New Pics! Welcome to the Punch, Hunger Games and More!

New Pics! Welcome to the Punch, Hunger Games and More!

We have the first image from Eran Creevy’s Welcome to the Punch starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong. The story follows an ex-criminal (Strong) who is forced to return to London from his Icelandic hideaway when his son is involved in a heist gone wrong. This gives a dogged detective (McAvoy) one last chance to catch the man he’s always been after. It opens in September in the UK. No US date yet. You'd better believe I'll be keeping an eye on this one! (Thanks to ScreenDaily for the pic.)

New Pics! Welcome to the Punch, Hunger Games and More!

We’ve got two new images from The Hunger Games! One of them shows Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman  with Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss and if I didn’t know that was Stanley Tucci, I would never guess. That is some wig.  The ‘interviewer’ or emcee of The Games, apparently Caesar is famous for changing the color of his lips, hair, and eyelids for each of the Hunger Games.  The other images shows Katniss in the crowd in District 12 at “the reaping” which is when participants in The Games are chosen.

Here’s a new look at Channing Tatum-tot and Academy*cough*Award*choke*nominee*pounds head on keyboard* Jonah Hill from 21 Jump Street. Dressed in their prom tuxes amid debris and hiding behind bullet-riddled furniture, I’m guessing they won’t be getting the deposit on the hotel room back.

Still not sure how I feel about The Five Year Engagement but the leads are pretty damn likeable. Emily Blunt and Jason Segel might be nearly as charming as Jason Segel and Amy Adams were in The Muppets. Hmm…I’m sensing a pattern here.

…But then again, Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor were charming together in the trailer for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.

Here’s a new look at the Pirate Captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) from The Pirates! Band of Misfits coming in March. The trailers for this are hilarious. Hopefully it will be available in 2D as well as the dreaded 3.

And finally, last (and certainly least) here’s another look at the master thespians of The Three Stooges, Will Sasso as Curley, Chris Diamantopolous as Moe and Sean Hayes as Larry. The movie’s out in April, though inexplicably not on the 1st.

Jason Segel Doesn’t Like Celebrity Fan Retweets

Jason Segel Doesn't Like Celebrity Fan Retweets

How I Met Your Mother's Jason Segel took to Twitter to express is disapproval over the fact that other celebrities retweet their fans' tweets. It seems Jason isn't interested in following those people, only the celebrities whose work he admires. While that's completely understandable some things one should use their inner voice for, no?

You know, I love me some Jason. Especially after seeing him in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. And by that I mean he's hung like a horse so what's not to love, right? But this tweet makes me think he's a bit of a douche. Mommy no like. While his intention may not be to be a douche, he certainly comes across like that. Those celebrities that retweet their fans tweets GET IT. Fans are the ones buying the movie tickets, DVDs, albums, concert tickets, etc.

What are your thoughts? Harmless tweet or not?

Poster and First Trailer for Jeff Who Lives at Home

Poster and First Trailer for Jeff Who Lives at Home

We just got a brand new poster for Jeff Who Lives at Home, the new film from the writers/directors of indie darling Cyrus, Jeff and Mark Duplass.  It’s the story of an aimless 30-something played by Jason Segel who, appropriately enough, is still living in his mother’s house. Dispatched from his basement room on an errand for his mother (Susan Sarandon), slacker Jeff might discover his destiny (finally) when he spends the day withhis brother (Ed Helms) as he tracks his possibly adulterous wife (Judy Greer).

Now before I could even get that out to you, Paramount Vantage has just released the first trailer. (It's unusual that they come in such close proximity to each other, but I like it.) The trailer shows us much more than a simple comedy. The filmmakers aren’t going for rioutous laughter. It’s obviously a story about family and finding one’s path and place in the world, with sharp dialogue and nuanced performances that provide the comic relief.

Whatever else is going on here, there's going to be a soft gooey center full of heart. And whatever else the Duplass brothers have going for them, they have the ability to attract a great cast. Cyrus boasted Oscar winner Marisa Tomei, Oscar nominee John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill (okay so since then he’s been nominated for a Golden Globe).  Jeff Who Lives at Home made its debut at Sundance 2011 and then played the Toronto International Film Festival last fall. The film opens in the US on March 16 and 20th April in the UK.

