There Are No Fokkers in Meet the Dwarves!

There Are No Fokkers in Meet the Dwarves!

Relativity has gifted us with a new featurette for Tarsem Singh’s Snow White project, Mirror Mirror. The title of the clip is “Meet the Dwarves” which is kind of a misnomer. We don’t actually get to see and hear them one on one to get their take on the characters etc. It’s more of an extended trailer that focuses on the dwarves.  The good news is that we get footage we have never seen before.

The editing here makes it appear that there is a huge element of slapstick involved in this film. I have to wonder if it is just the way this featurette is cut or whether that will be carried through.  (In any case, it’s still got more laughs than The Three Stooges.)

Lily Collins as Snow White will make a name for herself if Mirror Mirror is as successful as Relativity needs it to be.  Julia Roberts can be counted on for her star power and appears to be having so much fun, but the more I see of this, the more I’m convinced that the star of this movie and its saving grace is going to be Armie Hammer. Whoever cast him as Prince Andrew Alcott is a genius. Just sayin'.

Mirror Mirror opens in the US on March 30 and 2nd April in the UK.

You Have 1 Friend Request Pending: The Social Queen from Mirror Mirror

Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who's the Wackiest of Them All?

More Friday fun…

In preparation for the release of its big new film Mirror Mirror, Relativity Media  has unleashed a video suggesting how Julia Roberts’ wicked Queen would use social networking sights like Facebook, Twitter and Pnterest for things like gauging her popularity, keeping track of Snow White (Lily Collins) and of course stalking Prince Andrew Alcott (Armie Hammer).

Behold the “Social Queen”:

Mirror Mirror, directed by Tarsem Singh and written by Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher) also stars Nathan Lane, Mare Winningham, Michael Lerner, Robert Emms and Jordan Prentice. It opens in the US, Canada on March 30 (pay no attention to the date on the poster) and 6th April in the UK. (Thanks to MovieWeb for the video)

Shirtless Armie Hammer Stuns Julia Roberts in Mirror Mirror Featurette

Shirtless Armie Hammer Stuns Julia Roberts in Mirror Mirror Featurette

Armie Hammer is destined to be a movie star. He’s not a bad actor, but with his tall, athletic frame, blonde-haired, blue-eyed good looks and deep, melodic and patrician voice, he gets noticed, no matter the part or how well he performs it. In The Social Network, his breakout role actually consisted of two parts. He played both of the Winklevoss twins (or “the Winklevi” as Jesse Eisenberg’s Mark Zuckerberg referred to them.) His next high profile role earned him a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Clyde Tolson in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar. Next year, he will take on the title role of The Lone Ranger in director Gore Verbinski’s on again/off again/on again version of that tale, with Johnny Depp as his Tonto. (Actually filming finally began about two weeks ago.) But frankly, I can think of no better use for his charms than to play Prince Charming.

Hammer plays Prince Andrew Alcott in Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror, the big box of Crayolas-colored fun-fest version of the two dueling Snow White stories out this Spring. In order for us to get to know the Prince, Relativity has gifted us with a character profile which you can watch below.

I was so skeptical about this movie, and even after the first trailer I wasn’t sure what it was I was looking at. Was it camp or are they playing it straight? Well, it’s somewhere in between, but it’s grown on me. The cast is too likeable not to give this a shot. In addition to Hammer, we have Julia Roberts as the Queen and she is so obviously having such a good time that she’ll take us all with her. Lily Collins is Snow White and the supporting cast includes Nathan Lane, Sean Bean, Michael Lerner, Mare Winningham, Robert Emms and Jordan Prentice as Napoleon. (Prentice played Jimmy in In Bruges, one of my favorite movies of the last ten years.)

Mirror Mirror is like Lucky Charms: The Movie

Mirror Mirror is like Lucky Charms: The Movie

…or maybe it's Skittles. At any rate, I’ve got some sugary candy-colored marshmallow treats for your Saturday morning. Put ‘em in a bowl with your cereal and turn the milk purple!  I jest. What I have is a whole big bunch of brand new images that Relativity has gifted us with from Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror, including our first look at Sean Bean as The King!

The official press release:

One of the most beloved stories of all time comes to life in the spectacular motion picture event Mirror Mirror, starring Lily Collins as Snow White and Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts as the evil Queen. A fresh and funny retelling of the classic fairy tale, the film also stars Armie Hammer as the Prince, Sean Bean as the King, and Nathan Lane as the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton.

After a beloved King vanishes, his ruthless wife seizes control of the kingdom and keeps her beautiful 18-year-old stepdaughter, Snow White, hidden away in the palace. But when the princess attracts the attention of a charming and wealthy visiting prince, the jealous Queen banishes the girl to a nearby forest.

Taken in by a band of rebellious but kindhearted dwarfs, Snow White blossoms into a brave young woman determined to save her country from the Queen. With the support of her new friends, she roars into action to reclaim her birthright and win back her Prince in this magical adventure comedy that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over.

