens are Coming to Sink Your Battleship!

Well…there’s a new international trailer for Peter Berg’s Battleship, but I have to say it’s no more illuminating that the others we’ve seen. I doubt anything I say will make a difference as to whether or not you’re interested in seeing it either. I’m all for escapist entertainment, especially during the summer months when it doesn’t take much to get me into an air-conditioned theater.  Given the budget and the talent involved here, it would be nice if they’d produced something a cut above the usual sound and fury of most summer action adventure tent-poles. For all of the money spent on this, it just looks like bits and pieces of stuff we’ve already seen, all strung together.

What is Liam Neeson doing in this, besides playing a stereotypical, “you’re-not-good-enough-to-marry-my-daughter”, hard-assed career military jar-head? And Taylor Kitsch gets the wild-card-maverick-hot-shot role that John Carter will either make palatable or this will be two major missteps in a row. Brooklyn Decker gets to be Liv Tyler (Seriously, does none of this put you in mind of Armageddon?) I’m sure I could match up the rest of the cast with either a “type” or an actual character from another movie – if I cared that much.

Well, take a look at the trailer and decide for yourself. Maybe I’ve got it all wrong. Maybe this will be a subtle and nuanced exploration of how our alien overlords came to be hibernating in the watery depths of the Earth’s oceans and when awakened, they want only to share their culture for the betterment of mankind. And Rihanna will be nominated for Best Supporting Actress in her first role.  Maybe.  In any case, I’m sure Kitsch, Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard and company will look good in their dress whites

Battleship opens 11th April in the UK and May 18 in the US.

“Character” Posters for What to Expect When You’re Expecting

"Character" Posters for What to Expect When You're Expecting

I have no words. Well…almost. Seriously, after the trailer for Kirk Jones’ What to Expect When You’re Expecting that we showed you last month, I didn’t think it could get worse. Then I saw these posters. Are they photographs or are they cartoons? And as if the current trend toward airbrushing any character or distinction out of the faces of already beautiful people wasn’t bad enough, they’re all clutching their fake baby bumps with beatific smiles on their bland faces. All except JLo, who probably refused to look “fat”. (I'm kidding, her character adopts)

And the captions! I can only assume these are actual lines that these characters are forced to say in the context of the movie. Frankly I’m stunned. I said I stared at the trailer in “slack-jawed wonder”, I have no words for what my expression must have been as I clicked on these posters one by one.

The film is based on the popular non-fiction self-help book by Heidi Murkoff, that has this innocuous plot summary: “A look at the lives of five couples as they prepare to become parents.” Now let’s see what the official synopsis is for this He’s Just Not that Into You/Valentine’s Day/New Year’s Eve celebrity mashup. (It’s like The Loveboat set in a maternity ward.)

Over the moon about starting a family, TV fitness guru Jules (Cameron Diaz) and dance show star Evan (Matthew Morrison) find that their high-octane celebrity lives don't stand a chance against the surprise demands of pregnancy. Baby-crazy author and advocate Wendy (Elizabeth Banks) gets a taste of her own militant mommy advice when pregnancy hormones ravage her body; while Wendy's husband, Gary (Ben Falcone), struggles not to be outdone by his competitive alpha-Dad (Dennis Quaid), who's expecting twins with his much younger trophy wife, Skyler (Brooklyn Decker). {Wait a second…didn’t Quaid just have twins with his trophy wife??} Photographer Holly (Jennifer Lopez) is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Nate (Rodrigo Santoro) isn't so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a "dudes" support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. {Holly and Nate? JLo and Rodrigo are "Holly" & "Nate"?} And rival food truck chefs Rosie (Anna Kendrick) and Marco's (Chace Crawford) surprise hook-up results in an unexpected quandary: what to do when your first child comes before your first date?

What to Expect When You’re Expecting was written by Shauna Cross (Whip It), Heather Hach (Freaky Friday) and opens May 11 in the US and 18th May in the UK.

2nd Louder, More Chaotic Battleship Trailer!

2nd Louder, More Chaotic Battleship Trailer!

Well, after having watched the second trailer a few times, I’m not really any more enthused about Battleship (ostensibly based on the board game of the same name but the similarities end there) than I was after the first one. Universal has dropped a new ‘feature trailer’ for its Spring/Summer 2012 tent-pole release. It’s about twenty seconds longer than the initial trailer, but it still reeks of ‘Transformers-At-Sea’.  In fact, it’s difficult to believe that this is not Michael Bay, but a Peter Berg film. Producer/director Berg is capable of nuance and character development (Friday Night Lights) as well as intelligent action (The Kingdom). Michael Bay…not so much. He just likes to blow things up.  And this looks like a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing.

