New Poster and New TV Spot in Your Daily John Carter

New Poster and New TV Spot in Your Daily John Carter

Okay Disney… I am looking forward to John Carter more all the time, but I can’t keep up. You’ve had two years to dole this stuff out!  I’m kidding. Seriously, I am loving all of the bits we’ve been getting lately. A steady diet of this until March 9 is certainly encouraged.  Today we’ve got a new international poster, with the focus squarely on Taylor Kitsch as John Carter and a new tv spot.

I think I like this spot even more than the one for which Disney shelled out the big bucks to plonk down in the middle of the Super Bowl. In this new one minute dollop we learn a lot more about what’s going on plus we get a glimpse at more of the very cool special effects. The very expensive, very cool special effects. They'd better blow us away.

I’m actually beginning to contemplate seeing this in IMAX. After my experience with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, I’m much more open to the possibilities, however, that film was not in 3D. Not only will things be flying at my face, but they’ll be forty feet tall. I’m still thinking.

I have thirty days to decide. Bring it on Disney! Convince me.  John Carter opens March 9 everywhere.

John Carter Super Bowl TV Spot + Concept Art!

A New Poster for John Carter!

I’m not sure if it was worth the bazillions of dollars that I’m sure Disney/Pixar paid to stick it into the Super Bowl lineup, but this new tv spot for John Carter is seriously cool.

It includes a lot of footage that we’ve seen before but it’s reordered and plumped up with some that we haven’t all still set to the beat of that Led Zeppelin remix. I like Michael Giacchino’s work and I like the samples of the John Carter score that I’ve heard, but I’ll be disappointed if Kashmir isn’t included on the soundtrack.

In addition to this terrific tv spot, we’ve got some examples of the concept art for the film (via Movieweb). It’s fascinating to look at the drawings and then watch the footage to see them come to life.

John Carter, directed by Andrew Stanton and starring Taylor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe, Lynn Collins, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Thomas Haden Church, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, Polly Walker, James Purefoy and Bryan Cranston will be released in theaters in 3D, 2D and IMAX on March 9.

First Look at Mark Strong in Closer to the Moon!

First Look at Mark Strong in Closer to the Moon!

New Year, New Movie: Closer to the Moon from director Nae Cranfil stars Mark Strong, Vera Farmiga, Harry Lloyd and Christian McKay. The film follows a group of former Jewish Nazi Resistance fighters who turn their skills and attention to fighting the communists. They're arrested for robbing a bank under the guise of staging a film shoot and are sentenced to death. Prior to execution, they are forced to reenact their crime for a propaganda film. Lloyd plays the cameraman, Strong is the leader of the revolutionaries and Farmiga, his lover and the mother of his child.

Official synopsis:

Bucharest 1959. A spectacular Bank heist has the country in an uproar. In post-war Communist Romania it is an unimaginable slap in the face to the iron fisted authorities. Four men and a woman are arrested, tried, convicted and while waiting for their execution… are forced to star in a propaganda film about the crime. All five protagonists were heroes of the resistance during the Second World War and highly placed members of Romanian society. They clearly knew they would be caught and executed.

Closer to the Moon was filmed on location in Romania. Shooting wrapped in November and it's currently in post-production due for a 2013 release. Thanks to MarkStrongOnline, we have some pics!

New Imax Poster, TV Spots and Teaser for John Carter!

New Imax Poster, TV Spot and Teaser for John Carter!

In a  little over a month Disney Pixar will release the long awaited epic John Carter, based on the Barsoom novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs. More than two years in the making, Disney has a lot riding on this film. The film had been in development since at least 2004 (actually it has been in some form of development since 1931 when the author was approached about a film version) and the reported budget is somewhere north of $250 million.

Today we can show you the new poster touting the IMAX release of the film. It features Willem Dafoe's Tars Tarkas, who also features prominently in the teaser  that the Disney Channel is running. Thanks to Comingsoon we can share it with you below.

We've also got a compilation of TV spots from Yahoo:

(Personally, I fall a little more in love with Taylor Kitsch every time I hear him say "Yes ma'am".)

