Above is the first one-sheet poster for Len Wiseman’s Total Recall, due to get its first trailer this weekend. And below we have a simple, yet very cool motion poster as well.
The film’s synopsis once again:
Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.
Total Recall, starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, Bill Nighy, Ethan Hawke, John Cho and Bokeem Woodbine, opens August 3 in the US and 22nd August in the UK

We have yet another teaser for a trailer, this one for Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall. At this point I’m torn between continuing to support this growing trend, not because I can’t be bothered to bring you the latest and greatest, but because depending on the film involved, it just builds hype to unreasonable levels, in my opinion. And let’s face it, every time a studio throws together a teaser for a trailer they are about to roll out anyway (in the case of Total Recall, it’ll be this coming Sunday), I feel just a little bit duped.
However, having said all that, in the case of this particular film, we’ve had so little in terms of peeks behind the curtain or even studio sanctioned promotion, so I’m posting it. Frankly, the thirty three seconds of this teaser kick more ass than the entire movie did the first time around. (But that’s more a testament to the current state of the art of special effects than any fault of Paul Verhoeven or the original filmmakers. This one was RIPE for a remake.)
Starring Colin Farrell (a strange choice to replace Arnie on the face of it, but I like it), this version, with a script by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man), Kurt Wimmer (Law Abiding Citizen) & Mark Bomback (Unstoppable) is said to be more true to Philip K. Dick's original short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale”, than Verhoeven's from 1990.

Colin Farrell is joining the Stand Up! Don’t Stand for Homophobic Bullying campaign by Ireland's BeLonG To organization by speaking up and sharing his thoughts on anti-gay discrimination and bullying because he watched his own brother Eamon be tormented in school:
"If there was one great wish I have for my country – for a land that I love and a people I so revere, it would be that school bullying were a thing of our past.
So much has befallen us in our shared history as a people. The harshest of these times have threatened to take our dignity, or scald our hearts into closing.
“Most of our great trials, from soiled land to the institutionalized abuse of trust and power, were inflicted upon us, whether by nature or the power corrupt. Now with bullying, there is a clear choice and the choice is ours.
“Each individual, as a member of his and her community, must Stand Up! In the face of this appalling brutality that plagues our schools. In effect, bullying is no less than the systematic doling out of pain upon the innocent. It is literally laughing in the face of somebody as they fall into increasingly grave danger. It's not my place to draw parallels, but we have had enough of such hardships. The world has.
“Whether it be the attacking of Gay students, which I witnessed first hand happening to my own brother, or students who are in the minority as a result of race or religious beliefs or any other such characteristic that separates them from 'the norm', it is all wrong and has no place in a just and compassionate country such as I know Ireland to be. We have always been praised as being the friendliest and most welcoming race in the world. My wish is for us to prove it daily, in the school yards and playgrounds across this Great Land of Ours."
What a beautiful statement! Colin and his brother have been part of this cause for many years as Eamon was violently bullied in school. What a horrifying thing for a child to go through and for their family to watch. Let's all Stand Up to end this!

