Even MORE New Images from Snow White and the Huntsman!

Even MORE New Images from Snow White and the Huntsman!

We have a few  more new images from Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman to share, including a crisper version of the shot of Snow and the infamous apple (good thing she's only 'mostly dead'), as well as a few behind-the-scenes of director Sanders and his stars, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. We also get another look at Sam Claflin as the Prince.

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her.  But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) dispatched to kill her.  Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Snow White and the Huntsman also starring Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, Bob Hoskins and Eddie Marsan (as six of the seven dwarves, assuming, of course, that there are seven). It opens June 1 in the US, Canada and the UK.

New Pics for Dark Shadows, Snow White and the Huntsman and a First Look at Dredd

New Pics for Dark Shadows, Snow White and the Huntsman and a First Look at Dredd

We have a new pic from Tim Burton’s big screen adaptation of 60’s gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows. We get another look at Johnny Depp as vampire Barnabas Collins, this time with Eva Green’s witch, Angelique.

As a fan of the original television show as well as the 90’s remake with Ben Cross, I’m really looking forward to this. I expect creepy and atmospheric from Burton, maybe even campy, but I’m not really expecting ‘dark’. We’ll see.  The cast is certainly capable of going either way.  It includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Chloe Moretz, Jonny Lee Miller, Jackie Earle Haley and Christopher Lee.

Dark Shadows opens May 11 in the US and the UK.

New Pics for Dark Shadows, Snow White and the Huntsman and a First Look at Dredd

Here are two new pics from Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman, with Kristen Stewart as Snow and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman.  In one, we have Snow in full armor in attack mode and in the other, Huntsman Hemsworth would seem to be protecting Snow and she appears a tad vexed about it. This is a different take on the Snow White fable. Unlike Tarsem Singh’s candy colored confection Mirror Mirror, Sanders’ version of Snow White is just as tough as the boys and with the Huntsman’s guidance goes into battle to vanquish the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron).  Snow White and the Huntsman opens everywhere June 1.

In other Snow White news: Disney just announced it is proceeding with The Order of the Seven with Saorise Ronan, it’s own version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. In it, the dwarves are warriors from all over the world and Snow has become Olivia Sinclair (Ronan).

“The seven are a 19th century-set disparate band of international warriors belonging to a centuries-old order who have lost their way. Their meeting with an Englishwoman being chased by an ancient evil is the catalyst for their redemption. While the project is set in China, the warriors will be from locales near (the U.S.) and far (Russia), and each warrior will have a unique fighting style”

New Pics for Dark Shadows, Snow White and the Huntsman and a First Look at Dredd

Here is your first look at the new sci-fi action adventure a version of of Judge Dredd simply titled, Dredd. I have hope for this for a few reasons. Chief among them, Sylvester Stallone has been replaced by Karl Urban.  (Not that we’ll see him. He’s confirmed that true to the original comic book character, his helmet will stay put throughout the film.)

The director is Pete Travis, for whom I have a lot of respect. Travis is responsible for two of my favorite Brit miniseries, The Jury (with Gerard Butler, Derek Jacoby, Mark Strong) from 2002 and Henry VIII (with Ray Winstone, Mark Strong, Helena Bonham Carter)from 2004 as well as feature films 2008’s Vantage Point (Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker – massive all-star cast) and 2009’s Endgame (Mark Strong and Chiwetel Ejiofor).  The script is by Alex Garland who was responsible for the screenplays for Never Let Me Go, Sunshine, 28 Days Later (’07) and The Beach.  That’s some serious chops involved here.

The basic plot: In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

Dredd also stars Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby and Domhnall Gleeson. It opens September 21 in the US and the UK.

Beautiful BAFTA Red Carpet Pics + Complete List of Winners!

Beautiful BAFTA Red Carpet Pics + Complete List of Winners!

