George Michael has been released from prison after serving 4 of the 8 weeks he was sentenced to after pleading guilty to possessing pot and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

He was serving time in Pentonville prison where he was not put in general population for his own safety. He was then moved to C jail Highpoint Prison in Suffolk.

He not only received the jail sentence but faces a five-year driving ban, was fined £1,250 and ordered to pay £100 costs plus a £15 “victim surcharge”.

No word on why he was sprung early.  He says of his his time in jail and his new found freedom:

“It’s fantastic, it’s a beautiful day but I won’t go into all of that,” “I want to say thank you to everyone who supported me in there, it’s quite inspirational. I’m coming out here on my own so you’ll realise I just want to start again. I’m going to stop trying to run away from you guys.”

He talked to reporters outside his home saying:

“I’m fine, the house is empty, I just decided to… I just thought there’s no one in the house, my minders have gone home, I just thought… y’know, much as I’d like to play cat and mouse with you all I can’t be bothered,” he laughed. “I want to go out.”

George Michael can be seen making his way through crowds of people as he attends Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court where he plead guilty to being under the influence of pot (as well as possession) in connection with an arrest last month in which he crashed his Range Rover in London.

That guilty plea could get him some jail time.  District Judge Robin McPhee:

“I make it clear the options in respect of sentence remain open, including the power to imprison.

“It is a serious matter. Your driving was extremely poor and there was an accident. There is also a conviction from three years ago.”

For now he is on a six month ban from driving and will be back in court September 14 where he will learn his fate.

Singer, George Michael was detained on Friday in Hampstead Heath area of north London, close to his home in Highgate.  He was questioned and later released with caution for possessing class A and class C drugs – cocaine and cannabis.

According to a police spokesperson:

“We can confirm a 45-year-old man was arrested in the Hampstead Heath area on the 19th September on suspicion of possessing drugs.
“He was taken to a North London police station where he received a caution and was released with no further action.
“The caution was for the possession of class A and class C drugs, cocaine and cannabis.”

No stranger to drug arrrests, he was charged in October 2006 when he was found slumped over in his car and again in May of 2007 when he was handed a 2 year driving ban after pleading guilty to unfit for driving.
