Mo Better Pics from the Set of Dead Man Down

Mo Better Pics from the Set of Dead Man Down

Dead Man Down is a new crime thriller from the director of the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Niels Arden Oplev, that just started filming in Philadelphia about a week ago. It reunites the director with his Girl star Noomi Rapace as well as Colin Farrell, Dominic Cooper, Terrence Howard and Isabelle Hupert.

In New York City, a crime lord's right-hand man is seduced by one of his boss's victims, a woman seeking retribution.

There have been pics coming off the set nearly every day since shooting started on April 27. Philly pap extraordinaire, HughE, has been on the case and we’ve gotten shots of Farrell (who will be on screen this summer in Total Recall), Cooper and Howard (last seen in Red Tails). Hopefully the trend will continue and we’ll get some including Rapace. Today we have pics of Farrell and Cooper filming another street scene. The goings on don’t actually give us a clue to the action. It appears in one shot that Cooper (who will next be seen in this summer’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is trying to get his character’s pants to ride just the right amount of low and in another I’m not sure if Farrell is praying or trying to remember his lines. (If it’s the former, sorry for the intrusion.)

Again, Dead Man Down is obviously still in production. We have no release dates yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

Behind The Scenes with History’s First Superhero!

Behind The Scenes with History's First Superhero!

Tim Burton appears to be back in top form this summer. Next week we’ll see the release of the director’s Dark Shadows (more on that later) and then later in this June we’ll finally get to see the Burton produced genre mashup, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. (That’s a new poster above and a new image from the film below.)

A terrific new featurette has just dropped online. While there’s not a lot of new footage in it, what’s there is put into a bit of perspective by screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (who adaptsed his own novel) in conversation with the film’s director Timur Bekmambetov and producer Burton. The trio discuss the nature of Lincoln’s character and how he stacks up against other superheroes, Batman in particular.  What I find most amusing is how serious they are about it, given that the “character” they are discussing is a real historical figure

“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the bloodthirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.”

Benjamin Walker gets his big screen break as Lincoln. The supporting cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Anthony Mackie, and Rufus Sewell.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will be released in 3D on June 22 in the US and Canada and 2nd August in the UK.

Colin Farrell is a Dead Man Down

Colin Farrell is a Dead Man Down

…not very clever but whaddya want? It's early.

Dead Man Down is a new crime thriller from the director of the Swedish version  of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Niels Arden Oplev.  It reunites the director with his Girl star Noomi Rapace as well as Colin Farrell, Dominic Cooper, Terrence Howard and Isabelle Hupert.

In New York City, a crime lord's right-hand man is seduced by one of his boss's victims, a woman seeking retribution.

If it’s set in New York, I’m not sure why they’re filming in Philadelphia. It may be standing in or the action may move to that city. In any case, we have some pics from the set featuring Colin Farrell not doing much of anything, Dominic Cooper hiding behind a car and Terrence Howard playing with guns. (He's probably trying to direct the movie.)

Dead Man Down is obviously still in production. (Actually, shooting just began on April 17) We have no release dates yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

History Remembers the Battle But Not the Blood: 2nd Trailer for Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

History Remembers the Battle But Not the Blood: 2nd Trailer for Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

WonderCon  has yielded yet another little nugget , this time the Fox panel delivered  in the form of the second full length trailer for the movie that asks the question, “Are you a Patriot or a vampire?”, Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold story that shaped our nation. The16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the bloodthirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

This is a genre mashup, so if you're looking for straight history or even historical fiction as you know it, you won't find it here. What you will find is a blending of horror and action adventure using historical figures and contexts to tell an entirely original backstory for the historical people, places and events we think we know.

From a script by Seth Graham-Smith, based on his own novel, the movie stars Benjamin Walker as Abe Lincoln (In a role first offered to Tom Hardy), Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and hits theaters in the US June 22 and 2nd August in the UK.

More Presidential Bad-Assery in Intl Trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

Fantastic First Posters for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

Well, I don’t know about you but I still haven’t stopped reeling from yesterday’s teaser trailer for timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and now Fox has dropped the international version on us. It’s filled with everything we got in the first version plus…more. More ax-swinging Presidential bad-assery, more pyrotechnics, more gunplay, more dramatic tension and more glimpses of the characters we’ve yet to meet in full.

Despite the fact that Bekmambetov is best known in this country as the director of Wanted, a film based on a graphic novel and starring Angelina Jolie, he has also directed some very well respected vampire movies in his native Russia. It is apparent from these two teasers that stylistic elements of those films (Night Watch and Day Watch) as well as the action-adventure Wanted are present in the new film.

Oh my sweet baby jeebus does this look good or what?!? Yes, yes it does! I will brook no dissention! Based on Seth Grahame-Smith's historical fiction/fantasy mash-up, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter tells the story of the 16th President from his self-made rise through politics to his assassination from the perspective that that black mark on the nation’s conscience had less to do with the Civil War as it did with a cover-up of a much darker story.  Abraham Lincoln, pen wielding politician by day, ax wielding vampire hunter by night.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alan Tudyk and Rufus Sewell. It opens June 22 in the US and 2nd August in the UK.

1st Teaser Trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Badass

Behind the Scenes with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

This morning a seriously cool first teaser trailer for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was unleashed upon us. I should have known it was coming, given all of the stills and pics that have been trickling out in a steady flow of late, all in an effort to start the slow build of buzz for an epic film with an unknown in the lead. (Benjamin Walker is said to have bested the likes of Adrien Brody for the role.) This teaser will go a long way toward that end I think.

I love what I’ve seen thus far in terms of the production design and the blue color palette. The effects are also going to be spectacular as we’d expect them to be coming from the collective minds of Tim Burton and Bekmambetov. There are definitely some stylistic tricks he learned while making Wanted evidenced here.

I was born on Lincoln’s birthday so the 16th US President has always held a fascination for me. I’m looking forward to this alternative take on his life just as much as I am Spielberg’s more straightforward approach starring Daniel Day Lewis.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter costars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk and Rufus Sewell. It hits theaters June 22  in the US and Canada and 2nd August in the UK. Enjoy the trailer. More will surely follow soon!

Crouching Vampire, Hidden Lincoln! More Stills from AL:VH!

Crouching Vampire, Hidden Lincoln! More Stills from AL:VH!

You think I’m just being funny? Take a closer look at the image at the top of the post. That’s your first glimpse of one of the vampires that Honest Abe is attempting to wipe out in Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. We have yet more new images, courtesy of USA Today of Benjamin Walker as Lincoln, wielding his trusty ax in furtherance of his cause, as well as doing some cinematic ninja moves. Getting in on the action once again, is Erin Wasson as Vandoma. We also have a couple from 20th Century Fox of Walker at Gettysburg and with director Bekmambetov.

The movie centers on the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.

With a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith, based on his novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter also stars Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (as Mary Todd Lincoln), Jimmi Simpson, Robin McLeavy, Alan Tudyk (as Stephen Douglas) and Rufus Sewell. It comes to theaters in the US on June 22 and 2ndAugust in the UK.