Well, it’s all over but the shouting.  (You think I'm kidding, the crowds were insane!) The winners have been declared for the Orange British Academy Film Awards for 2012 held tonight February 12 at the Royal Opera House in London.  Miss Piggy was a lovely and gracious hostess  and a welcome addition to the regular red-carpet personalities like Edith Bowman and  Fearne Cotton. Jon Hamm showed up just to class up the joint, as did presenter Penelope Cruz.

Sir Tom Jones kicked things off with a musical homage to 50 years of James Bond. It was a little difficult to discern the words, but he's still got the voice. Host Stephen Fry, was, as always witty, charming and erudite.

You’ll find the complete list below, but in case you haven’t heard yet, The Artist swept almost every category for which it was nominated. That’s not really all that surprising and it does pretty much seal the deal for the Oscars in two weeks time. If Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and its star Gary Oldman were going to pull any upsets, this would have been the place for that very British film to do it.  TTSS did win Best Adapted Screenplay (which was deserved. I thought it would. The writers are British, of course, but one of the cowriters, Peter Straughan’s wife Bridget O’Connor, died before seeing it produced) as well as Best British Film.

So, needless to say, Oldman and Michael Fassbender were denied and Jean Dujardin is going home with the golden mask. (Although I would have liked to have seen Fassy get it, I thought surely the British Academy would see fit to reward Oldman. I do think, however, that Dujardin’s win puts the nail in Clooney’s Oscar coffin.)  George did show up of course, just in case. As did Brad Pitt. George was flying solo and Brad was sans Ange. He must have left her in Berlin. Love the pic of George and Colin Firth sharing a bro-hug. And only the beautiful Livia Firth could get away with that manly tux on the red carpet.

Ralph Fiennes (Coriolanus) was denied in favor of another first-time actor turned director Paddy Considine who was awarded the Best Debut by a British Director, Writer or Prducer prize for Tyrannosaur.  Ralph looked fantastic though and we all know that’s more important.

Meryl Streep glammed it up and put on the ritz as if she expected to win. Everyone predicted it was in the bag for her in Blighty and they were right.  (There were ads for The Iron Lady during the BBCAmerica telecast of the BAFTAs that emphasize the fact that it's been 29 years since she won an Oscar. Heavy-handed in my opinion.) Viola Davis lost out, but her costar Octavia Spencer continued her run and won Best Supporting Actress for The Help. (Who were those guys Spencer had with her? They look like bodyguards.) Poor Michelle Williams who seemed a front-runner at one point, has all but been forgotten. She looked good though.

Kenneth Branagh lost out to Christopher Plummer, but I’m just glad he showed up (Plummer didn't). I can’t get enough of him. He’s still as adorable as he was in Henry V. (And can I just say that I freakin’ LOVE that his wife isn’t some waifish trophy?)  Although, I do have to say Gary Oldman always looks like someone just handed him the keys to the kingdom whenever you see him with his arm around wife no. 4, Alexandra Edenborough.

One category that was a surprise: the Orange Rising Star Award. Last year it was won by Tom Hardy, and in the five years before that it was won by the likes of Kristen Stewart, Noel Clarke, Shia Labeouf, Eva Green and James McAvoy. This year the nominees were Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman) who showed up with his gorgeous pregnant bride, Elsa Pataky, Eddie Redmayne, (My Week with Marilyn, Pillars of the Earth, Les Miserables), Tom Hiddleston (Thor, The Avengers, Deep Blue Sea, War Horse, Midnight in Paris), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids for which he won an IFTA the night before, The Boat That Rocked, Friends with Kids) and Adam Deacon (Kidulthood, Adulthood). Guess who won? That’s right, the actor you’ve never heard of. I guess the other four don’t need a leg up, at least according to UK cinema-goers, who vote for the award. Deacon couldn't believe it either, calling it "surreal" before saying "Fank you".  Actually Adam Deacon appeared in a movie ten years ago with Gerard Butler. Deacon was in Shooters when he was just 16. I guess that’s a reason to watch it again. *coughlikeIneedonecough*

Martin Scorsese was given the British Academy Fellowship Award, sort of a 'lifetime achievement' award, presented to him by Max von Sydow. It was an oddly introduced tribute with only two taped testimonials, one by Robert De Niro and another by Christopher Lee (who appeared in Hugo this year). I guess  they couldn't given him this one and Best Director, so that went to Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist. (By the way, how does a movie with no dialogue win Best Original Screenplay?)

