That’s right, after a seriously short (by their standards anyway) courtship, Daniel Craig 43, and Rachel Weisz 41, reportedly stood before a judge in New York on Wednesday June 22 with only four people present.  Aside from two unnamed friends, the only other witnesses to the surprise nuptials were Craig’s daughter Ella, from his first marriage to Fiona Loudon, and Weisz’s five year old son, Henry, from her relationship with director Darren Aronofsky.

Okay, raise your hand if you saw THAT coming! I have to admit I’m one of those people who think they make a gorgeous couple, but come on! If I were Satsuki Mitchell or Darren Aronofsky, I think I’d be PISSED!  Daniel Craig was with Mitchell for five years and reportedly engaged.  Aronofsky and Weisz were definitely engaged for most of their eight and a half year relationship, not to mention they have a kid together. When they split, it wasn’t so much a ‘break up’ as it was a divorce, lack of a license not withstanding. As Meg Ryan said in When Harry Met Sally, the first relationship you have after a big breakup isn’t supposed to be “the one”, they’re supposed to be your “transition person”.

Both Craig and Weisz have films coming out this year, separately and together. Craig has the upcoming Cowboys & Aliens, as well as The Adventures of Tintin and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo while Weisz has The Whistleblower, The Deep Blue Sea and Page Eight.  Despite the fact that they supposedly began their relationship when they worked together on director Jim Sheridan’s (In the Name of the Father, In America)Dream House, Both are very private people, so it really seems out of character for both of them for this to be a publicity stunt. (kidding! Of course it’s not. This is the real deal and I know they’ll last forever. What? You don’t think I’m serious?)

Congratulations to the happy couple. I wish the newlyweds every happiness!

Cowboys Aliens Poster

Jon Favreau is bringing us some more in the awesomeness department and I can hardly wait.  This is a really cool mashup up a film.  Cowboys and Aliens…. weird right?  I think way cool.  This one has a great cast including: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Adam Beach, Paul Dano, Noah Ringer, Keith Carradine, Clancy Brown, Ana de la Reguera, and Abigail Spencer.

The (bootleg) red band trailer for  the remake of Niels Arden Oplev’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo looked exceedingly cool, there is no doubt about it, before it was yanked. I wonder if we’ll ever know whether or not it was actually leaked or whether it was a Sony ploy – if it was, it was a damned good one since it had the entire wide world of web talking about a movie that doesn’t even come out for nearly 7 more months.(“The Feel Bad Movie of Christmas” is not a tag that many would dare to hang on a film.) Of course, the masterful use of the Trent Reznor/Karen O cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” helps on that front.

The trailer for David Fincher’s version also looked very similar to the original. As in almost but not quite shot-for- shot similar. It was even filmed in Sweden. So, I have to again ask, “WHY?”

Fincher is a talented director and I admire a lot of his work and he has assembled a first-rate cast, starting with Daniel Craig and including Rooney Mara, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Plummer, Joely Richardson, Steven Berkoff and Joel Kinnaman (from AMC’s “The Killing”. Did you know he’s actually Swedish?)

I’ve mentioned before that I’m quite sure I’ll enjoy Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, but I enjoyed Michael Nyqvist in the role as well and it’s just really soon between the two. I am having a very difficult time believing that Rooney Mara is going to make anyone forget Noomi Rapace. Her Lisbeth Salander is pretty indelible.

I just can’t help feeling that the whole thing is simply because Americans are too lazy to read subtitles. And that just makes me sad.

Okay, here’s something that makes me glad: A couple of international posters have hit the web and Slash Film has them

They definitely capture the spirit of the trailer and most especially, amp up the dangerously sexy appeal of Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomqvist.    They also look amazingly similar to what Fincher described to the Hollywood Reporter back in February

“ he takes out an iPad and clicks on a photo he’s planning to use for the Dragon poster. It shows actor Daniel Craig half-hidden behind co-star Rooney Mara, who’s looking directly into the camera. Her hair is spiky, her face pierced with rings, her body covered in tattoos. It’s black and white and beautiful, but there’s no way in hell any studio will ever let Fincher use it, as he knows.

Because Mara is naked from the waist up.”

I’m willing to bet, however, that this is not the poster that ends up hanging at the multiplex in Peoria, warping poor little Junior’s delicate sensibilities as he waits in line to see Arthur Christmas or the new Muppets movie.