Mirror Mirror stars Julia Robert, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane, Sean Bean, Mare Winningham and Michael Lerner, with Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants), Jordan Prentice (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen), Sebastian Saraceno (Bedtime Stories), Ronald Lee Clark (Epic Movie), Martin Klebba (Pirates of The Caribbean) and Joe Gnoffo (The Benchwarmers) as the Seven Dwarfs.

Tarsem Singh (Immortals, The Cell) directs from a screenplay by Marc Klein (Serendipity) and Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher) from a screen story by Melisa Wallack (Meet Bill).

Costume designer is Oscar-winner Eiko Ishioka (Immortals, Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula). Original music is by Oscar-winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin).

Mirror Mirror opens March 30 in the US and 2nd April in the UK! Enjoy the pics!

Who Has the Fairest TV Spot of Them All: Mirror Mirror That’s Who

Who Has the Fairest TV Spot of Them All: Mirror Mirror That's Who

Tarsem Singh’s bright Crayola and Skittles- colored version of Snow White, Mirror Mirror, has been growing on me lately, with all of the trailers and posters we’ve been getting. They seem to have finally gotten the idea across that it’s meant to be a comedy and isn’t just campy (although I’m not leaving out the possibility that it’s both).  The new poster above seems to be going for Disney-esque family friendly fun. Everything I’ve seen also tells me I’m right in assuming that Julia Roberts had a blast playing the Evil Queen. Watch this first tv spot (courtesy of ComingSoon) and tell me I’m wrong.

The film  stars Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as an exiled princess who enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright and Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts as an evil Queen who steals control of a kingdom, in a magical adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over. The film also stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the object of their affection, Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen

Mirror Mirror hits theaters in the UK on 16th March, hi-ho-ing it to the US on March 30

Mirror Mirror Gets A New Date, New International Trailer

Big Cache of Behind-the-Scenes Pics from Mirror Mirror!

Just the other day I mentioned that Mirror Mirror, Tarsem Singh's  take on the whole Snow White thing, was opening on March 16, well ahead of the June 1 release for that othe Snow White movie. Well, apparently not.

Relativity announced yesterday that Mirror Mirror will move to March 30, and will now open against The Wrath of the Titans.  The move follows another Relativity schedule shuffle, as they moved the John Cusack, Edgar Allan Poe murder mystery,The Raven, back to April 27. The Mirror Mirror move is to put the film closer to Easter weekend (which makes sense. It looks light and fluffy and fairly kid friendly. It will certainly have a different target audience than WotT) Disney's John Carter scared off The Raven.

Along with the move announcement, Relativity has released a new trailer for the international market, featuriing some new footage but still emphasizing the lighthearted humor as well as the adventure. (It's interesting that both new Snow White stories emphasize Snow's empowerment but one where one is light, the other dark.) I don't know, maybe it won't be so bad afterall.

Mirror Mirror stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Nathan Lane and oh yeah, Sean Bean as the King!

Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who’s the Wackiest of Them All?

Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who's the Wackiest of Them All?

Mirror Mirror is the candy colored, cartoonish version of the Snow White story coming to theaters this Spring. The one being distributed by Relativity starring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts and NOT starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.

At this stage, I think it's important we keep them straight in our minds, although since Mirror Mirror is coming out in March and that other one in June, one could see them both.

Thanks to ParentsConnect (via ComingSoon) we have a mini featurette wherein Lily Collins talks about her version of the Snow White character. She describes her as "modern". I just hope the song playing underneath this thing isn't actually  going to be in the movie.

So, is this supposed to be a comedy? I'm confused. I want to like it, I really do. I like Nathan Lane. Armie Hammer certainly looks like a charming prince and Julia Roberts seems to be having enough fun to almost carry this thing on her own, but I'm still looking forward to that other Snow White movie more than this one. We'll see. Mirror Mirror opens in the US, Canada and the UK on March 16

Big Cache of Behind-the-Scenes Pics from Mirror Mirror!

Big Cache of Behind-the-Scenes Pics from Mirror Mirror!

We have a bunch of cool behind-the-scenes pics (and 1 new still) taken during the making of Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror. This version of the Snow White tale is going a more traditional route than that of Snow White and the Huntsman. (Traditional in terms of what the public is used to, more Disney-esque, let’s say. SWTH is closer to the dark side of the Grimm tale.) The pics seem to center around scenes taking place in a snow covered birch forest, which is actually a soundstage, with Snow (Lily Collins) and Brighton (Nathan Lane).

Lily Collins will not be wearing armor nor fighting battles, and the dwarves appear to be played by actual Little People (The actors are Jordan Prentice, Joey Gnoffo, Sabastian Saraceno, Martin Klebba, Mark Provinelli, Ronald Lee Clark and Danny Woodburn. No word yet if any of them are grumpy, happy or sleepy), but the first trailer looked stunningly campy. Julia Roberts looked to be having a blast as the Evil Queen, but Armie Hammer looked like he was wondering how he’d gone from The Social Network to J. Edgar to this.

Mirror Mirror stars, in addition to Collins, Roberts, Hammer and Nathan Lane, Mare Winningham, Michael Lerner and Sean Bean as the King *swoon*. Relativity will release it March 16 making it the first out of the gate, but will it be forgotten by June 1 when Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth charge into theaters?
