Oh HELL Yes! First Trailer for Jeremy Renner as Not Bourne

Oh HELL Yes! 1st First Trailer for Jeremy Renner as Not Bourne

Universal Studios has dropped the first trailer and a new poster for our first official look at Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross in the upcoming The Bourne Legacy

Synopsis:

Writer/director Tony Gilroy (who also wrote all three previous Bourne films) takes control of the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. Gilroy gives us an original story that expands the world of Jason Bourne and the characters created by Robert Ludlum, and introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

So? What do you think? I'm all in!

While this is just the first teaser, I’m looking forward to what Gilroy will bring to this series. From what we see here, the style looks akin to that of Michael Clayton, which is by no means a bad thing. I’m a Gilroy fan. I championed Duplicity back in ’09 as a smart, sexy romantic mystery for grownups in the vein of Charade. I’ve said from the first that I think the Bourne franchise would be safe in Gilroy’s hands. This first trailer reaffirms that for me. I look forward to a lot more before August 3 when The Bourne Legacy hits theaters!

Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix Film in Brooklyn (photos)

Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix Film in Brooklyn (photos)

New Year, new movie: This one doesn’t have a title but it’s written and being produced and directed by James Gray and stars Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix in one of his first starring roles since he got the train back from Crazy Town.  This is Phoenix’s fourth collaboration with Gray after The Yards, We Own the Night and Two Lovers. (That last might have been what bought him the ticket to Crazy Town in the first place.) In any case, what is currently known only as Untitled James Gray Project is currently filming on location in Brooklyn.

The basic plot of the film involves an innocent immigrant woman (Cotillard) who is tricked into a life of burlesque and vaudeville until a dazzling magician (Jeremy Renner) tries to save her and reunite her with her sister who is being held in the confines of Ellis Island.

Since Renner is playing the romantic hero (Orlando the Magician), we can assume that Phoenix’s character (Bruno Weiss) will be the one who seduces Cotillard’s Sonya Cybulski. Is it too soon to say “I’m in”? I love the idea of Renner playing this type of character. He’s got a look about him that is both youthful and lived in, and Phoenix can do melodramatic villain very well. Remember his Commodus in Gladiator? If he’d have had a mustache he’d have twirled it. I think the same will probably be said of Bruno Weiss. (This is, of course, all conjecture based on the brief synopsis and the pics we’ve gotten from the set.)

Speaking of pics, I’m loving Phoenix’s bowler and Cotillard’s vaudeville costume, especially the velvet wrapper she’s bundled up in. It must have been very cold in Brooklyn the past few days. Even with the velvet, Cotillard is alternately swaddled in a blanket or someone’s down coat between takes. There’s no information currently available on Untitled James Gray Project’s release date, but hopefully we’ll have a title when there is.

Marvelous Marvel News and Hi-Res Stills from The Avengers!

Marvelous Marvel News and Hi-Res Stills from The Avengers!

Marvel Studios has delivered some news about its upcoming slate.  Following on the heels of this year’s The Avengers, they have on deck Iron Man 3 with a  May 3, 2013 release date, as well as Thor 2 on November 15, 2013. Signs are pointing toward Captain America 2 in early 2014, but nothing’s been confirmed yet.

I know it seems like it’s been ages since we got any The Avengers goodies from Marvel, but today we have (thanks to ComicBookMovie) five hi-res official stills, including Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury, up close and personal.  (That is some vicious looking scar.)

From Marvel’s press release:

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012.

Teaser Poster and a First Look at Jeremy Renner in The Bourne Legacy!

Teaser Poster and a First Look at Jeremy Renner in The Bourne Legacy!

Universal has released the first teaser poster for Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy, the first Bourne film without Matt Damon as Jason Bourne.  We also have a first look at Jeremy Renner as Bourne’s successor, Aaron Cross. The poster doesn't tell us much, it is after all, just a teaser, but it's nice that we're finally getting something on this film.

Not much else is known about the plot, other than that it’s still about a CIA operative and is based on the world created by Robert Ludlam’s novels. The script was written by the director (who, by the way, wrote all three previous Bourne films, and is responsible from some of the smartest movies of the last decade – State of Play, Duplicity, Michael Clayton to name but a few) and his brother Dan Gilroy, so I think the franchise is in good hands.

The Bourne Legacy also stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn and Stacy Keach. That’s a great cast.  The film will be released August 3 in the US and Canada and 17th August in the UK.

More Posters and Pics from The Avengers!

More Posters and Pics from The Avengers!

More shiny new images of everyone's favorite gang of super heroes, The Avengers! Yay! *demented poodle dance* Joss Whedon's eagerly awaited tie-in with Marvel's Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Thor movies arrives in theaters next May, but in movie promotion terms, that's right around the corner. We have another new batch of character posters for Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Bruce Banner aka The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), not an actual super hero, but rather the director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D.

We also have a couple of the Russian versions of the posters as well as a few new stills.

The premise:  An unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., finds themselves in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.   (dun dun DUN!)

The Avengers hits screens everywhere in 3D and 2D on May 4, 2012. (For reasons unknown to me, the 3D is a post-conversion.) Isn’t it about time for a new trailer? A clip? A tv spot maybe? C’mon Joss, you know you want to.

Tom Cruise & Co Bring Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol to NY!

Tom Cruise & Co Bring Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol to NY!

The Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol World Tour rolled into New York last night, beginning the final leg of the media blitzkrieg at the Ziegfeld Theater (where else) on Monday December 19. Tom Cruise, looked very dapper indeed in a suit that matched wife Katie Holmes’ dress (love the pocket square). In the pic at the top, Katie looks like she lost a tooth but I chose it because I love the way ole Tommy is looking at her.  (Call me crazy, but I think they look happy. ) Costars Simon Pegg, Michael Nyqvist, Anil Kapoor and Josh Holloway all joined director Brad Bird on the red carpet.

Of course, no one is having as much fun on this press junket as Paula Patton. With or without hubs Robin Thicke (who she clearly missed the past couple of weeks), Paula was all smiles, giggles and girlish tics.

Then there’s our newest crush, Jeremy Renner (love the pinstripes!), who practically steals the movie out from under one of the world’s biggest stars. If he’s been hand-picked to take over this franchise (eventually), just as he’s Matt Damon’s successor in the Bourne series, then I think it will be in good hands.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is out in IMAX now. It opens in regular theaters tomorrow December 21.  Next stop LA tonight! (More pics tomorrow!)
