What to Watch: This Week on DVD and Blu-Ray

New Creepy TV spots for Contagion!

It's a very Kate Winslet week on home video. We've already told you about HBO's Mildred Pierce, but she's also got Steven Soderbergh's star-studded medical disaster flick, Contagion available on dvd, blu-ray and two disc combo pack starting today, January 3. We talked about it extensively prior to its theatrical release, but in case you missed it, Contagion is an action-thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease, apparently being spread by birds (don't we have an actual 'bird-flu'? Is this a more virulent strain? Can I get vaccinated for this? OMG, I'm already paranoid!) and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak. It stars Winslet, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard and Laurence Fishburne.  Fun stuff! You'll want to douse yourself in Purell and live in a bubble by the end of it!

Special Features include

 - Contagion: How A Virus Changes The World

- The Reality of Contagion

- The Contagion Detectives

This is actually a pretty good week if you've a mind to watch movies in the comfort of your home. Puncture, which we've talked about recently, starring Chris Evans, is out today as well. Puncture is a legal drama about a drug-addicted lawyer who takes on a health supply corporation while battling his own personal demons. It costars Michael Biehn, Brett Cullen, Vinessa Shaw, one of the directors, Mark Kassan and Jesse L. Martin.

The complete list of this week's releases:

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (Katie Holmes, Rated R)

The Guard ( Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Mark Strong Rated R) I HIGHLY recommend this one (expect to see it on my Year End Favorites LIst) You probably missed it at the theater in its very limited release. It's a black comedy about the worst policeman in Ireland, played by Gleason, who teams up with an American FBI agent (Cheadle) to thwart some drug smugglers played by Strong, Liam Cunningham and David Wilmot.

Intriguing Trailer for Son of No One!

First Poster for Son of No One with Channing Tatum!

Okay all you Tatum Heads or CouchPoTatums or whatever you call yourselves, I still don't get it, but I may be willing to give this one a chance. We have a first trailer for Son of No One, directed by Dito Montiel (FightingA Guide to Recognizing Your Saints - both with Channing Tatum. I'm seeing a pattern here) that we first told you about with a poster well over a month ago. Not much else has come out, but now it's getting a final push before it opens. Aside from the aforementioned Mr. Tatum,  Son of No One has a rather impressive cast, including Ray Liotta, Katie Holmes, Tracy Morgan (in a dramatic role in which he appears to be less annoying than usual), "with" (which usually means teeny tiny part) Juliette Binoche and Al Pacino.

The imdb synopsis: "A young cop is assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, and an old secret threatens to destroy his life and his family."

I love a good cop movie and even though I'm not really a fan of Channing Tatum, this one has a pretty good premise, even if I'm relatively certain I've worked it all out from the trailer. The ride might be fun. Son of No One opens November 4 in the US, against Tower Heist and A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas. Things that make you go "hmmm".

Katie Holmes Throws Tom A Surprise Party

Katie Holmes 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark' Premiere

Katie Holmes 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark' Premiere

Tom Cruise is about to turn the big 5-0.  Well, in a year.  This weekend he turned 49 and his young wife Katie Holmes threw him a surprise birthday party in Miami at the fabulous Soho House.  Suri was of course there along with Tom’s kids Isabella and Connor.

Katie invited 40 guests, who enjoyed  Italian cuisine and a delicious chocolate cake for dessert, the New York Post is reporting.

I think it’s sweet that Katie is still playing the doting wife.  I just wonder how real any of this really is?

Katie Holmes Has Some Words For The “Haters”

And her words are very few.  Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are always under the celebrity microscope.  That is to be expected.  But given the fact that they have their 4 year old, Suri out at 1 am for dinners, playing with penis-shaped candies, wearing heels and red lipstick, not to mention the pacifier she is still seen with publicly, things are a bit different for this little family.

Suri Cruise Has An Addiction

Katie was approached at the John Frieda Precision Foam Colour event Tuesday night in NYC,  and when asked if she was tired of her parenting being critiqued, she said “no” then  added, “Suri is doing great, thank you.”

But you want to know who is really concerned?  Katie’s parents.  They are so not on board with Tom’s Scientology and their lack of boundaries for Suri.  Who can blame them?

What do you think?  Are Tom and Katie doing a good job?  Or could you give them a few lessons on parenting?

Suri Cruise Has An Addiction

It’s called a pacifier….. binkie…. you know…..  Well, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have one of Hollywood most adorable kiddos. Suri Cruise.  She’s such a doll.  A doll that comes under fire from the press and fans on a pretty regular basis.

Mommy and daddy let her wear high heels and lipstick.  Katie loves to brag about Suri’s ability to pick out her wardrobe.  She’s beyond her years.  Well, little Suri is getting big now.  She’s turning five next month.  Woo hoo!  Well then, why is she strutting down the street with a pacifier in her mouth?  Did she put on the red lipstick before or after she put it in her mouth.

NEW Trailer: Katie Holmes ‘The Kennedys’ (Gave Me Chills)

I know.  I know.  It’s not our business how they raise their kid.  BUT, I can’t help but wonder if they are confusing the poor thing.  Yes, it’s okay to wear lipstick, high heels, and no coat in the winter days on the street.  But it’s also fine to suck on a pacifier on your way to kindergarten?

I hate confusing kids.  Why can’t they just be normal?  Oh wait, this is Tom Cruise.  I get it now.

NEW Trailer: Katie Holmes ‘The Kennedys’ (Gave Me Chills)

Now that Katie Holmes‘ eight-part miniseries, The Kennedys has found a home, it’s time to start promoting the April 3rd premiere on the Reelz Channel.

Katie Holmes “Crushed” By Movie Critics

Here is a brand new look on what I believe will be a hit “show” that everyone needs to see.  When the History Channel is turning it down, as well as other networks, there is a reason, and that reason makes it a must see show.

Have a look at the newly released trailer below and tell me if that alone doesn’t inspire you to watch the entire thing.

See what I mean?

Katie Holmes and The Kennedys Find a Home

So the History Channel total bagged Katie Holmes and the $30 million miniseries, The Kennedys.  I thought that was total BS and a complete slap in the face to the entire cast and crew, along with American history in general.  But, I will hold back and not totally go “there.”

They tried to find the show a home and were having no luck until cable network ReelzChannel picked it up.  The show is now set to premiere on April 3.

ReelzChannel CEO Stan Hubbard said,

“One of the benefits of being an independent network is that you can be an independent voice and you don’t have to worry about corporate pressure or political pressure,. This is a project that deserves to be seen.”

I completely agree.  I just am not too sure who’s even heard of this channel?

Katie Holmes “Crushed” By Movie Critics

Katie Holmes is getting brutalized at the Sundance Film Festival.  Her role in The Son of No One has been made into a complete mockery and she’s hurt.

One of the producers has come to her defense,

“Despite Katie’s few scenes, she was fantastic in the role!” producer and sales agent Cassian Elwes tells UsMagazine. “We’ve already received three offers on the film. We’re 100 percent behind her and the entire cast’s performances in this film.”

Katie Holmes is the New Face of Ann Taylor (Someone Tell Her to Smile)

There were reports that people were leaving the film before it was even finished showing.  But apparently someone flipped the lights on two scenes before it was over, so people left.

“There wasn’t a mass exodus,” says Elwes. “The people who did see it, liked the film.  She loves the film and she’s great in it.  She’s very upset by this attack.”

I would like to point out that if I was watching a movie and I liked it, I wouldn’t leave just because the lights came on.  But nonetheless, I will wait to judge the movie until I have seen it for myself.  It can’t be that bad, can it?
