Immortals Gets Red Carpet Premiere!-photos

Immortals Gets Red Carpet Premiere!

Tarsem Singh’s Immortals premiered on Monday November 7 at LA’s Nokia Theater complete with red carpet and many pretty people. Stars Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Luke Evans, Frieda Pinto, Kellan Lutz and Isabel Lucas all turned out.

Henry Cavill’s got the patented "Fassbender Shark Smile" goin’ on in some of these pics. He definitely looks like he wants to devour me…what? Yeah I know. Wishful thinking. He’s also trying for the "Gerard Butler 'I’m-Gonna-Make-Your-Clothes-Fall-Off-And-Nail-You-To-The-Floor' Look" in some of these too.  Henry's not there yet, but you can tell he's working on it. (Only fitting since as Theseus in Immortals he’s doppleganging for both Stelios and Leonidas from 300.)

Frieda Pinto looked gorgeous as usual. Isabel Lucas looked like she was channeling her inner Lindsey Lohan. I don’t get her. Mickey Rourke brought the crazy as well as his Russian Barbie Doll…I mean girlfriend. Kellan Lutz…I don’t get him either.  Luke Evans…I don’t know. There’s just something snake charmer-esque about him that oddly enough, I like.  I don’t think there’s any question, however, that Henry was the star of the show last night, as well as the movie. Immortals opens this Friday 11-11-11.

Watch This: Fun Featurette for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows!

New Trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows!

A new behind the scenes featurette has been released, via the film’s Facebook page, for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Basically it just gives a little bit more detail about some of the things we’ve seen in the two official trailers, including a brief word from the director, but it still seems fresh and it definitely seems fun!

Things are flying at us so fast now that we’re only a little more than a month away from release, it’s hard to keep up with what we have seen and what we haven’t. As far as I’m concerned, I have no problem looking over everything with a Holmes-like intense scrutiny to make sure I don’t miss anything!

I fully expect by the time this gets posted, Warner Brothers will have dropped something else. It was just announced that the 2nd sequel (which would make it the 3rd in the franchise) is already in the works and a writer has been hired! Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey, Jr. have other things on their plates so who knows when it will actually get made. In the meantime, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens everywhere December 16.

The Men of AFI! – photos

The Men of AFI! - photos

Doesn’t that sound salacious? Like it belongs on a calendar full of cheesecake photos? Well, that’s not quite what we have here. The American Film Institute has been holding its annual AFI Festival and so there have been quite a few red carpets spread out upon which some very nice gentleman have stepped in the past few nights.

Leonardo Di Caprio, Armie Hammer (doesn’t he just look like he’d make the perfect Prince Charming? His movie now has a title, by the way. Tarsem Singh’s unnamed Snow White Project is now called Mirror, Mirror) as well as director Clint Eastwood all showed up for the premiere of J. Edgar.

Antonio Banderas appeared at the tribute to his friend and frequent director Pedro Almodovar. Not crazy about the haircut, but those eyes still get me.

Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane and Rob Lowe (who must have a slowly degrading portrait locked in his attic) turned up for a screening of I Melt With You. And Dominic Cooper represented the Y chromosomes for My Week with Marilyn.

Saving the best for last, we have Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor who brought the sexy to the stage and sat for a Q & A with director Steven Soderbergh and costar Gina Carrano after the “sneak” screening of Haywire. And then Ralph Fiennes (sadly sans Gerard Butler) showed them both what they have to look forward to in a few years, at the AFI screening of his directorial debut, Coriolanus. (Call me crazy but I love that he was having a bad hair day. Those eyes!)

Enjoy the pics!

New Images from Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson!

New Images from Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson!

Cosmopolis is the next film from A Dangerous Method director David Cronenberg. The latter isn’t even out yet and the former is already getting a lot of attention. Cosmopolis stars Robert Pattinson in his continuing quest to prove he can do more than sparkle and brood. It’s Cronenberg’s first film without Viggo Mortensen since 2002’s Spider (with Ralph Fiennes)

Cosmopolis, based on the 2003 novel by Don DeLillo, is the story of a young multi-billionaire named Eric Parker (Pattinson) who journeys across Manhattan in his luxurious, hi-tech stretch limo to get a haircut. The story covers roughly one day in Parker’s life, during which time he meets an odd assortment of characters played by Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel, Mathieu Amalric and Sarah Gadon (Emma Jung in A Dangerous Method), and losing his fortune along the way.

No specific release dates for Cosmopolis are yet known other than a vague 2012, but there is already whispering about Cannes in May. (Cronenberg likes Cannes. Watch the special features on the History of Violence dvd.)

First Look at Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages!

First Look at Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages!

Yes, that really is Tom Cruise as hair band veteran Stacee Jaxx in Adam Shenkman’s Rock of Ages. Most of the world did a collective head scratch and a “Hunh?” when it was announced that Cruise would take the lead in a musical, let alone one based on a hit Broadway show.  Rock of Ages is Shenkman’s adaptation of the 2006 Tony winner for Best Musical, which featured songs by bands like Bon Jovi, Styx, Journey and Pat Benatar.  Cruise gets to blast Def Leppard’s "Pour Some Sugar on Me", among other songs.

Shenkman, who managed to pull a good performance out of John Travolta in Hairspray, has complete confidence in his star and calls him a “natural”. Cruise, for his part, seems to have done it just for the challenge and an adrenaline rush comparable to climbing around on the outside of the Burj Khalifa, not to mention wanting to please his wife, Katie Holmes, who is a dancer. (Awwww). I’m willing to give Tommy-Boy the benefit of the doubt. Despite his status as one of the world’s biggest, most bankable movie stars, he doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously. Would anyone have thought he had Les Grossman in him?

The rest of the cast included Catherine Zeta Jones, Julianne Hough (as a small-town girl who arrives in Hollywood at the height of the 1980s rock-music scene), Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Will Forte and Mary J. Blige.

Rock of Ages rocks the house starting June 1 in the US and Canada and 29 June in the UK.

Watch: New Trailer for Goon, Eh?

Poster and Trailer for Goon!

I have to say, Michael Dowse's new hockey comedy, Goon, looks pretty funny. Maybe it's because I like hockey, especially the grand-daddy of hockey comedies, Slap Shot (with Paul Newman) and I even liked Mystery, Alaska (with Russell Crowe.) Mystery's not really in the same vein as Goon, but Slap Shot sure is.

The synopsis : "Goon is the story of Doug Glatt (Scott), a down-on-his-luck bouncer, who’s been touched by the fist of God. Upon discovering both his right hook and skates, he joins a hockey team destined for the cellar and inspires them into the playoffs."

Seann William Scott I can take or leave, but Kim Coates (who is so brilliant in "Sons of Anarchy") yelling at his players might be enough to get me into the theater. And I absolutely love that big ole daddy bear Liev Schreiber is the villain here.

JoBlo has new trailer, which is essentially just a longer version of the trailer we showed you a couple of months ago. More flying fists, but somehow a little less blood splatter. Just good dirty hockey fun.

Goon also stars Jay Baruschel, the wonderful Allison Pill and Eugene Levy. It opens February 2012