Some exciting news was leaked on the red carpet as well. Bond girls Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe, who both looked stunning, were in attendance and Harris revealed that Skyfall would include “a lot” of Daniel Craig nakedness. You read that right. She said “nakedness”.  Now, while I don’t expect Craig to go all ‘Fassbender’, another slow climb out of the sea, dripping wet in those tight blue trunks would be appreciated. Just sayin’.

The biggest surprise of the night, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe showed up to hand out the BAFTA for Best Picture…The Artist. (Since it was a suprise they didn't walk the red carpet. It would have exploded from the hotness.)

So here’s your complete list of winners as well as a lot of pretty pics of the pretty people.  Meet you back here in two weeks for the Oscars!

Three New Looks at Snow White and the Huntsman!

Three New Looks at Snow White and the Huntsman!

Universal has released two new images from Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman, to add to the one they dropped at the end of last week (and I hadn’t gotten around to posting yet). We have a new look at Kristen Stewart looking more like the “fairest of them all” as well as the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron) decked out in black feathers (probably right before she turns herself into a black swan or maybe a crow). Then there’s Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman along with all eight of the dwarves. You heard me. This is not Disney’s Snow White.

By the way, did you know that Charlize Theron appeared as a guest judge on this season's Top Chef on Bravo and it was specifically to promote this movie? File that under “Things that make you go ‘huh’". You can watch the episode at the link. Snow White And The Huntsman lands on June 1st. I’m sure we’ll have more goodies soon.

Marvelous Marvel News and Hi-Res Stills from The Avengers!

Marvelous Marvel News and Hi-Res Stills from The Avengers!

Marvel Studios has delivered some news about its upcoming slate.  Following on the heels of this year’s The Avengers, they have on deck Iron Man 3 with a  May 3, 2013 release date, as well as Thor 2 on November 15, 2013. Signs are pointing toward Captain America 2 in early 2014, but nothing’s been confirmed yet.

I know it seems like it’s been ages since we got any The Avengers goodies from Marvel, but today we have (thanks to ComicBookMovie) five hi-res official stills, including Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury, up close and personal.  (That is some vicious looking scar.)

From Marvel’s press release:

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012.

More Fantastical Images from Snow White and the Huntsman!

More Fantastical Images from Snow White and the Huntsman!

We have more new images from first time helmer Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. This is the one from Universal that stars Kristen Stewart as Snow, Chris Hemsworth as Eric, the Huntsman, Sam Claflin as Prince William, Noah Huntley as King Magnus and Charlize Theron (who passed on J. Edgar to do this-beauty and brains) as Ravenna, the Evil Queen. From a script co-written by the suddenly hot Hossein Amini (Drive47 Ronin),the synopsis for this version: In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Hemsworth) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power.

Producer Joe Roth has already compared his film to The Lord of the Rings in terms of its epic scope. This is also the one with the kick-ass dwarves. All seven used to be named for Roman Emperors, but the names have since been changed: Caesar/Beith (Ian McShane), Tiberius/Neion (Nick Frost), Constantine/Muir (Bob Hoskins), Claudius/Coll (Toby Jones), Hadrian/Duir (Eddie Marsan),and Trajan/Gort (Ray Winstone-for some reason Ray Winstone playing someone named ‘Gort’ cracks me up), Stephen Graham was playing Nero but dropped out. I can’t figure out who replaced him.

Before Stewart was cast as Snow, nearly every ingénue in Hollywood tested for the role, including Lily Collins, who ended up being cast in Mirror, Mirror, the competing Snow White film. Before Hemsworth won the role of the Huntsman, it had been widely assumed that it would go to Viggo Mortensen. When talks broke down with him, Johnny Depp, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy were all approached.

Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1 everywhere.
