Dreamworks Animation has dropped a trailer for Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Again starring Ben Stiller (Alex), Jada Pinkett Smith (Gloria), David Schwimmer (Melman), Chris Rock (Marty), Sacha Baron Cohen (‘King’ Julien), Cedric the Entertainer (Maurice), Andy Richter (Mort) and Sherri Shepherd (Florrie), I’m not sure who was clamoring for a third installment in the Madagascar franchise, but this trailer is showing in front of New Year’s Eve and it’s got some genuinely funny moments (probably more than the film it precedes).  “Chimichanga! These pillows are filled with baby birds!”  One of the penguins yells with anguish after a pillow fight. Funniest part of the trailer: Chris Rock’s Marty singing about his polka-dot circus afro. I could listen to that all day…okay, well at least a few more times. Cracks me the hell up.

I love the James Bond-esque music underneath the beginning of the trailer, indeed Hans Zimmer’s score is pretty good from the little I can glean here. (At least I think it’s Zimmers. I’m seeing differing reports. Zimmer was responsible for the scores of Madagascar 1 and 2, but I’m also seeing Harry Gregson Williams’ name on 3.) The sound track also includes the obligatory covers (the better to sell that Original Soundtrack album) like  

The synopsis is: Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo join a traveling circus in an effort to get back home to New York.

Of course it’s not that simple for this anthropomorphic bunch as they try to travel through Europe without attracting the attention of the police and an obsessive animal control officer on a mission (Frances McDormand in her first animated role. Not sure about vocally, but visually her character is a scream). They're joined by several of their friends, including King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins, but after joining the circus there are encounters with new animals as well, including Stefano, an Italian sea lion, a Russian tiger and Gia, a Latina jaguar.  Andre Benjamin voices Zuba but I’m most curious about Zarragoza the circus tiger. I can’t figure out whose voice that is.  

Once again directed by Eric Darnell, this ‘threequel’ was written by Noah Baumbach (Greenberg, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Margot at the Wedding, The Squid and the Whale). Baumbach is reason enough alone to be curious about this film.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted escapes to theaters in 3D on June 8 in the US and 19^th October in the UK.

Reports are coming out (In Touch) that Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith have separated. This is one piece of news I just can not believe unless I read an actual statement by the couple.

To me, Will and Jada represent all that’s right in the world of celebrity marriage. They appear to be as normal as a multi-millionaires in Hollywood can be. And by Hollywood standards, they have been married an eternity (13 years).

TMZ called Jada’s rep Karynne Tencer and asked if there is any truth to it, and she responded with:

 ”What? In Touch said that? I know nothing about this … Lord. I’m going back to bed.”

Ha! That’s a funny response.

The picture of this fine couple above is from June. They look pretty happy to me, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Let’s hope this rumor is not true.

Uptown - Jada Pinkett Smith

There is just something about Jada Pinkett Smith that has always gotten on my nerves.  Perhaps it’s her better-than-you attitude… her superior demeanor… I don’t know.  Just that look on her face on the cover of Uptown mag, I want to smack her.

She says she’s always been a warrior, but that’s always been just one part of her:

“Sometimes you have to live who you’re not, to know who you are,” she says.  “That same girl you saw in Menace is the same girl who even then was listening to metal. But nobody knew that. If you talk to the Queen Latifahs and the Tupac Shakurs, they’d say, ‘Of course!’ I’ve always been a lot of things.”

I watched a couple of episodes of her show, Hawthore, but she, once again, got on my nerves!

“It’s do or die,” she says about HawthoRNe’s third season. She gets animated (and slightly secretive) about it: “I can’t…. You’ve got to watch.”

Willow Smith is a natural born super star thanks to the amazing genes she came from…. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.  Acting and singing come to her like a bowl of ice cream comes to me.  (Very easily.)

Willow made a huge splash in the latest issue of Teen Vogue, doing a very “loud” photo shoot that you can’t help but smile when you look at it.

Willow Smith is Bringing Back ‘Annie’

Have I mentioned that she’s only 10?  Yeah, she’s going to have a very long, successful career.

Willow, who joins Justin on his European tour this month, admits that even she’s still getting used to it all. “When I first put ['Whip My Hair'] out, everyone was like, ‘Willow, Willow, I love your song!’ And I was like, ‘Really?’” recalls the singer.

She credits the incredible popularity of the single, in part, to its positive message. “Whipping your hair means not being afraid to be yourself,” Willow explains. “If people don’t like you, then bunck them, you know?”

Where does she get her style sense?  From her own, brilliant mind.  She does what she wants!

“I wear anything I feel like,” says the singer, who masterminds her outfits with a team of fashion stylists and hairdressers that she refers to as “my crew.” “If I want to put on a pair of Converse with a pencil stuck through them, I will.” She’s also developed an interest in fancier attire, attending the Dolce & Gabbana spring show with her mom. “Their designs are really cool,” she says.

It was a who’s who of Hollywood and their kids last night at Justin Bieber’s Los Angeles premiere of Never Say Never. His girlfriend Selena Gomez attended as did his mother but those two were a given, no?

And although they are not ‘official’ in their relationship he did say to People about her:

“It’s great.” He then added: “She’s a great person. And as long as you keep yourself surrounded by good people, you’ll go far.”

Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith premiered The Karate Kid along with Jaden’s dad and mom Will and Jada Pinkett and his siblings. Proud mom Jada says of her son’s role in the movie:

“As parents, we saw the blood, the sweat, and the tears that he put into it.”

Original Karate Kid Ralph Macchio also attended the festivities with his own son and told The Insider:

“I’m here representing the legacy of the brand we were able to create way back in the day.”

It’s totally way back in the day because Ralph has his own son who is 14 years old! Time flies, doesn’t it?

Jackie Chan had advice for Jaden while making the film:

‘When it comes to stunt choreography, I have a lot of advice to give. On the set, I showed him how he could make his moves stronger and more powerful. But I also shared many stories of hardship from my life with him. I constantly reminded him that he should always appreciate all that he has because so many others in China have so little’

The movie opens in theatres on Friday.  Will you be seeing it?
