Lara Stone is the face of the Calvin Klein Jeans campaign and the latest set of billboard ads has sparked a huge controversy that ended with the ads being banned in Australia.

Their Advertising Standards Bureau spoksperson said,

“The Board considered that whilst the act depicted could be consensual, the overall impact and most likely impression is that the scene is suggestive of violence and rape.  The Board considered that the image was demeaning to women by suggesting that she is a plaything of these men.  It also demeans men by implying sexualised violence against women.”

I can understand where actual victims would be offended by the ads.  But the Calvin Klein jeans label is clearly just sexing up the campaign, which is actually very normal for the label.  To me the ad suggests an orgy… doesn’t make me want to buy jeans…. just have a nice shag….

The six other nekkid supermodels featured are: Amber Valletta, Lara Stone, Natalia Vodianova, Daria Werbowy, Jeneil Williams and Kristen McMenamy, all with exercise cables photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

“For this issue of LOVE, we took eight women who are generally acknowledged as the most beautiful in the world, got them to show off their bodies – widely regarded as the most beautiful in the world – and photographed them all in exactly the same position for the cover,”

“We did this to show how much they differed physically from one another, which is why we also printed their measurements. The point is that ‘perfection’ is not fixed, timeless or transcendent. It varies, as the measurements of our cover girls show”
