New Pic Post: Snow White and the Huntsman, Men in Black III, Prometheus, The Avengers & Riddick

Not to be outdone by the new posters released for that other Snow White movie, two new images from Snow White and the Huntsman have been released by  Universal. A few days ago we showed you the international posters for Relativity’s Mirror Mirror, featuring Snow White and her Prince. Today we have a new look at Charlize Theron’s Evil Queen (as she contemplates what's in the mirror) and Sam Clafin as the Prince in Rupert Sanders’ much darker look at the classic tale.

New Pic Post: Snow White and the Huntsman, Men in Black III, Prometheus, The Avengers & Riddick

Here’s a new pic from Men in Black III. Will Smith and Josh Brolin (playing Tommy Lee Jones’ character K as a younger man) appear to be riding futuristic space bikes. The plot of the third film in the franchise involves Agent J (Smith) traveling in time to MIB's early years in the 1960s, to stop an alien from assassinating his friend Agent K and changing history.

Can’t wait to find out how the bikes, which appear to be from the future, figure into the trip back to the past. Unless J goes back to the past then tries to get back to his present and overshoots his mark and ends up in the future? Guess I’ll find out with the rest of the world when Men in Black III opens on May 25.

We have yet another image from Sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. This one featuring Logan Marshall Green (and yes, he does look like Tom Hardy…a little…around the eyes. Not the mouth though. No one has a mouth like Tom Hardy’s.)

All of the stills, with the exception of the one obviously inside a ship featuring Charlize Theron and Idris Elba, seem to be from the same sequence since LMG, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are all wearing the blue space suits.  I’m greedy and I want more! Prometheus is another one on my “must see” of 2012 list. It opens in the UK 1st June and the US on June 8.

Tom Hiddleston hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as the "real" cast of The Avengers, you know those playing actual superheroes, but here's a look at a glowering Loki, hinting at the mayhem this Norse mischief-maker is capable of.

The Avengers, in case you've been on an island with nought but a volleyball for company, hits theaters everywhere on 27th April in the UK and May 4 in the US.

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the multi-plex, Vin Diesel is coming back with another installment in the Riddick franchise. I wasn’t aware that the world needed another Vin Diesel vehicle of any kind but apparently we’re getting one. It’s currently the Untitled Chronicles of Riddick Sequel (which may or may not include the phrase Dead Man Stalking) and is now in production in Montreal for  a 2013 release.

Universal has given us the following official synopsis:

The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel. Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Riddick also sees the return of Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Bourne Supremacy) as Vaako and introduces to the series Jordi Molla (Bad Boys II, Colombiana) as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (Killer Elite) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff (TV’s Battlestar Galactica) as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (upcoming Total Recall) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (TV’s Aliens in America) and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson.

We have a few first images from the set. Enjoy!

Three New Looks at Snow White and the Huntsman!

Three New Looks at Snow White and the Huntsman!

Universal has released two new images from Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman, to add to the one they dropped at the end of last week (and I hadn’t gotten around to posting yet). We have a new look at Kristen Stewart looking more like the “fairest of them all” as well as the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron) decked out in black feathers (probably right before she turns herself into a black swan or maybe a crow). Then there’s Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman along with all eight of the dwarves. You heard me. This is not Disney’s Snow White.

By the way, did you know that Charlize Theron appeared as a guest judge on this season's Top Chef on Bravo and it was specifically to promote this movie? File that under “Things that make you go ‘huh’". You can watch the episode at the link. Snow White And The Huntsman lands on June 1st. I’m sure we’ll have more goodies soon.

Michael Fassbender Tends Bar, Does Tarantino Impression for Newsweek Roundtable

Michael Fassbender Tends Bar, Does Tarantino Impression for Newsweek Roundtable-

Newsweek Magazine has been hosting an “Oscar Roundtable” every year since 1998, in which they invite several of the year’s Oscar contenders to sit down for a relaxed, candid chat. The results can usually be counted on to be highly entertaining.

This year they asked Charlize Theron (Young Adult), Viola Davis (The Help), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin), Christopher Plummer (Beginners), Michael Fassbender (Shame) and George Clooney (The Descendants)…and Uggie! *As of this writing, they are all still just 'possibles'. I'm wagering that by the time this is published, they'll all be actual nominees*

These clips are riveting, chock full of insights into these talented actors, their processes as artists, and what they’re like as people, which let’s face it is what we all want to know.

For today’s daily dose of Michael Fassbender, he gets to talk about peeing on camera:

Viola Davis explains that she was ‘terrified of Meryl Streep’ and why she “wrote a 50-page biography to play the mother of a Catholic schoolboy in Doubt…But Michael Fassbender reveals that he did the same thing, when he played Magneto in X-Men: First Class. The actors talk about other ways they find their characters—and the pitfalls of “doing things” that make a performance seem artificial.”

This one starts of with Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender discussing his use of a South African accent during filming for Ridley Scott's Prometheus. It segues into Theron doing a bit of her Kristin Wiig (that apparently everyone else got a lot more of as Fassy was making everyone Bloody Marys) as well as a bit of her native Afrikaans before they coax Fassy into doing his Tarantino impression:For the rest of the clips (which are all worth seeing), follow the link.

