An Invitation to the Set of Game of Thrones and Character Posters!

An Invitation to the Set of Game of Thrones and Character Posters!

I am getting so excited for the new season of Game of Thrones! Every new crumb that HBO drops makes me follow them blindly, a line of drool running from my mouth as I salivate for more. (Not a pretty picture, I grant you, but nonetheless true.)

Today we have character posters with up close glimpses of  some of the best characters from season one, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Tyrion Lannister (the award-winning Peter Dinklage), Cersei and Jaime Lannister (Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Khal Drogo and his Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen (Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke) (*sniff* Sorry still in mourning.)

Not having read the books, I don’t know exactly what’s on deck for Season 2, other than the portentous “War is Coming”, the tagline that replaces last season’s “Winter is Coming”. I’ve also gleaned some from the featurettes we’ve been given. I know that little Arya is not so little anymore and has a bigger story. I know that all of the houses of the Seven Kingdoms are preparing for war since each has what they consider to be a rightful claim to the Iron Throne, and I know that there are A LOT of new characters being added, for instance Carice van Houten as Melisandre and Stephen Dillane as Stannis Baratheon, Gwendolyn Christie as Brienne, Patrick Malahide as Balon Greyjoy and Liam Cunningham as Ser Davos Seaworth, just to name a few.

HBO has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes featurette called “An Invitation to the Set” and you can view it below. Game of Thrones returns on Sunday April 1. More to come, I’m sure!

Jason Momoa Hanging in Venice (photos)

Jason Momoa Hanging in Venice

I hope that's his agent calling with a job offer…

Our favorite Hawaiian volcano was spotted out and about yesterday in Venice, CA.  Doing nothing but chatting on his cell, sipping his beloved beer or laughing with friends, he manages to set our hearts and loins aflutter. Maybe if our glimpses weren’t so few and far between we wouldn’t get so excited….

Chyeah right…

Actually, Jason Momoa has been venturing down from his mountain retreat quite a bit in the past few weeks, making a few of the awards season soirees honoring HBO’s Game of Thrones. I’m sure he’s still hoping that George R. R. Martin or showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss will find a way to bring Khal Drogo back from the dead. (So am I!) Maybe he has a twin brother!

We have a couple of pics from the HBO Golden Globes after party, as well as one with GoT costar Emilia Clarke at the AFI luncheon.  Jason’s got a new movie to promote, Bullet to the Head with Sylvester Stallone, which opens April 13. Hopefully he’ll be making the publicity rounds for that.

Enjoy the pics!

Warner Brothers Previews Their 2012 Menu

Warner Brothers Previews Their 2012 Menu

While some studios are still in the thrall of awards-season desserts, Warner Brothers  is giving us some amuse bouche from their 2012 menu. Kicking off the 2012 movie season, Warner Bros.  has released some new images from horror thriller The Apparition with Ashley Greene, Sylvester Stallone's action thriller Bullet To The Head, the musical Rock Of Ages, and the latest Nicholas Sparks based, four hankie tearjerker, The Lucky One, starring Zac Efron. A little something for everyone?

The Apparition is about a couple Kelly (Ashley Greene) and Ben (Sebastian Stan) who discover they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured during a university parapsychology experiment. The horrifying apparition feeds on their fear and torments them no matter where they try to run. Their last hope is an expert in the supernatural (Tom Felton), but even with his help they may already be too late to save themselves from this terrifying force…  Written, produced and directed by Todd Lincoln (who has nothing else to recommend him. I have no idea what that indicates), The Apparition also stars Julianna Guill, Rick Gomez, Anna Clark and Luke Pasqualino. It opens August 24

The Lucky One stars Zac Efron as USMC Sgt Logan Thibault who returns from his 3rd tour of duy in Iraq with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive- a photograph of he doesn’t know. He learns her name (Beth played by Taylor Schilling) and where she lives. He shows up on her doorstep and takes a job at her family’s kennel. A romance blossoms, giving Logan hope that Beth could be more than just his good luck charm. It also stars Blythe Danner, Adam Lefevre, Jay R. Ferguson and Riley Thomas Stewart and is directed by Scott Hicks (Shine). The Lucky One (not to be confused with The Lucky Ones from 2008 also having to do with returning soldiers (plural this time) and starring Rachel McAdams, who is in that other Nicholas Sparks movie for 2012, The Vow) opens in theaters on April 20.

Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie (Julianne Hough) and city boy Drew (Diego Boneta), who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and more. It stars Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Alec Baldwin and  Tom Cruise as aging rock legend Stacee Jax. Rock of Ages opens on June 1. Russell Brand appears to be playing some variation of himself, but I love Alec Baldwin’s wig.

Bullet To The Head, directed by Walter Hill (The Warriors, 48 Hrs. The Driver), stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Momoa, Christian Slater and Sung Kang  is based on a graphic novel and tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a New York City cop (Momoa – I think) who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners. It has an April 13 release date. We showed you the first image last week of Momoa trying to split Stallone like a cord of wood. In this one, Sly has a big gun and is obviously trying to outdo my Hawaiian Volcano in the tatts department.

