This is our first of a regular run-down of what happened in the world of Celebrity for the week of January 14, 2012. We, of course begin with the most important news of the week: the coming of the Messiah.

Sienna Miller is pregnant and it's not Jude Law's baby. You have to admit they would have made a gorgeous baby. And it would have grown up to be very horny. Like them.

The Palm Springs Film Festival held their gala which is a little bit like an Oscar rehearsal!

Charlie Sheen announced he's not crazy any more. Spoken like a a true crazy person.

Michael Fassbender set my loins on fire.

Jimmy Fallon imitated Russell Brand and did so with precision as he always does.

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama split. He was never worthy of her and should be blamed for everything that goes wrong in her life.  Everything.

Tom Hardy proved he's not just a pretty face. Although he is a pretty face for sure.

Sarah McLachlan is releasing an album in 2012.

Speaking of Gerard Butler's hotness he and Ralph Fiennes screened Coriolanus in London. Oh, and a new clip for the film was released. Happy Dance.

We have a date that Hunger Games tickets go on sale.

Heather Locklear was hospitalized for a nasty combination of drugs and alcohol.

Lindsay Lohan may be playing Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime movie. Would I lie to you?

Katy Perry canceled her appearance at the People's Choice Awards.

The People's Choice Awards happened. And the red carpet was kind of meh except for Julianne Hough.

Rumors hit the interwebs that Olivier Martinez and Halle Berry got engaged.

Snoop Dogg was arrested for weed. The world shrugs their shoulders because it is hardly news or surprising, right?

Another awards season convention of the beautiful people took place last night as the National Board of Review held its annual Awards Gala in New York at Cipriani’s 42^nd Street.

George Clooney was there with girlfriend Stacy Keibler (in Marchesa). I don’t know why George thinks he needs to accessorize. Gorgeous George in a tux is all that is required, truly.

George picked up an award for best actor for The Descendents, and Shailene Woodley, in L'Wren Scott, took home Best Supporting Actress. Tilda Swinton, who can always be counted on to look edgy, funky and fun, wore Haider Ackerman and won Best Actress for We Need to Talk About Kevin.  Emma Stone (in J. Mendel), Octavia Spencer (who looked bored in David Meister), Jessica Chastain (who just got slighted by BAFTA. She didn’t make the short list for the Orange Rising Star Award. Mystifying. But she looked good in Zac Posen) , and Viola Davis (in Lauren by Ralph Lauren and whose haircut I love) picked up best ensemble film statues for The Help.  Best movie was Hugo. Best Director Martin Scorsese, Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz (adorable in a short red satin belted trench by Miu Miu) and Sir Ben Kingsley were all on hand. 

And of course, there was Fassy. He wasn’t at the VIP Screening for Shame last night in London because he was in New York to accept a Spotlight Award for the many films he starred in last year. (That’s nice. Sorry, as much as I love George Clooney, there’s no way anyone will convince me that his Matt King was a better performance than Fassbender’s Brandon Sullivan. Not for love nor money.  AMPAS will probably go with Clooney, who's a safer choice, too. That’s a discussion for another time.)

Also in attendance were Rooney Mara (also in Miu Miu), who must have had a night off before The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens in Pago Pago or wherever it’s going next, Keira Knightley in Nina Ricci and Carey Mulligan in Lanvin, there to support Fassy (they costarred in A Dangerous Method and Shame, respectively). Naomi Watts and Jeremy Irons, who looks terrific, were there to class up the joint. Alec Baldwin is obviously doing something right. He looks better than he has in a long time. The elder statesman award goes to Christopher Plummer, who also received the Best Supporting Actor award for Beginners.

Felicity Jones looked  both sultry and gothic in Dolce & Gabbana, but The Best Dressed of the Night Award goes to Helen Mirren who looked absolutely stunning and old-Hollywood glamorous in a black velvet Jacques Azagury, her platinum hair in a soft wavy bob. That’s how it’s done.

I have no idea who did George's tux or Fassy's suit. I'm just glad they put them on and showed up.

Warm-ups over, the party moves back to LA for Sunday’s Golden Globes. Here’s a list of the major winners at last night's Gala:

Debut Director: J.C. Chandor, Margin Call

Spotlight Award: Michael Fassbender, A Dangerous Method, Shame, X-Men: First Class
