The Men of AFI! – photos

The Men of AFI! - photos

Doesn’t that sound salacious? Like it belongs on a calendar full of cheesecake photos? Well, that’s not quite what we have here. The American Film Institute has been holding its annual AFI Festival and so there have been quite a few red carpets spread out upon which some very nice gentleman have stepped in the past few nights.

Leonardo Di Caprio, Armie Hammer (doesn’t he just look like he’d make the perfect Prince Charming? His movie now has a title, by the way. Tarsem Singh’s unnamed Snow White Project is now called Mirror, Mirror) as well as director Clint Eastwood all showed up for the premiere of J. Edgar.

Antonio Banderas appeared at the tribute to his friend and frequent director Pedro Almodovar. Not crazy about the haircut, but those eyes still get me.

Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane and Rob Lowe (who must have a slowly degrading portrait locked in his attic) turned up for a screening of I Melt With You. And Dominic Cooper represented the Y chromosomes for My Week with Marilyn.

Saving the best for last, we have Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor who brought the sexy to the stage and sat for a Q & A with director Steven Soderbergh and costar Gina Carrano after the “sneak” screening of Haywire. And then Ralph Fiennes (sadly sans Gerard Butler) showed them both what they have to look forward to in a few years, at the AFI screening of his directorial debut, Coriolanus. (Call me crazy but I love that he was having a bad hair day. Those eyes!)

Enjoy the pics!

New Stills for Eastwood’s J. Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio!

New Stills for Eastwood's J. Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio!

There are a lot of new pics available for Clint Eastwood’s new baby, J. Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the original head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. J. Edgar Hoover was the symbol of American law enforcement for nearly 50 years and assembled a cohesive, cooperative federal enforcement agency that advanced the use of forensic evidence, especially fingerprints. He was also hated as much as he was admired. His  now legendary abuses of power include the manipulation and blackmail of elected officials, wiretapping and the intimidation of civil rights leaders.  But, "…behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life." J. Edgar tells the story of this dichotomy.

Also in the cast are Dame Judi Dench as Hoover's mother Anne Marie, Armie Hammer as Clyde Tolson, Hoover's friend, ally, constant companion and perhaps lover (the movie is leaving it open to interpretation), Josh Lucas as Charles Lindbergh, Naomie Watts as Helen Gandy (seen in the pics at various stages of her fifty-four years as Hoover's trusted secretary) and  Jeffrey "Burn Notice" Donovan as Robert F. Kennedy. (And is it me or does it look like Hoover is arresting Conan O'Brien in one of the pics? It's actually Damon Herriman as Dewey Crowe… Bruno Hauptmann)

Written by Dustin Lance Black (Milk, "Big Love"), J. Edgar will open in the US and Canada on November 11.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood Film 'J. Edgar'

Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood are on the set of Clint’s latest film J. Edgar in Los Angeles. Leonardo plays the lead role in this biopic on:

FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, focusing on his scandalous career and controversial private life as a homosexual and rumored cross dresser.

With J. Edgar Hoover holding the position from 1935 – 1972 it is unknown how many decades the movie will cover.

The film also stars Armie Hammer (who plays his rumoured lover Clyde Tolson), Naomi Watts (who plays his secretary Helen Grady), Josh Lucas (aviator Charles Lindbergh) , Ed Westwick, Dame Judi Dench (Anne Marie Hoover) and Ken Howard.

Maybe this could finally be the film that Leonardo wins an Oscar for. I’d say it’s long overdue.

Matt Damon Can’t Believe He’s 40 With 4 Kids

Matt Damon is doing the promo rounds for his latest film Hereafter in which he plays a psychic.  He talked to the Chicago Sun Times about how shocked he is that he’s 40:

I wish it was a misprint. I’m more than puzzled by it,” “I don’t feel like 40, but then again I’ve been working consistently for 15 years. “And I have four kids! How did all this happen?

And speaking of kids the latest pregnancy wasn’t exactly planned:

“First of all, we weren’t planning another one. Once we got over the initial shock, we got into the pregnancy groove again,” he says. “But I can tell you that the great thing about living in New York City is you can order anything online at any hour of the day. Whatever she is craving, they deliver.”

“I don’t get a lot of time in the bathroom, but that’s okay,” he says. “I’m surrounded by beautiful girls. I’m a lucky guy.”

Matt’s film Hereafter, opens in theatres this Friday and then his next movie will be one in which he stars in a Coen brothers film:

“I look at a year like this one for me and have to pause for a moment and take it all in,” “It reminds me of what I said when Ben and I won an Oscar for ‘Good Will Hunting.’ I still think that I’m the guy who won the lottery.

If you think about it, that is pretty cool that after all this time, and all the money he’s made in films that he is still in awe of it and remains so unassuming.

He talks about his love for Clint Eastwood (he totally has a huge man crush on Clint) and what it was like to be on a movie set with the legend:

“I would do anything with Clint,”  “He’s so relaxed and confident on a set. You walk on some film sets and it’s like walking into an emergency room and you’re like, ‘We’re just making a movie here.’ That tension bleeds into the performances and into the film itself. Clint just runs an incredibly tight ship. It’s very laid back but everybody is given enough space to do everything they need to do.”

“Occasionally he will come over and give a little bit of direction,”  “But it’s not a lot of chatter. It’s just a suggestion — a little suggestion here, a little suggestion there. Anybody who doesn’t want to hear a swear word should cover their ears for a second.

“Clint’s favorite saying after you do a take is: ‘Well, let’s move on and let’s not f— this up by thinking about it too much.’ You hear it every day on the set.”

Ha! I love that. Thinking too much does screw stuff up. Today, I will think as little as I can :D