First Look at Sylvester Stallone and Jason Momoa in Bullet to the Head!

First Look at Sylvester Stallone and Jason Momoa in Bullet to the Head!

We finally have a first look of some sort from Sylvester Stallone's new action movie, Bullet to the Head, costarring Jason Momoa. It looks like this flick is going to be as over the top as…well…Over the Top.

That’s Sly of course, trying to stave off being cleaved in two by an axe. The manly muscled arms trying to do the damage belong to Jason. I’d know that bicep anywhere, not to mention the forearm tatt.

Bullet to the Head, formerly titled Headshot (God, that drives me nuts! Time and time again, a movie has a more clever title and it gets changed to something more idiot friendly), is directed by Walter Hill (48 Hours, Warriors, The Getaway-actually his credits are many. He can do action).

The setup: After watching their respective partners die, a cop and a hitman (Stallone’s Jimmy Bobo (Yes, that’s the character’s name. Something tells me that name is going to be a running gag in the movie. It’s too ludicrous to be played straight.) form an alliance in order to bring down their common enemy.

Momoa plays Keegan and ordinarily I’d say he plays the cop and Christian Slater, whose character is called Marcus Baptiste, would be the “common enemy”, but if that’s the case, something goes horribly wrong somewhere if Jason’s trying to embed an axe into Sly’s skull. And by the way, Sly is 65. Jason is literally half his age and seven inches taller. I have no idea how much either of them weigh, but c'mon. I think it would take the titular bullet for Sly to stop Jason. Just sayin'.

Stay tuned for updates. Bullet to the Head fires at theaters in the US and the UK on April 12.

Game of Thrones DVD Details Released!

Game of Thrones DVD Details Released!

One of the most hotly anticipated dvd/blu-ray releases for the new year would have to be season 1 of HBO’s huge hit, “Game Of Thrones”. The series captured the epic scale and scope of the books by George R. R. Martin upon which it’s based and fans are expecting something equally epic in terms of the home edition content. The series starred Sean Bean, Lena Heady, Peter Dinklage, Jason Momoa, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, Mark Addy, Aiden Gillen, Emilia Clarke, Iain Glenn, Michelle Fairley, Kit Harrington, Harry Lloyd and Richard Madden

The discs drop on March 6, 2012, which is an indication that HBO expects the dvds to be just as popular as the show: they’re skipping holiday season. Instead of rushing to completion for Christmas, they’re taking their time because they know they’ll sell a bazillion copies anyway. The special features will be extensive, including a myriad of behind-the-scenes “making of” documentaries and featurettes focusing on the making of the show, its source material, cast, crew, etc., not to mention the seven commentaries. The extras are rich and plentiful, befitting a show of this caliber.

Bonus Features:

Both the DVD and Blu-ray versions will include the complete first season (10 episodes) plus:

  • Complete Guide to Westeros
“An interactive compendium of the noble houses and lands featured in season one.”
  • Making “Game of Thrones”
“An exclusive 30-minute feature including never-before-seen footage from the set and interviews from the cast and crew.”
  • Character Profiles
“Profiles of 15 major characters as described by the actors portraying them.”
  • Creating the Show Open
“An inside look at the creation of the Emmy-winning opening title sequence for Game of Thrones.”
  • From the Book to the Screen
“Executive producers David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, and author George R.R. Martin talk about the challenges of bringing Martin’s epic fantasy novel to life on HBO.”
  • The Night’s Watch
“An in-depth look at the unique order of men who patrol and protect the Wall, a 700 foot ice structure that separates the Seven Kingdoms from the darkness beyond.”
  • Creating the Dothraki Language
“An insightful glance into the comprehensive language created for the Dothraki people in Game of Thrones.”
  • Audio Commentaries
“Seven audio commentaries with Cast and Crew including David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, George R.R. Martin, Emilia Clarke, (Emmy winner) Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, and more.”

BLU-RAY ONLY:

ALL THE ABOVE PLUS:

  • Blu-ray Complete Guide to Westeros
“An interactive compendium of the noble houses and lands featured in season one, PLUS 24 exclusive histories of the Seven Kingdoms as told by the characters themselves.”
  • In-Episode Guide
“In-feature resource that provides background information about on-screen characters, locations, and relevant histories while each episode plays.”
  • Anatomy of an Episode
“An in-episode experience that explores the creative minds and colossal efforts behind episode six, ‘A Golden Crown.’”
  • Hidden Dragon Eggs
“Find the hidden dragon eggs to uncover even more never-before-scene content.”

Finally a reason to buy dvds again. Lately it seems that studios have been getting lazy (or just chintzy) with the special features. Considering that’s why most of us BUY the discs (instead of renting or watching via VOD), that’s an opportunity wasted. “Game of Thrones” would seem to be worth splashing out on.