This week has really got something for everyone! J. Edgar, director Clint Eastwood’s biopic of the longtime head of the FBI, Tower Heist with Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, much talked about indie Martha Marcy May Marlene and my person pick of the week, London Boulevard.
Let’s start there, shall we? London Boulevard is a British gangster flick, the idea of which right off the bat we know is gonna make my socks roll up and down. It’s also the directorial debut of screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) and based on a novel by one of my favorite writers, Ken Bruen. The best way to describe Bruen is to say he’s the Irish James Ellroy. (If that means nothing to you, chances are Bruen isn’t gonna be your cuppa anyway.) The tagline is “Not every criminal wants to be one.” To further illustrate the point, think of Al Pacino in Godfather III, “Every time I think I’m out…they pull me back in!”
The movie stars Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley and Anna Friel. While I was, at one time, skeptical about the fact that a couple of the characters had been combined and Knightley’s was much younger than she was in the book, I saw the thing and I liked it. A lot. The supporting cast includes (the always excellent) Ray Winstone, Ben Chaplin, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Graham, Jamie Campbell-Bower and David Thewlis (I still can’t believe he and Friel aren’t together anymore. I guess there won’t be any more collaborations either). The music is by Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzone (he even used “Clubfoot” for what else, a club scene and “Green Fairy” is used as sort of Keira Knightley’s Charlotte’s theme.)
Here’s a look at a behind-the-scenes featurette from the dvd extras (courtesy of MovieWeb), actually it’s the only extra:
J. Edgar was supposed to finally earn Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar. I’m pretty sure that’s why he made this movie. I have no idea what Clint Eastwood’s excuse is. A biopic, in my opinion, should shed some light on its subject, but there was so much of Hoover’s life that is unknowable to us now. Anyone who was there is gone and he left behind virtually nothing in terms of writings or papers that weren’t already a matter of public record. And it seems even that was subject to Hoover’s interpretation. DiCaprio does his best behind layers of prosthetic makeup and it is a valiant performance, but he’s been better. His Howard Hughs in The Aviator was a more gripping portrait of an infamous character and did actually illuminate the myth to a degree. (They both suffer from “It’s all Mommy’s fault” syndrome.) Armie Hammer was good enough as Clyde Tolson and there is a parade of well known actors impersonating well known figures from recent history.
It’s not a bad movie. There’s too much talent involved here for that to be entirely true. It’s worth a look on dvd or VOD…or you could wait for cable.
J. Edgar also stars Naomi Watts, Dame Judi Dench, Dermot Mulroney, Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Donovan, Stephen Root and Josh Lucas. The Blu-ray/DVD Combo includes instant streaming of the film with UltraViolet Digital Copy
On the Blu-ray:
-Featurette: “J Edgar: The Most Powerful Man in the World”, about the man and the film behind the man.
On the DVD:
-Featurette: “J. Edgar- A Complicated Man”, more background of the controversial FBI director.
Martha Marcy May Marlene is a powerful psychological drama with star-making performance by Elizabeth Olsen (younger sister of the ubiquitous twins) as Martha, a young woman rapidly unraveling amidst her attempt to reclaim a normal life after fleeing from a cult and its charismatic leader (John Hawkes). Seeking help from her estranged older sister Lucy (Sarah Paulson) and brother-in-law (Hugh Dancy), Martha is unable and unwilling to reveal the truth about her disappearance. When her memories trigger a chilling paranoia that her former cult could still be pursuing her, the line between Martha’s reality and delusion begins to blur.
Martha Marcy May Marlene also stars Brady Corbet, Christopher Abbott and Maria Dizzia. The dvd/blu-ray special features include “Mary Last Seen,” the chilling short film by writer/director Sean Durkin that started it all.
Last but not least is Tower Heist from beleaguered director Brett Ratner and starring Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller and a terrific ensemble cast that includes Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck, Michael Pena, Gabourey Sidibe, Tea Leoni and Alan Alda.
Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) manages a super-high-tech high-rise in the middle of Manhattan, catering to every need of the tower's residents, including financier Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda). When Shaw gets arrested by the FBI, Kovacs realizes that his staff's pensions, which he asked Shaw to invest, are lost, and when it looks like Shaw is going to get away with it, Kovacs pulls together a mismatched team (Broderick, Affleck, Peña, Sidibe, and Murphy) to steal the secret stash of cash that the FBI suspects Shaw must have. Tower Heist successfully tweaks all the character clichés just enough so that they are a smooth blend of the familiar and the unexpected. The plot zips along with purring efficiency, alternating predictable turns with surprising ones just enough to keep the pattern-seeking parts of the viewer's brain hooked. The cast–which also includes Téa Leoni as the lead FBI agent–charms without overdoing it. In essence, director Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand and the Rush Hour series) has honed all of his sloppier tendencies and crafted a skillful piece of mass entertainment. Afterward, the movie's plot holes and defiance of the laws of physics may irritate, but while it's unfolding, Tower Heist is a smooth ride.

