It Ain’t Easy Being Flynn – De Niro and Dano Demonstrate in New Clips!

Being Flynn with Robert DeNiro Gets A Poster and a Trailer!

I’ve been seeing the trailer for Being Flynn in the theater a lot recently. That may be because I live in Boston and it is set and was filmed here. In fact, there is a premiere next week that is a benefit for a local homeless shelter. Paul Dano and director Paul Weitz are expected to attend. (Unfortunately, I couldn’t get tickets, but that means it’s sold out, which is good news for the shelter.) Being Flynn is written and directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy, American Pie), the film is based on the award-winning memoir by Nick Flynn called “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City”. (Oh how I wish they’d kept that title. That would get butts in seats) Thanks to Yahoo Movies we have three new clips to share  in which we get to see Nick Flynn (Dano) and his beyond-dysfunction relationship with his father, Jonathan (Robert De Niro).

“Nick Flynn is shocked to have his eccentric and long-absent father, Jonathan reach out to him unexpectedly. Still feeling the loss of his mother in the midst of starting a new relationship with Denise (Olivia Thirlby), the last person Nick wants to see is his father. But you can’t outrun fate and slowly Nick comes to realize he has been given the chance to make a real future not only for himself, but for his struggling father too.”

“Circumstances”:

“Vocation”:

Being Flynn gets a limited release in the US on March 2. I suspect it will be on VOD shortly thereafter.

New Pics of De Niro and Dano as father and son in Being Flynn

Being Flynn with Robert DeNiro Gets A Poster and a Trailer!

Being Flynn is a film we first talked about last November when the first trailer was released. (I was happy to finally know what De Niro was in Boston filming last year. I need to follow OLV more closely!) It stars Robert De Niro and Paul Dano as father and son, both writers, with a troubled, to say the least, relationship. I have to say, I love the tag line: ““We're all works in progress”. We have some great new images from the film below.

Working in a Boston homeless shelter, Nick Flynn, a writer in his twenties and trying to find his own voice, re-encounters his father, a con man and brilliant self-proclaimed poet. Sensing trouble in his own life, Nick wrestles with the notion of reaching out yet again to his dad. Julianne Moore plays Nick’s mother, who raised him alone.

Director Chris Weitz, best known for About a Boy with Hugh Grant, adapted Flynn’s novel for the screen. Being Flynn stars De Niro, Dano, Moore, Olivia Thirlby, Lili Taylor, Billy Wirth and Dale Dickey. Focus Features is releasing Being Flynn in the US on March 2.

First Look at McCain and Palin in Game Change for HBO!

First Look at McCain and Palin in Game Change for HBO!

Game Change is a made for HBO-movie about John McCain’s selection of then (unknown) Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate during the 2008 Presidential Campaign.  Julianne Moore plays Palin and Ed Harris plays Sen. McCain. The likenesses are scary. In fact, Moore is almost as good as Tina Fey. Check out the teaser below.

The film is directed by Jay Roach of Austin Powers franchise fame, Meet the Parents and its spawn as well as Dinner for Schmucks. He also directed Recount for HBO in which Laura Dern did a crazy scary Katherine Harris. Game Change was written by Danny Strong (Recount), from a book by Mark Halperin. It also stars Woody Harrelson as McCain's campaign manager Steve Schmidt, along with Sarah Paulson, Peter MacNicol, Ron Livingston, Jamey Sheridan, Bruce Altman and Alex Hyde-White.  Game Change premieres on HBO in March.

Being Flynn with Robert DeNiro Gets A Poster and a Trailer!

Being Flynn with Robert DeNiro Gets A Poster and a Trailer!

We’ve got the first trailer for Paul Weitz’s Being Flynn with Robert De Niro, Paul Dano and Julianne Moore. How is it possible I had not heard a single thing about a movie with a cast like that, one based on a best-selling memoir, Nick Flynn’s “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City”, no less?  (I wish they’d had the balls to keep the book’s title. The film’s rated R anyway.) At least I finally know what De Niro was doing here in Boston this past Spring. I need to pay more attention to these things!

Nick Flynn (Dano) is a writer in his twenties, trying to find his voice, who works at various homeless shelters in Boston, where he often intersects with his brilliant but troubled father (De Niro). Moore plays Nick’s mother, who raised him alone. Check out the trailer.

Weitz, best known for About a Boy with Hugh Grant, knows his way around comedic drama or dramatic comedy, however you want to look at it. Being Flynn with De Niro, Dano, Moore, Olivia Thirlby, Lili Taylor, Billy Wirth and Dale Dickey. We have the first trailer and the first poster, but only the vague release info of “2012”.

Julianne Moore is the New Sarah Palin

Julianne Moore has taken on a very new role.  She’s going to be Sarah Palin for the HBO flick, Game Change.  This is a movie about the 2008 presidential election.

The movie is based on the book (same title) and we haven’t heard who’s playing John McCain yet.  Who do you think would do a good McCain?

The Kids Are All Right Premieres In New York

I didn’t find that election very movie worthy…. but perhaps that’s why it’s an HBO movie and not something that could stand up in a theatrical release.

‘A Single Man’ Premieres in Paris

full_a_single_man_020_wenn5427431

Tom Ford premiered his movie A Single Man in Paris yesterday with the stars of the movie Julianne Moore and Colin Firth.  They were joined by Kylie Minogue and some of Tom’s designer pals including Karl Lagerfeld and a bunch of others whose names I don’t know.

Aren’t I just the most informed celebrity gossip blogger ever?  When you lounge around in your pyjamas all day in your basement, designer labels don’t come up on the old radar too often.

And for those of you who love Colin Firth (and I know who you are) I’ve included a few extra pictures of him.  You are welcome.

Emily Blunt @BAFTA/LA Tea Party

wenn2713015

It was tea time for Emily Blunt and others as they attended the BAFTA/LA 16th Annual Awards Season Tea Party. This small, intimate invited only get together took place at the Beverly Hills hotel where everyone relaxed before tonight’s Golden Globe Awards.

The Golden Globes is probably one of my most favourite award shows because the atmosphere is very relaxed (could be the alcohol) and of course Ricky Gervais will be hosting and considering he says he hasn’t practised his hosting duties, this could be fun and highly inappropriate.  When I’m in an especially naughty mood, me loves inappropriate.

Attending the tea party:

  • Alison Brie
  • Talulah Riley
  • Olivia Williams
  • Claire Danes
  • Maggie Gyllenhaal
  • Anna Kendrick
  • Quentin Tarantino
  • Paul McCartney
  • Jane Fonda
  • Julianne Moore
  • Tom Ford
  • Helen Mirren
  • Amanda Righetti
  • Ben Foster
  • Gabourey Sidibe
  • Ed Westwick
  • Eli Roth
  • Kevin McHale
  • Jessica Szohr

and lots others.