A couple of pics of new hot couple Rachel Weisz 41, and Daniel Craig 43, have surfaced on Just Jared. While this in and of itself may not be newsworthy, especially since all they’re doing is attempting to hail a cab in Paris, (Is this hard to do? I have no idea, having never been to Paris.) I couldn’t resist the opportunity to talk about them.

I must admit to some skepticism when this twosome was first spotted together back in December, although whisperings and rumors were leaking from the Canadian set of their film Dream House, due out on September 30th of this year, despite the fact that Weisz and director Darren Aronofsky, with whom she has a son, Henry, almost 5, announced their split in November. Although no formal announcement was ever made, Craig and his long-time girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell hadn’t been spotted in public since May of 2010.

It’s Official! 23rd James Bond Movie is ON – Daniel Craig is Back!

When it comes to “Show biz” couples, I am extremely cynical. More often than not you hear of a new “couple” and it turns out to be nothing more than the work of an imaginative publicist trying to divert attention from one or both parties improper, illicit or sometimes even illegal shenanagins, ESPECIALLY when one or both have a new movie coming out. If both halves of the couple are in the SAME movie, all bets are off. I can generally spot a fauxmance or a showmance or whatever the new term is, from a mile away.

The more I see these two, however, the more I get the impression that this is the real deal. Don’t get me wrong, my crystal ball is in the shop so I have no idea how long it will last and I wouldn’t presume to suggest they were in it for the long haul. What does that even mean by showbiz standards anyway? It’s already been five months. A lifetime.

My point is, pictures like these give me warm fuzzies. Their chemistry seems to be almost tangible, like from pictures of them walking hand in hand in the snow conjures up images of brandy and bearskin rugs in front of the fire and long deep, soulful kisses…OKAY!

Whether that will translate into movie chemistry is anyone’s guess. Crazy sexy personal sizzle doesn’t always. Take Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston: while they obviously like each other and are both very “touchy-feely” people in their personal lives, their chemistry did not really show up on screen. If it had, I think critics would have gone a little easier on the film. Given all of the leaked set photos, not to mention the red carpet sizzle of their premiere tour, people expected them to “pop” on film.

The flipside is of course Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie. Rewatch Mr. and Mrs. Smith knowing what you know now, and it’s all there. Despite their protestations of innocence, I will never believe they weren’t doing the nasty every chance they got: in their trailers, on the sets, in their cars…but I digress.

They just look good together. Rachel Weisz is just classically beautiful and what I wouldn’t give to stare into Daniel Craig’s preternaturally-blue eyes. And they are both insanely talented and extremely intelligent, qualities which in and of themselves are sexy.

But what I really like about the two of them? They’re the same age! While we tend not to automatically think it of women, raise your hand if it didn’t surprise you that Craig didn’t trade-in Sats for a much younger model? These two might actually be able to have a conversation! (Then again I don’t imagine Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley do much talking.)

The 23rd James Bond film is going to begin production later this year and is slated for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012.

Daniel Craig will be returning as the legendary British secret agent, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.

Daniel Craig has been Bond twice before in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.  He does the role so brilliantly, I am sure that all Bond fans will be thrilled by this news.

There’s no denying it now. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz were seen together over the holidays getting all cozy like a couple of honeymooners according to an onlooker:

“Daniel and Rachel looked like a romantic couple in a film. They were laughing and hanging on to each other’s words and stopping to take photos of each other,” one witness said. Added another: “They were clinging to each other like honeymooners. The chemistry was obvious.”

Earlier this year the two filmed Dream House in Oakville, Ontario, Canada and rumours began to fly about a romance. At the time she was engaged to Darren Aronofsky (they were together 9 years and have a daughter) and Daniel was engaged to Satsuski Mitchell. A source says of the film shoot:

“Rachel and Daniel simply sparked during the filming of Dream House in Canada. They have great chemistry.”

In November Rachel and Daniel split from their partners.

Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky Part Ways

Judging by the picture they really do make a great couple and seem quite ‘natural’. But this is Hollywood and we are dealing with actors where on-set romances are nothing new. The question is, will it last? Is this ‘different’ than your average love affair?

It’s great to see that the stars keep giving to raise money for the devastating earthquake in Haiti.  Last night stars gathered for a Radiohead charity concert in Los Angeles to raise money for OXFAM.org.

George Clooney’s two-hour Hope For Haiti benefit raise over $57 Million but that is expected to rise given the songs performed are available through iTunes.  The Canadian Hope For Haiti benefit raised $16 Million.