First Look at The Five Year Engagement with Emily Blunt and Jason Segel!

First Look at The Five Year Engagement with Emily Blunt and Jason Segel!

Jason Segel is adorable and talented. Anyone who didn’t love him after “Freaks and Geeks” probably developed a crush after Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The world has embraced him after he resurrected The Muppets for us all. I do believe that even if he didn’t have an appealing lead like Emily Blunt in Nicholas Stoller’s The Five Year Engagement, he could carry most of it alone. Luckily for him, and for us, he does.

Universal has released this synopsis: From the filmmakers that brought you Bridesmaids, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up, THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT takes a hilarious look at an engaged couple that keeps getting tripped up on their long walk down the aisle.  Directed by Nicholas Stoller and starring a beloved comedy cast that includes Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Chris Pratt, Alison Brie and Rhys Ifans… this is an engagement you won’t want to miss.

Stoller and Segel co-wrote the screenplay of this one, just as they did for The Muppets. Stoller also gets points for that.

Not sure what Maxim-crowd favorite Alison Brie is doing with that British accent, but it is a comfort knowing that Chris Pratt is around to do his loveable doofus routine. In addition to Mindy Kaling, Chris Parnell and Kevin Hart, there are great (older) character actors surrounding the cute couple and their friends as well. Mimi Kennedy and David Paymer play Tom’s parents, Carol and Pete Solomon.  Violet Barnes’ parents are played by Jim Piddick as George and Jacki Weaver as Sylvia Dickerson-Barnes.  I have hope for this.

The Five Year Engagement opens in the US, Canada and the UK on April 27.

Manic Muppet Monday! Three New Clips from The Muppets!

It's The Muppets! On a Poster!

Muppets Muppets Muppets…two more days until The Muppets! That’s right, it’s finally here! The Muppets opens in theaters in the US and Canada on Wednesday November 23. (Big frowny face for the UK who doesn’t get it until 10 February.)

Written by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller and directed by James Bobin  ("The Flight of the Conchords", "Da Ali G Show"), The Muppets is the first theatrical Muppet movie since 1999 and the first without Frank Oz, who retired from his "Muppet career" after Muppets in Space, to focus on his directorial efforts, although he still occasionally performs on Sesame Street. His characters have officially and seamlessly been taken over by Eric Jacobson. It stars Segel, Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis, Neil Patrick Harris, Ricky Gervais and Emily Blunt among many others.

The plot involves Gary (Segel), his Muppet roommate Walter,  and his friend from Smalltown, USA, Mary (Adams) who must help Kermit and company get back together, since they've all gone their separate ways (Fozzie now performs with a tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at French Vogue, Animal is in a clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a wealthy plumbing magnate), in order to put on a show, actually “The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever”, to save their old studio, Muppet Theater, when it is scheduled to be destroyed by greedy oil tycoon, Tex Richman. (Chris Cooper)

We have three new clips, courtesy of our friends at Movieweb. The first is called “Show Pitching”

The second is called “Cleaning the Theater”

The third is called “Dance Partner” (featuring Pepe the King Prawn, who cracks me the hell up)

Miss Piggy Rules the Green Carpet at The Muppets Premiere!

Miss Piggy Rules the Green Carpet at The Muppets Premiere!

It’s time for your daily does of Muppets! Last night at LA’s El Capitan Theatre, The Muppets had it’s gala ‘green’ carpet premiere. A lot of the cast was there, including Amy Adams and writer/producer/star Jason Segel, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Neil Patrick Harris, Mickey Rooney, Kristin Schaal and Rico Rodgriguez, but as you can imagine, the night belonged to Her Porcine Majesty, Miss Piggy. La Porkette arrived in the back of a chauffer driven silver Mercedes amid a flurry of paparazzi flashbulbs and then off course the crowd went bananas when they spotted Kermit. New Muppet, Walter, who plays Jason Segel’s character Gary’s half brother, looked dashing in his new powder blue suit. Fozzie Bear and Rowlf looked like they’d had a bath for the occasion and even Animal was on his best behavior.

There were some humans who got a bit of attention, like Jennifer Morrison and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Some were just looking for it, like Lisa Rinna and Nancy Grace. (Am even I supposed to know who Bella Thorne is?)  Anyway, enjoy the pics! The Muppets opens November 23!
