Meryl Streep & Amy Adams Premiere ‘Julie & Julia’

full_julie_and_julia_27_wenn25214141

To me, Meryl Streep is one of the best actresses of our time.  She is versatile, funny, and beyond talented.  She plays Julia Child in Julie and Julia and judging from the trailers she nails it.  What else is new.  That’s Meryl!

Her costar Amy Adams plays Julie Powell, the writer of the book.  Nora Ephron wrote the screenplay.  Costars Chris Messina, Jane Lynch and Mary Lynn Rajskub also attended the Los Angeles premiere as well as:

  • Ashley Greene
  • Maria Menounos
  • Brittny Gastineau
  • Giada de Laurentiis

Meryl Streep admits that she and her onscreen husband in the film played by Stanley Tucci, are somewhat like a married couple in real life:

“Stanley and I are always on opposite sides in a very famous charades game during Christmas. We’ve been at each other’s throats like married people for a long time, many years and we knew each other in that way.

“I’ve been in love with him from a far anyway with the totality of the man from Big Night to his directing work, in every way. It wasn’t a tough job imagining being in love with him.”

He’s impressive in the kitchen as well:

“I once invited him over for dinner (to bond) with (his wife) Kate and I decided I’d make blanket de foie and it was not quite done when they arrived and so Stanley came in and completely took over the kitchen. We didn’t eat until 11pm!”

To have Meryl Streep as a friend and hang with her would be so cool.

Meryl Streep appalled at prices wars over baby shots

The two time Oscar winner (14 time nominee) is disgusted by the recent trend for Hollywood parents to sell the first shot of their newborn babies to the highest bidder.  Even if it’s for charity Brangelina.

On protecting her children:

”One thing I learned very early on is when you’re famous, you lose your right to privacy. And, if you promote your children, if you have them photographed, then they lose their rights.
“But, if you do not have them photographed and (do not) sell them to OK! magazine, they have the right to… privacy and citizenship.
“They (paparazzi) can follow me, take a picture, whatever they want to do. My kids, no.”

While I respect and agree with her opinion, the other side of the coin is stars nowadays are hounded mercilessly.  The paparazzi will get that shot eventually.  I don’t think it was this bad when she was having her children.  Maybe this is the celebrity’s way of not feeling completely violated?  What do you all think?

Did you know that Meryl:

  • Originally applied to Law School but slept in on the morning of her interview and took it as a sign she was destined for other things.
  • Took serious singing lessons and at 12, studied to become an opera singer.
  • When she was 20: “One night I hadn’t earned enough, I actually slept in the open in Green Park [in London]. The view was of the Ritz Hotel and I vowed I’d stay there one day. And I have.”