*Edit: Obviously I missed the mark. 3 of the 6 did get nominations while the other 3 did not. As you might imagine, the omission that I'm most annoyed by is Michael Fassbender's.

Profusion of Pics, Part One!

Profusion of Pics, Part One!

I have got treats, lots and lots of treats, that I’ve been hoarding storing up for a rainy day…actually just haven’t been able to get to) Well, today’s the day. In this post I have new pics for Men in Black III, Prometheus, Lovelace, Snow White and the Huntsman and The Hunger Games

Profusion of Pics, Part One!

Men in Black III: “Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.”

We also offer a first look at villain, Boris, played by Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clement. The movie opens almost everywhere in the known universe on May 25.

Profusion of Pics, Part One!

Here’s are two new images from Sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, which leads them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. The pics show Noomi Rapace (who has described her character, Elizabeth Shaw, as the “Ripley” of the piece) in more detail as well as the “space jockeys” in the background.

Prometheus takes over theaters on 1st June in the UK and June 8 in the US and Canada.

Profusion of Pics, Part One!

We have a first look at Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace in the biopic, Lovelace, about the porn star and her relationship with her abusive husband, Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard). James Franco plays Hugh Hefner. Lovelace has no set release date yet. More info to follow.

Profusion of Pics, Part One!

Charlize Theron looks appropriately regal and menacing in this new still from Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. The darker version of the two Snow White tales, starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, opens June 1 almost everywhere.

Profusion of Pics, Part One!

Last, but not least, for this round are two new pics from The Hunger Games. We get new looks at Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson), Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match. The Hunger Games begin on March 23 in the US, Canada and the UK.

More to come!

More Fantastical Images from Snow White and the Huntsman!

More Fantastical Images from Snow White and the Huntsman!

We have more new images from first time helmer Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. This is the one from Universal that stars Kristen Stewart as Snow, Chris Hemsworth as Eric, the Huntsman, Sam Claflin as Prince William, Noah Huntley as King Magnus and Charlize Theron (who passed on J. Edgar to do this-beauty and brains) as Ravenna, the Evil Queen. From a script co-written by the suddenly hot Hossein Amini (Drive47 Ronin),the synopsis for this version: In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Hemsworth) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power.

Producer Joe Roth has already compared his film to The Lord of the Rings in terms of its epic scope. This is also the one with the kick-ass dwarves. All seven used to be named for Roman Emperors, but the names have since been changed: Caesar/Beith (Ian McShane), Tiberius/Neion (Nick Frost), Constantine/Muir (Bob Hoskins), Claudius/Coll (Toby Jones), Hadrian/Duir (Eddie Marsan),and Trajan/Gort (Ray Winstone-for some reason Ray Winstone playing someone named ‘Gort’ cracks me up), Stephen Graham was playing Nero but dropped out. I can’t figure out who replaced him.

Before Stewart was cast as Snow, nearly every ingénue in Hollywood tested for the role, including Lily Collins, who ended up being cast in Mirror, Mirror, the competing Snow White film. Before Hemsworth won the role of the Huntsman, it had been widely assumed that it would go to Viggo Mortensen. When talks broke down with him, Johnny Depp, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy were all approached.

Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1 everywhere.

First Trailer for Prometheus is Here! No Really…This is Not a Drill!

First Trailer for Prometheus is Here! No Really...This is Not a Drill!

Well, it’s finally here: the first official trailer for Sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.Yay! *demented poodle dance* Okay, okay, settle down.  After all of the hype, it’s kind of anti-climactic. Seems to me that if you strung together all of the pre-trailer teasers that had been unleashed all week, you’d have this trailer, which means, there’s not a lot new to see here. There are eerie images of spacesuit clad people running through a rocky landscape of what is probably a distant planet but still somehow looks like earth, with a strobe light-like effect set to a pulsating soundtrack. Don’t misunderstand, I like it!

On the surface of the thing, even though he’s been coy about saying whether or not it’s an out and out prequel, it would seem that Sir Ridley is using the title Prometheus and the way it emerges onto the screen in this trailer to allude to his 1979 sci-fi masterpiece, Alien.  Most of the imagery certainly looks like it wants to be a part of that film. Of course, technology is now light-years ahead of where it was then. The film he’s made in 2011 is probably closer to the one he wanted to make in 1979. If nothing else, it looks intense.

According to Greek mythology, Prometheus was a Titan who stole fire from Olympus to give to mankind and in punishment was chained to a rock, where an eagle tore at his liver until Hercules freed him.  It seems that Scott is using the title of his film as a metaphor and whomever these people are (scientists of some sort) running around on that planet, they are using technology to discover the roots of life itself. Considering we know where this is supposedly supposed to lead, I’m guessing with disastrous consequences.

I’m still very intrigued by that new image from the film that was released yesterday, of Michael Fassbender’s android called David.  That looks like a “WTF?” face to me.  Whatever’s out there, I’m sure it’s going to terrify the bejeebus out of everyone in the film and probably everyone watching it too. I can’t wait!

Prometheus stars Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce and Rafe Spall. It comes to theaters in the UK on 1st June and the US on June 8.