Back in December we told you about writer/director Martin McDonagh's (In Bruge) new action-comedy Seven Psychopaths, starring Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Tom Waits and Olga Kurylenko, with a few pics from the set. Today, thanks to Entertainment Weekly (by way of ComingSoon), we have the first official stills from the film.
Farrell plays as a struggling screenwriter who inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends, a out of work actor (Rockwell) and a thief who steals dogs to ransom back to their owners (Walken), kidnap a gangster's (Harrelson) beloved Shih Tzu, Bonny. In McDonagh’s hands, I can just imagine the black comic hijinks that will ensue. As I said before, the only thing that could make this better would be if Brendan Gleeson was playing one of those characters.
Seven Psychopaths is expected to hit theaters this fall. I will be first in line. More on this as we get it.

Here’s a first look at Colin Farrell on the set of Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths. Right off the bat, that’s a very intriguing title. Add to that, it’s directed by McDonagh, the mastermind behind one of my favorite films of the last decade, In Bruges, and includes that film’s leading man, Farrell (If you haven’t seen that brilliant first feature from a writer/director who will surely become one of the most important of the next ten years, do it now. You can thank me later.) and costars an incomparable cadre of indie actors (some of them so good you have to wonder why they haven’t been brought together before) including Woody Harrelson (whose role was set to be played by Mickey Rourke until he had problems with McDonagh), Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken, Abbie Cornish, Kevin Corrigan, Zeljko Ivanek, Tom Waits, Gaboury Sidibe, Olga Kurylenko and Brendan Sexton III. Before I even know the plot, you couldn’t pay me not to see this. So what is the plot?
A screenwriter (Farrell) struggles to find the handle on his script called Seven Psychopaths. He then gets drawn into the dog-napping escapades of his friends (Rockwell and Walken). Once the beloved Shih Tzu owned by a psychopathic gangster (Harrelson) goes missing, the screenwriter finds himself fuelled with all the drama he needs for his screenplay, if he can stay alive long enough to write it all down.
Frankly, the only thing that could make me happier about any of this is if Brendan Gleason were also involved (maybe a Ralph Fiennes cameo?). Oh well, you can’t have everything.
Who doesn’t need a little Colin Farrell to close out the old year and ring in the new? Look, he even brought his own bottle! Enjoy the pics from the set of Seven Psychopaths (courtesy of Film-O-Filia by way of HeyUGuys). More on this one (like a definite release date) as we get it.
London Boulevard is the directorial debut of screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) and based on a novel by Ken Bruen. It's the story of a man newly released from prison (Colin Farrell) who falls in love with a reclusive young movie star (Keira Knightley) and finds himself in a duel with a vicious gangster (the incomparable Ray Winstone). Aside from the fact that Knightley's character was written as an older woman, they did a pretty good job of adapting the book. Take a look.
If you like Brit gangster flicks, and I love them, then you'll enjoy this. It's had a rough time getting US distribution but IFC Films has finally picked it up. It's actually playing on VOD right now (which is where I saw it last weekend. I've been waiting for this for ages!), but it will get a theatrical release starting November 11. London Boulevard also stars Eddie Marsan, Ben Chaplin and Anna Friel.

Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel are still in downtown Toronto filming scenes for Total Recall. Colin is in a futuristic vehicle that looks to have sustained a bit of damage which I apologized a thousand times for I just wanted a pretty picture of Colin . The film is being directed by Kate Beckinsale's uber-cute husband Len Wiseman and he's given the wife a starring role in it as well (Lori).
In the film Colin plays Doug Quaid/Hauser and Jessica plays Melina. So far we haven't seen any outlandish costumes in the on-set pics that we've posted, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. You've got to love the futuristic vehicles though, right? I wonder what else will wow us when the film comes out.
The film is scheduled for its American and Canadian release on August 3, 2012.
