The Men of Safe House Hit New York!

The Men of Safe House Hit New York!

The cast of the new action/adventure thriller Safe House turned out in New York City on Tuesday night February 7 for a red carpet premiere at the SVA Theater.  Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds posed for pictures along with Vera Farmiga (who brought along little sister Taissa, who made a splash in FX’s American Horror Story this year.) Denzel was with beautiful wife Pauletta (she’d probably kick his ass if he didn’t bring her) but luckily there was no sign of Ryan’s current squeeze.

The news of the night was a genuine smile from Reynolds as opposed to a bored smirk. For the most part he looked like he’d rather be somewhere else.

Safe House is about a green CIA agent (Reynolds) who is tasked with looking after a fugitive (Washington) in a safe house in South Africa. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Liam Cunningham, Sam Shepard, Robert Patrick and Joel Kinnaman.  It opens Friday February 10 in the US and 24th February in the UK. Enjoy the pics!

Meet Tobin Frost and Matt Weston: Clip from Safe House

Great Pics and a Clip for Safe House w Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington

We've got a behind-the-scenes featurette from Daniel Espinosa's Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. The clip basically introduces us to Tobin Frost (Washington) and Matt Weston (Reynolds). We also get a little bit more footage than we've seen in the previous trailers.

The Universal Press Release:

Oscar® winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House.  Washington plays the CIA’s most dangerous traitor, who stuns the intelligence community when he surfaces in South Africa.  When the safe house to which he’s remanded is attacked by brutal mercenaries, a rookie (Reynolds) is forced to help him escape.  As the masterful manipulator toys with his reluctant protégé, the young operative finds his morality tested and idealism shaken.  Now, they must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.

Legendary spy Tobin Frost (Washington) has eluded capture for almost a decade. One of the best ops men that the CIA’s ever trained, the brilliant ex-intelligence officer has betrayed assets and sold military codes to enemies of the state since he turned.  From aiding splinter cells to trading incendiary secrets to the highest bidder, the damage he’s done to the U.S. is immeasurable.  Now, Frost is back on the gridwith the most explosive intel he’s ever gotten his hands on.

For the past year, Matt Weston has been frustrated by his inactive, backwater post in Cape Town.  A

Great Pics and a Clip for Safe House w Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington

Great Pics and a Clip for Safe House w Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington

We have a clip from action/adventure thriller, Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.  The movie has an intriguing plot, or rather, the skin that houses the plot is intriguing:

A CIA-operated safe house is targeted by a group of bad guys, the facility's house-sitter is tasked with the dangerous job of moving the criminal who is being hidden there to another secure location.

We haven’t necessarily seen that setup before, even if the whole bad guy abducts good guy, forces him to do his bidding, good guy comes around to realize bad guy not so bad yadda yadda yadda. In fact there’s a film matching that description in theaters right now. It’s called Man on a Ledge. With leads like Washington and Reynolds, I have higher hopes for Safe House. No pun intended. This is Swedish director Daniel Espinosa’s first English language film, so I don’t have a lot to go on, but he’s added one of his country’s best acting exports, Joel Kinnaman to an already outstanding cast, which includes Vera Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Cunningham, Sam Shepherd and Robert Patrick.

This adrenaline fueled, high octane clip from IGN has certainly increased my expectations. Can’t wait to see this stunt in the context of the film:

Safe House looks like a terrific thrill ride and a good excuse to get out of the winter chill and sit in the dark and munch popcorn. We’ve got some great new stills to share as well. Vera Farmiga always looks to me like she belongs in a period film. There’s something about her that looks out of place in a modern setting. The still of Farmiga with Sam Shepard in which she’s wearing business attire, standing  amid a lot of technology, just looks off. Maybe it’ just me.

Safe House opens February 10 in the US and Canada and 24th February in the UK.

Watch the Dangerous First Trailer for Safe House!

Watch the Dangerous First Trailer for Safe House!

Talk about dropping the bread crumbs. It was just the other day we first told you about Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.  We told you about the synopsis:  A CIA-operated safe house is targeted by a group of bad guys, the facility's house-sitter is tasked with the dangerous job of moving the criminal who is being hidden there to another secure location. At that point, it was purely speculation that Reynolds would play the sitter and Washington the criminal (Helped in no small part by the poster).

Well, now we have a trailer. Remember how I said we shouldn’t necessarily be put off by its February release date, and that it could be a lot of fun? Take a look at this. It gives a lot away but, I still think you’ll agree with that assessment. Safe House looks like a terrific thrill ride and a good excuse to get out of the winter chill and sit in the dark and munch popcorn.

“…went rogue”.  I’m shaking my head. It is such a shame that any phrase with that word in it has been permanently ruined. It will forever induce snickers from now on, whenever I hear it. Maybe in the context of the film Vera Farmiga can pull it off.  Safe House costars Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepherd, Liam Cunningham, Robert Patrick and Joel Kinnaman.

First Look at Denzel Washington in Safe House!

First Look at Denzel Washington in Safe House!

Safe House is a new thriller  that we haven’t talked about before. It stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds (in a role every known actor with a certain age range, including Sam Worthington, James McAvoy, Channing Tatum, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and Hemsworth all reportedly were considered for before they settled on Reynolds.)

Synopsis: When a CIA-operated safe house is targeted by a group of bad guys, the facility's house-sitter is tasked with the dangerous job of moving the criminal who is being hidden there to another secure location.

Now just judging from this poster alone, I’d say the criminal is Washington and the “sitter” is Reynolds. Why haven’t I heard about this before?? One reason could be that this screenwriter David Guggenheim is pretty much an unknown. He’s got another movie coming out in 2012, Medallion directed by Simon West with Nicolas Cage and a tv movie supposedly due to air this year, Exit Strategy directed by Antoine Fuqua, but that’s it. BUT someone somewhere obviously thought he had talent.

Safe House opens February 10, which some might see as a bad sign, but just because it isn’t awards worthy doesn’t mean it won’t be entertaining. We have to watch something in the cold winter months. And at least it’s not January.

‘The Book of Eli’ Premieres in Los Angeles

full_MilaKunis_04_wenn5413972

Although Denzel Washington plays the title role in the movie, I just had to put Mila Kunis’ picture as the main one. Sorry Denzel (like he’s reading this).  She looks breathtaking and I just love the photography of the picture!  They were in Los Angeles last night to premiere The Book Of Eli which opens January 15:

A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind

I love the tag line of the movie:  Some will kill to have it. He will kill to protect it

Also attending the premiere:

  • Kimberly Elise
  • Malclm McDowell
  • Gary Oldman
  • Debbie Allen
  • Magic Johnson
  • Taraji P. Henson
