Feel the Wrath…of the Hairdresser!

Feel the Wrath...of the Hairdresser!

Seriously, what's up with Sam Worthington's hair in that poster? (Remember the line in Steel Magnolias about the "brown football helmet"? No? Trust me it's in there.) Anyway, whatever is on Perseus' head looks a bit…bouffant. I hope it's a trick of photoshop since I'm pretty sure the ancient Greeks didn't have AquaNet. But as usual, I digress.

Actually, I like the new posters for Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to 2009's, Clash of the Titans. (They've clashed, now they're pissed.) I'm hoping we get other character posters as well, before the movie opens in March. The sequel already seems to be a huge improvement on the earlier film, Worthington's hair notwithstanding.

The synopsis once again ( Greek word by the way…okay I'll stop): A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington), the demigod son of Zeus (Liam Neeson), is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez *humina humina*), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

I cannot wait to see Bill Nighy as Hephaestus! The Wrath of the Titans opens March 30 in those places where it didn't open on March 29.

Lots of New Images from Wrath of the Titans!

Lots of New Images from Wrath of the Titans!

We have new pics from Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to 2010’s Clash of the Titans, featuring star Sam Worthington who reprises his role as Perseus. He’s promised not to suck in this one.  We also have some scans including first looks at Edgar Ramirez as Ares and Toby Kebbell as Argenor plus Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes who return as Zeus and Hades. Set ten years after the events of Clash…, the film revolves around Perseus and his relationship with both his son, Helius and his father, Zeus.

The synopsis:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus.

I’m guessing they’ll save mankind so that some angry God or Gods can threaten it again in Something of the Titans 3

Wrath of the Titans opens, in the prerequisite 3D of course, in the US, Canada and the UK on March 30, which is not far away at all. Stay tuned. Enjoy the pics courtesy of LatinoReview via HeyUGuys and the scans courtesy of Empire via ComicBookMovie)

Liam Neeson Wants You to Take a Flying Leap: Clip from The Grey

Liam Neeson Wants You to Take a Flying Leap: Clip from The Grey

Director of The Grey, Joe Carnahan announced yesterday that his new thriller starring Liam Neeson would be back in the fall for an awards qualifying run. Technically, that's not necessary. As long as the movie opens on both coasts for at least a week between January and December, it's eligible. What he means is, they'll be bringing it back so that come next awards season, it will be remembered. Apparently, The Grey wasn't dumped among the usual January film detritus, it's actually good. Carnahan has been touting Neeson's performance for a long time. He wants to make sure his star gets his due. Whether you love Carnahan's films (The A-TeamNarcSmokin' Aces – he also wrote Pride and Glory, which I loved) or hate them, he knows how to do action and judging by what we see here, there will be plenty of action. While the trailers seem to focus on Liam Neeson vs wolves and the elements, I'm thinking it's the latter that's going to provide the most drama. The clip below shows Neeson giving Dallas Roberts a last minute pep-talk before the latter takes a flying leap over a cliff. I can't wait to see that in the context of the film. I'd probably have to be heavily medicated in order to take that plunge.

Synopsis: A group of oil-rig roughnecks are left stranded on the sub-arctic tundra after their plane experiences a complete mechanical failure and crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. The survivors, battling mortal injuries, biting cold and ravenous hunger, are relentlessly hunted and pursued by a vicious pack of rogue wolves.

The Grey opens in the US and the UK on January 27.

Okay ,This is More Like It! Red-Band Trailer for The Grey!

First Poster for The Grey with Liam Neeson!

A new red-band trailer for Joe Carnahan’s The Grey has just dropped and it amps up the tension and the fear about 1000% from the green band version with the tinkling piano music playing underneath it that we’ve been watching since summer. It’s red-band for some language (quite a few F-bombs) and some gore but it looks more like what you’d expect from a group of men lost in the wilderness facing a pack of hungry wolves.

The Grey: Redband Trailer – Watch More Funny Videos

Does that rock or what?!  Frankly, that’s just what I needed as an antidote to those craptastic Oscar nominations.  I needed to be slapped back to the reality that there are films made without the expectation of awards, but for the pure enjoyment of moviegoers, made by people who work just as hard and are just as talented as those that get recognized for their achievements.  Bottom line, I love the movies. And I’m definitely seeing this one this weekend.

The Grey opens in the US and the UK on January 27

World Premiere for The Grey in LA

World Premiere for The Grey in LA

…Hey that rhymes!

Joe Carnahan’s The Grey had its world premiere last night in LA at The Regal Theater LA Live. Stars Liam Neeson, James Badge Dale (Shame), Frank Grillo (Warrior) along with Dallas Roberts all came out, as did Maggie Grace, Neeson’s costar in Taken (and Taken 2), Kristen Bell and Minnie Driver, who I guess had nothing else to do on a Wednesday night.

Shouldn’t there be a rule that if you’re IN the movie being premiered that you have to put on a suit and make an effort? (That goes double for actors no one’s heard of and are getting a break by being IN the movie.) I didn’t say you had to wear a tie, just don’t show up looking like you just rolled out of bed. (I’m looking at you Joe Anderson. It’s LA. You’re not that cold.) Giles Marini, James Van Der Beek and Dermot Mulroney are not even IN the movie and they all look very presentable. Bradley Cooper, “Sexiest Man Alive” apparently no longer has to try. (He was on his way to The Weinstein Company party anyway, apparently that was a casual affair.)

Synopsis: In Alaska, an oil drilling team struggle to survive after a plane crash strands them in the wild. Hunting the humans are a pack of wolves who see them as intruders.

The Grey opens in the US, Canada and the UK  on January 27.

Spreading the Wrath! New Stills and Posters for Wrath of the Titans!

Spreading the Wrath! New Stills and Posters for Wrath of the Titans!

We just brought you the first trailer for Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to 2010’s Clash of the Titans, the week before Christmas. Today we have, thanks to Warner Brothers, ten new hi-res stills and four monster character posters to share! Two reasons to be hopeful about this film: One, that first trailer made the thing appear to be miles ahead of its predecessor. Starting with Liam Neeson’s voice as Zeus giving his half human son Perseus (Sam Worthington) some fatherly advice was a good idea, so was using Marilyn Manson’s cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams”.  Two, the movie was filmed in 3D as opposed to the (terrible) post-conversion done to the 2010 film. I don’t think I’ll ever be fully on board the 3D bandwagon, but if you’re going to do it, do it right.

Synopsis:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) –the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)–is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus.

Bill Nighy!Toby Kebbell! (last seen as one of the humans given a few minutes of screen time in that saccharin-infused War Horse. Spoiler: the horse stole the movie from every one of them) Edgar Ramirez! Ok, ya got me. I’ll pay to see Edgar Ramirez in 3D. Oh yeah, and the monsters look really cool too.

Wrath of the Titans, directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los AngelesThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) is unleashed March 30 in the US and the UK. Much more to come in the next three months I’m sure. Enjoy the new pics!
