We have a new clip from 21 Jump Street with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill just perfect for your Friday morning viewing pleasure. I really should not have laughed at this. I know it and I feel dirty about it, but I did. Sitting here in my office, I had to clap my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing out loud. I also have to admit that Tatum-tot continues to grow on me. This may in fact be a role that fits him like a glove. And after his somber turn in Moneyball, aren’t we just glad to see Jonah Hill being a goof ball?

Here’s the synopsis so that you can put the clip into some sort of context (if you must):

“In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.”

21 Jump Street also stars Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Ellie Kemper, Rob Riggle, and reportedly a cameo from Johnny Depp  (of the original 80s TV series). It opens March 16 in the US, Canada and the UK.

We brought you some great pics from last night’s red carpet in front of the 65^th annual BAFTA  Awards and told you about Miss Piggy’s debut as a celebrity interviewer of celebrities, and apparently she was a big hit. We just found some footage and I have to share it with you.  Gary Oldman told her she was “the most sincere person I’ve met on this line so far”

Miss Piggy, who looked lovely in custom-made Louis Vuitton,  lined up a new film with Jessica Chastain (a “buddy comedy”), thought The Help was a remake of a Beatles movie (and told Octavia Spencer she was  a good Ringo) and talked, and shamelessly flirted, with the likes of Michael Fassbender and got flirted with by Jonah Hill, who demanded a kiss, and Adam Deacon who asked her for a date. Tom Hiddleston seemed genuinely, and very sweetly, star-struck.

Of course La Porker, whose real name is Pigathia although she told Daniel Radcliffe to call her “Miss”, saved her affections for Jon Hamm (even if she didn’t get the joke).

I suppose 21 Jump Street was as good a candidate as any for the 80s nostalgia makeover from drama to comedy, although I don’t know anyone who was exactly clamoring for it. And it’s not like Johnny Depp (who is now just a tad more well known now than he was say, twenty-one years ago when he left the show) was going to put in a cameo for this ill-conceived project. They could probably have gotten Depp-lite…I mean Richard Grieco. He was probably available. 

So I guess the tongue-in-cheek approach that co-directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord  (it took two people to bring this puppy in!) took is the best one. After having watched the two previous trailers (one green, one red), I have to say the damn thing is growing on me. Even Channing Tatum-tot seems to be not only in on the joke, but perfectly suited to the material. Jonah Hill is still best taken in small doses (IMHO) but again, he’s perfect for this. And Nick Offerman’s police captain gets funnier every time. He needs to work more anyway.

21 Jump Street, costarring Ice Cube, Ellie Kemper, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle and Dave Franco opens in theaters March 16 everywhere.

We have new images to share from a lot of films you’ll be hearing more about in the new year, from the just announced Sundance line-up there’s Lay the Favorite with Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta Jones and Rebecca Hall, Celeste and Jesse Forever with Andy Samberg, Rashida Jones and Elijah Wood and Goats with Vera Farmiga, David Duchovny and Ty Burrell.

“An adventurous young woman (Hall) gets involved with a group of geeky older men who have found a way to work the sportsbook system in Las Vegas to their advantage.”

“Celeste and Jesse (Jones and Samberg) met in high school, married young, and at 30, decide to get divorced but remain best friends while pursuing other relationships.”

 “Ellis (Graham Phillips) leaves his unconventional desert home to attend the disciplined and structured Gates Academy. There, he re-connects with his estranged father (Duchovny) and for the first time questions the family dynamics.”

We have first looks at Sam Worthington in Wrath of the Titans, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill in Neighborhood Watch as well as Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.  That one is definitely on my list for 2012. This one seems more in line with “Grimm” than “Once Upon a Time” if you get my drift. The cast includes Famke Jenssen and Peter Stormare with a script by Dante Harper and Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola making his English language debut.

The film uses the original Brothers Grimm tale as the jumping off point.

“15 years after their traumatic gingerbread-house incident, siblings Hansel and Gretel have become a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.”  Oh yes. I’m there.

“Perseus (Worthington) embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, who has been targeted for capture by his traitorous son, Ares, and his brother, Hades.”

“Suburban dads form a neighborhood watch group to get time away from their families, only to discover a plot to destroy Earth.”

…in which case, I’m here to oblige. 20th Century Fox has released the third trailer for The Sitter, which descends upon theaters December 9.  I’m posting this third trailer with Jonah Hill as the world’s worst babysitter since Louise Woodward, purely as a public service.  Do not be fooled by the cute little children. They are merely foul mouthed adults in miniature form. Do not be fooled by the presence of Jonah Hill (if you’re a fan. Be warned by it if you’re not.)

Synopsis: A comedy about a college student on suspension who is coaxed into babysitting the kids next door, though he is fully unprepared for the wild night ahead of him.

The Sitter is directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express and some really good little indies that no one ever saw) and stars Hill, Ari Graynor, Sam Rockwell, Jessica Hecht, Method Man, Erin Daniels, Dreama Walker and Max Records.

There’s a 2^nd red-band trailer out for David Gordon Green’s The Sitter with Jonah Hill. From what I’ve seen so far, this plays like an over-the-top-raunchy version of that 80’s classic, Adventures in Babysitting (did the word “shart” even exist when Elizabeth Shue wa s in charge?), which as we all know, is just what the world needed.

Officially the synopsis is: A comedy about a college student on suspension who is coaxed into babysitting the kids next door, though he is fully unprepared for the wild night ahead of him.

There’s also an interactive “The Sitter Game” over at IGN if you’re interested.

Sam Rockwell, Max Records, Ari Graynor , D. W.Moffat, Jessica Hecht and JB Smoove co-star. The Sitter opens December 9 in the US & Canada but not until 22 June in the UK.  (I think that’s plenty of warning. You will owe us for taking this bullet.)
