Maggie Grace Needs Guy Pearce & His Big Gun in 1st Official Lockout Poster

Maggie Grace Needs Guy Pearce & His Big Gun in 1st Official Lockout Poster

Open Road Films urges you to check out the first official poster for Lockout, the action-packed sci-fi thriller from the producers of Taken. Wrongly convicted ex-government agent Snow (Guy Pearce) must rescue the President’s daughter (Maggie Grace) from a supposedly escape-proof outer space maximum security prison after it’s taken over by violent inmates.

SYNOPSIS:

Starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace and set in the near future, Lockout follows a falsely convicted ex-government agent (Pearce), whose one chance at obtaining freedom lies in the dangerous mission of rescuing the President’s daughter (Grace) from rioting convicts at an outer space maximum security prison.

From renowned action producer Luc Besson, Lockout stars Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace (Taken) and Peter Stormare (Fargo). Ignoring the obvious similarities between this and Escape from New York, this could be a lot of fun, especially if it contains as much cynical humor as displayed by Guy Pearce in the first trailers. The film will be in theaters everywhere on April 20, 2012.

Guy Pearce Even More of a Wise Ass in 1st Dom. Trailer for Lock-Out

Guy Pearce Even More of a Wise Ass in 1st Dom. Trailer for Lock-Out

We’ve had a couple of international trailers for Lock-Out, as well as a clip introducing Guy Pearce’s character, Snow. Today we have the first domestic trailer. It includes footage not in the other two trailers and definitely gives a clearer idea of what we’re in for.  The trouble is, I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

From the first, Lock-Out has felt derivative; like a remake of Escape from New York, if New York were a floating space prison, but the inclusion of Guy Pearce, not to mention Luc Besson’s involvement, had me excited about the possibilities. After watching the domestic trailer, the possibilities now include that the more I see of Lock-Out, the less I’m interested in viewing the actual film. (As opposed to Mirror Mirror which, the more I see of it, is growing on me.) Is Guy Pearce’s deadpan delivery of some snarky dialogue enough to carry 120 minutes filled with action movie clichés and yet another Maggie Grace damsel-in-distress? We’ll see. I’m still in for now.

The synopsis: A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Lock-Out, which also stars Peter Stormare, Vincent Regan and Lenny James, opens in the UK 13th April and the 20th in the US so I’m sure we’ll get another trailer, a few clips and a some tv spots before it does.

Meet Snow in New Featurette for MS One: Maximum Security!

Meet Snow in New Featurette for MS One: Maximum Security!

James Mather and Stephen St. Leger’s MS One: Maximum Security starring Guy Pearce (up for a Golden Globe Sunday night for Mildred Pierce) was formerly titled Lock-Out and last month we showed you the first trailers.  Now we have a featurette, again from France (courtesy of allcine.com). I still think that MS One: Maximum Security is the remake of Escape from New York that you didn’t know you wanted. (As opposed to the actual remake that thankfully seems to have been abandoned.) Just like the trailers, in this we get less of Guy Pearce getting a beat-down and a lot more of him being a wise-ass and the Snake Plissken allusions are loud and clear. I like it!

James Mather (making his feature film debut) directed from a script he cowrote with Exec. Producer Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, The Messengers, The Lady) and co-director Stephen St. Leger. It was originally called “Section Eight” and was to be in 3D, so the current title is its third and they’ve jettisoned the 3D. Yay!

Synopsis:

A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Costarring Maggie Grace as the President’s daughter (she always plays someone’s daughter and she’s usually in some sort of peril), Peter Stormare, Vincent Regan, Lennie James and Tim Plester, MS One: Maximum Security breaks into theaters 13th April in the UK and April 20 in the US.

World Premiere for The Grey in LA

World Premiere for The Grey in LA

…Hey that rhymes!

Joe Carnahan’s The Grey had its world premiere last night in LA at The Regal Theater LA Live. Stars Liam Neeson, James Badge Dale (Shame), Frank Grillo (Warrior) along with Dallas Roberts all came out, as did Maggie Grace, Neeson’s costar in Taken (and Taken 2), Kristen Bell and Minnie Driver, who I guess had nothing else to do on a Wednesday night.

Shouldn’t there be a rule that if you’re IN the movie being premiered that you have to put on a suit and make an effort? (That goes double for actors no one’s heard of and are getting a break by being IN the movie.) I didn’t say you had to wear a tie, just don’t show up looking like you just rolled out of bed. (I’m looking at you Joe Anderson. It’s LA. You’re not that cold.) Giles Marini, James Van Der Beek and Dermot Mulroney are not even IN the movie and they all look very presentable. Bradley Cooper, “Sexiest Man Alive” apparently no longer has to try. (He was on his way to The Weinstein Company party anyway, apparently that was a casual affair.)

Synopsis: In Alaska, an oil drilling team struggle to survive after a plane crash strands them in the wild. Hunting the humans are a pack of wolves who see them as intruders.

The Grey opens in the US, Canada and the UK  on January 27.

International Trailer for MS-One: Maximum Security (aka Lock-Out)!

Guy Pearce is Too Pretty to Have His Face Punched In - Watch the Trailer for Lock-Out!

James Mather and Stephen St. Leger’s MS One: Maximum Security starring Guy Pearce (just nominated for a SAG award for "Mildred Pierce") was formerly titled Lock-Out and last week we showed you the first teaser trailer.  Now we have the first feature trailer, again from France(courtesy of allcine.com) . Seems to me that this one makes it clear that MS One: Maximum Security is the remake of Escape from New York that you didn’t know you wanted.  In any case, we certainly know more about the plot after viewing this trailer than we did after the first. As an added bonus, there’s less of Guy Pearce getting a beat-down and more of being a wise-ass.

Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, The Messengers, The Lady) Executive Produced Director Mather  (making his feature film directorial debut) cowrote the screenplay with Stephen St. Leger and Besson. It was originally called “Section Eight” and was to be in 3D, so the current title is its third.

Synopsis: A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates

It didn’t hit me the first time I read that and certainly not from the first teaser, but with the new trailer, I think that the Snake Plissken allusions are definitely there.

Costarring Maggie Grace as the President’s daughter (she always plays someone’s daughter and she’s usually in some sort of peril), Vincent Regan, Lennie James and Tim Plester, MS One: Maximum Security breaks into theaters 13th April in the UK and April 20 in the US.

Guy Pearce is Too Pretty to Have His Face Punched In – Watch the Trailer for Lock-Out!

Guy Pearce is Too Pretty to Have His Face Punched In - Watch the Trailer for Lock-Out!

Before watching the trailer for James Mather’s sci-fi thriller Lock-Out, I had never heard of it, so it is safe to say I knew nothing about it. I’m not sure after watching this first look international trailer I know much more, other than I don’t like anyone beating on Guy Pearce. Maybe that’s just me. He apparently is having a ball. It is still kind of compelling. It goes from an empty room with Peter Stormare interrogating Pearce while playing with a lighter to full on action with space ships and explosions.

Luc Besson (whose The Lady is garnering awards attention this year) is Executive Producer and he knows a thing or two about sci-fi (The Fifth Element). Director Mather  (making his feature film directorial debut) cowrote the screenplay with Stephen St. Leger and Besson. It was originally called “Section Eight” and was to be in 3D.

Synopsis: A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Now that is a wacky premise. I like it.

Costarring Maggie Grace as the President’s daughter (she always plays someone’s daughter and she’s usually in some sort of peril), Vincent Regan, Lennie James and Tim Plester, Lock-Out breaks into theaters 13th April in the UK and April 20 in the US.