Synopsis: A fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals.

Here’s a look at the new trailer.

Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, Liam Neeson as Admiral Shane, Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, Alex’s fiancé, and you guessed it, the Admiral’s daughter (cue power ballad), Jesse Plemmons (I love how “Friday Night Lights” co-star Kitsch is now an adult but Plemmons is still playing a boy), Peter MacNichol as the Secretary of Defense and Rihanna in her big screen debut, as Petty Officer Raikes.

Battleship starts chumming the waters on 20th April in the UK and May 18 in the US and Canada. We also have new posters and stills to share. Enjoy.

Watch as Real Heroes Set Out to Keep Your Battleship Afloat!

Watch as Real Heroes Set Out to Keep Your Battleship Afloat!

You know, I think I conjured this up. I was thinking (and not in a good way) just the other day that we hadn’t heard anything about Battleship in a while. I was sort of hoping maybe I’d dreamt it up in the first place. Well, silly me. Universal Studios just released the first featurette for director Peter Berg's Battleship which is set for release next year. It’s called ‘Real Heroes’ and in it we get to hear from the US Marines and Naval personnel that worked on the film. Most of the extras that you’ll see in this movie are real Marines doing the jobs they do every day and, if nothing else, will lend a look and feel of authenticity to Berg’s ‘vision’. (I have my doubts as to whether a big screen version of a boardgame deserves the USMC and USN, but Berg deserves an 'A for effort'.)

The synopsis: A fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals. We’ve already shown you a trailer and some images, now take a look at the featurette.

Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Tadanobu Asano, Jesse Plemons and Rihanna in her feature debut.

Battleship sails into the UK on 20 April and the US & Canada on May 18 (What’s up with that??)

Brooklyn Decker Quitting Modeling for the Big Screen

Brooklyn Decker was naturally at the launch party for the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition on Tuesday, and she kind of dropped a bomb on the world.  She’s quitting her day job!  Oh no!  Say it ain’t so.  Brooklyn Decker is too hot to quit now.  But it looks like the acting bug of Hollywood has gotten ahold of her!

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler Premiere ‘Just Go With It’ In NYC

“I think so, I think so,” the blonde beauty told us when asked if she was done modeling, especially after her debut film, ‘Just Go With It,’ ruled the box office in its first week.

PopEater was there to get the inside scoop at the sexy event, check out the scene now:

So what do you think?  Did you see the movie?  Should she keep acting and give up the runway?  Or should she try and do both and keep the whole world happy?

Sexy Vixen Alert: Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman Heat Up ‘Just Go With It’ Premiere (Photos)

Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman were pretty much on fire for the premiere of Just Go With It in New York City last night.  Those ladies put on the sexiest black numbers they could find and then hit the blue carpet at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Welcome A Baby Girl!

Nicole was rocking the sexy leather and Jen was owning the slinky sheer number.  Love it.  I just saw Adam Sandler promoting this flick and I have to say, I can’t wait to see it.  Did you catch the trailer during the Super Bowl?  If not, you can check it out below.  But I will warn you, Brooklyn Decker is ridiculous.  (You’ll see.)

Brooklyn Decker Celebrates Her Sports Illustrated Cover

Decked out in animal print was the gorgeous Brooklyn Decker, and in leather, a sexy and very happy Nicole Kidman rocked the red carpet with her uber sexy husband Keith Urban.  Dave Matthews also appears in the film and I’ve heard he’s quite funny in it.

The romantic comedy is described as:

On a weekend trip to Hawaii, a plastic surgeon convinces his loyal assistant to pose as his soon-to-be-divorced wife in order to cover up a careless lie he told to his much-younger girlfriend.

Last night I caught TMZ and their cameras caught up with the young girl in the movie, Bailee Madison and not only is she the sweetest kid you’ve ever met, she is so mature and smart beyond her years. They were trying to trick her into saying something negative about her co-stars and she told them she wasn’t falling for it. The girl will be 11 in October.

Judging from the trailers it actually looks pretty good and I’ve been hearing good things about it from those that have already seen it.

Will you go and see this film? What do you think of the trailers?

Quote Of The Day By Brooklyn Decker

“When people hear ‘bikini model,’ they have one thing on their mind,” says Decker. “Then they see you’re someone who shows up to the set in pajamas and no makeup, watches sports and belches.”

….Brooklyn Decker on what her experience was like on the set of Just Go With It. She plays Adam Sandler‘s love interest. The movie also stars Jennifer Aniston.
