Meet Harris, Hubert and Hamish in This Featurette for Brave!

Colorful New Character Posters for Brave!

We have an adorable new featurette from Brave, one of my most anticipated summer movies. This clip introduces us to those three flame-haired imps, collectively known as “the triplets”. We learn that they (of course) have names, Harris, Hubert and Hamish, specifically. They don’t say much (or anything at all) but they giggle a lot as they come up with new ways to get their beloved sugary treats.

The featurette comes courtesy of Fandango and it also provides a lot of new footage. (It gives us  hints at some of the major events that occur in the latter parts of the film, which are being treated like closely guarded secrets by Disney and Pixar.

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. From Disney and Pixar, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition and challenges destiny to change her fate.

“Brave” follows the heroic journey of Merida, a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources – including her clever and mischievous triplet brothers – to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, discovering the meaning of true bravery.

Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor that audiences of all ages around the world have come to eagerly expect. The film takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3Din select theaters.

We also have an international poster featuring our heroine Merida, the triplets as well as Queen Elinor and King Ferus. Enjoy!

Meet Merida in this Charming Clip from Brave!

Festival and Website News + Character Banners for Brave!

Now this is just what this day called for! More Brave! We needed some beautiful Disney/Pixar imaginings of the mist shrouded Scottish Highlands set to the strains of some rousing Celtic music. Ahhh…I can almost smell the heather!

There have been so many delightful images, clips and trailers already released for Brave that I feel like I’m well acquainted with Merida, our heroine, already, but there’s nothing like hearing her talk about herself in her own voice…well, in Kelly Macdonald’s  (Boardwalk Empire) voice at any rate.

Watch this clip in which the princess talks about changing her fate and invoking a “wee tiny curse” that sets the story in motion:

More to follow I’m sure. Brave, featuring the voices of Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane, open s June 22 in the US and Canada and 17th August in the UK (before which the film will be featured at the Edinburgh Film Festival).

(Thanks to HeyUGuys for the heads up on the clip)

Colorful New Character Posters for Brave!

Colorful New Character Posters for Brave!

Here are four lovely new character posters for Disney/Pixar’s Brave. Again, nothing we haven’t seen before but just “rearranged” a bit.  The posters for the triplets and for Merida I think are the most impressive. Whoever was in charge of the red hair and all of those curls deservers an award of their very own. The look like you can just reach out and run your fingers through them.

I love the expression on the face of King Fergus in his portrait with Queen Elinor. He looks like he’s going to the Highland Prom or they stepped into some sort of medieval photo booth.

The three Lairds are just hilarious, as always. (Why am I the only one referring to them that way? Surely someone at Disney knows that’s the correct title for a Scottish lord? Ah well, when there’s as much to love as there appears to be here, why quibble?)

Watch a New TV Spot for Brave!

We have a new tv spot for Disney/Pixar’s Brave. I have absolutely no problem bringing you every meager little morsel on this one. I am just that excited about it.

So there’s really not much we haven’t already seen in other clips/trailers, but it’s rearranged a bit. It’s also nice to hear Emma Thompson’s voice, as well as Kelly Macdonald’s. (I do find it odd that the only piece of remotely Celtic music they could come up with is Dropkick Murphys’ “Shipping Up to Boston”, which is an Irish whaling song. Its inclusion threatens to take me out of the moment.)

Festival and Website News + Character Banners for Brave!

Festival and Website News + Character Banners for Brave!

We have some very cool news regarding Disney/Pixar’s highly anticipated summer movie, Brave. It seems the film will make its European premiere as the closing attraction of the Edinburgh International Film Festival!  It’s only right that it should have a Scottish premiere of some sort givin the film’s setting, but the inclusion in the prestigious festival is a real coup for the new artistic director Chris Fujiwara.

According to the Herald Scotland, First Minister Alex Salmond announced the news during a speech at VisitScotland's Winning Years Conference in Perth yesterday. Promising that "Hollywood would roll into town" on June 30, the day Brave screens, he said he foresaw a "step change" in tourism as a result of its release. Mr Fujiwara said: "It makes perfect sense that this film, which is so strongly tied to the cultural mythology of Scotland and the beauty of the Scottish landscape, and in which Scottish talent has such a significant involvement, should be part of our festival."

In other Brave news, Disney’s official Brave website has gone live with all sorts of interactive features, as well as the eleven character banners which you can see below, that can be downloaded as wallpaper. Those Triplets crack me up.

Cartoon Network is Giving Us New Dragons to Tide Us Over Until 2014

Cartoon Network is Giving Us New Dragons to Tide Us Over Until 2014

Dreamworks, one of those studios that can’t leave well enough alone, has turned one of its most popular animated movies into a tv series. Since How to Train Your Dragon made nearly half a billion dollars at the box office alone, naturally they’re working on a sequel (although not fast enough if you ask me. HTTYD came out in 2010. We don’t get HTTYD2 until 2014. The entire original cast is back so that’s a good thing. ), but it’s also spawned an original television series for Cartoon Network.  The premise is that even though the island of Berk and its Viking inhabitants thought they had solved their dragon problem, they’d only scratched the surface. There are way more dragons than they realized, so of course they all need to be trained.

I’d never heard of it until I saw Jay Baruchel on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson about a week ago. He was on promoting Goon, but since they both voiced characters in HTTYD, of course the subject was broached. You’ll be happy to know that both have been working on the sequel (since voices are generally recorded separately for animation, they could have scenes together and never be in the same room). Ferguson brought up the television series for which Baruchel again provides the voice of Hiccup. Since I can’t find any other information about the show, other than it’s slated for Fall 2012, I have no idea if any of the other original voices are involved. (I tend to think not.Craig Ferguson is not involved nor is Gerard Butler.)

In any case, Cartoon Network has quietly released two teaser clips, which you can watch below. They use the original music behind the clips but I have to wonder if John Powell is involved with the show. He wasn’t involved with the two shorts released last year, Book of Dragons and Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury. He is on board for the sequel so I’m happy.

The Japanese Will Get Brave Too!

The Japanese Will Get Brave Too!

Wasn’t it just yesterday I was wondering how much more we were going to get before the release of Pixar’s Brave…in JUNE? Following closely behind the release of the character “cards” we got yesterday and the clip we had last week, Disney has released a new trailer, and a poster to go along with it, to the Japanese market. Despite the fact that we don’t get the characters’ original voices (complete with Scottish accents), there is still a lot to like here, particularly all of the spectacular new footage.

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In the film, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Brave, which is Pixar’s 13th animated film, but the first to feature a female protagonist,  is a 3D computer-animated fantasy adventure film directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman. We’ll see it here in the US on June 22, 13th August in the UK and sometime in July in Japan.

More Terrific Images from the World of Brave!

More Terrific Images from the World of Brave!

We have new looks at some of the characters from Disney/Pixar’s Brave! We’ve seen quite a bit of Merida, but not as much about the other main characters There have been a few stills and we’ve had glimpses in the trailers, but Bleeding Cool has gotten their hands on some images of a Brave card game set to be released later this year, and they give us a closer look at some of the supporting characters.

The images of the sons are new.  Kevin McKidd, who voices Laird MacGuffin has revealed that he also does the son’s voice as well, but no word on whether or not the other “Lairds” do double duty as well. (McKidd actually does triple duty. His wonderfully melodic voice could also be heard in the original trailer.)

If The Hobbit films are good advertising for New Zealand, Brave is going to show off Scotland in a way that it hasn’t been seen before, despite the fact that it’s animated. I can’t wait to see this! Who’s with me?!