John Carter stars Kitsch, Dafoe, Lynn Collins, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Samantha Morton, Thomas Haden Church, Polly Walker, James Purfoy, Dominic West and Daryl Sabara. It opens everywhere on March 9. I'm in…are you?

(Bit of Trivia: Ciaran Hinds, Polly Walker and James Purefoy all appeared together in HBO's Rome.)

An Ad for An Ad for John Carter!

New Banners and Character Pics for John Carter!

Remember back in December when the internet went nuts over a series of trailers for a trailer? Fox teased us for a week in the run up to the release of the first official trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. Remember how silly everyone declared the frenzy to be (After it was all over of course.)? The trend is apparently not only continuing, but now we’re getting a trailer for a 30 second commercial.

Disney has released a 22 second teaser for its 30 second ad for John Carter that will air during next Sunday’s Super Bowl. Along with some snippets of footage we’ve already seen, there is a tease for a contest to win tickets to next year’s Super Bowl that in order to enter, one must watch the ad for John Carter during this year’s Super Bowl. A teaser within a teaser for a trailer! Brilliant! It’s like a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a riddle! (Well, not really, but you know what I mean.)

Maybe it’s because I’ve been following the progress of this film for so long, but I really do hope it’s a success. It’s an ambitious project. Not only is it director Andrew Stanton’s live action debut but Disney has pretty much bet the farm on it. It’s taken 2 years to get the CGI right alone. What I’ve seen so far looks really good and I’m not a huge sci-fi fan. But while the cast is exceptionally strong, including Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Thomas Haden Church, Bryan Cranston, Polly Walker, Dominic West and Samantha Morton, they’re not known for anchoring blockbusters. And at the center of the film, upon whose shoulders it rests, is an actor who is still a relative unknown.  John Carter is the first of two blockbusters that Taylor Kitsch will appear in this year. It might have been better for this film if Battleship had come first. If John Carter is a hit, the latter film will certainly benefit from its success.

Take a look at the teaser and then tune in to see the full length ad this Sunday during the Super Bowl. (You know, in case you weren’t planning to watch anyway. Go Pats.)

New Pics! Welcome to the Punch, Hunger Games and More!

New Pics! Welcome to the Punch, Hunger Games and More!

We have the first image from Eran Creevy’s Welcome to the Punch starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong. The story follows an ex-criminal (Strong) who is forced to return to London from his Icelandic hideaway when his son is involved in a heist gone wrong. This gives a dogged detective (McAvoy) one last chance to catch the man he’s always been after. It opens in September in the UK. No US date yet. You'd better believe I'll be keeping an eye on this one! (Thanks to ScreenDaily for the pic.)

New Pics! Welcome to the Punch, Hunger Games and More!

We’ve got two new images from The Hunger Games! One of them shows Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman  with Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss and if I didn’t know that was Stanley Tucci, I would never guess. That is some wig.  The ‘interviewer’ or emcee of The Games, apparently Caesar is famous for changing the color of his lips, hair, and eyelids for each of the Hunger Games.  The other images shows Katniss in the crowd in District 12 at “the reaping” which is when participants in The Games are chosen.

Here’s a new look at Channing Tatum-tot and Academy*cough*Award*choke*nominee*pounds head on keyboard* Jonah Hill from 21 Jump Street. Dressed in their prom tuxes amid debris and hiding behind bullet-riddled furniture, I’m guessing they won’t be getting the deposit on the hotel room back.

Still not sure how I feel about The Five Year Engagement but the leads are pretty damn likeable. Emily Blunt and Jason Segel might be nearly as charming as Jason Segel and Amy Adams were in The Muppets. Hmm…I’m sensing a pattern here.

…But then again, Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor were charming together in the trailer for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.

Here’s a new look at the Pirate Captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) from The Pirates! Band of Misfits coming in March. The trailers for this are hilarious. Hopefully it will be available in 2D as well as the dreaded 3.

And finally, last (and certainly least) here’s another look at the master thespians of The Three Stooges, Will Sasso as Curley, Chris Diamantopolous as Moe and Sean Hayes as Larry. The movie’s out in April, though inexplicably not on the 1st.
