Michael Fassbender’s Shame Gets a Date with Blu-Ray!

Michael Fassbender's Shame Gets a Date with Blu-Ray!

There is no reason for this post other than we needed some Michael Fassbender up in here. Am I right?

Actually, I wanted to announce that Steve McQueen's Shame, starring Fassy in the best performance by an actor of the year, certainly, in recent memory, probably, has gotten a blu-ray release date. Shame will hit the streets on April 17. Mark your calendars. If you haven't seen it, if it missed your town in its theatrical run, you'll be able to find out what the fuss is about (and scratch your head in bewilderment that Fassbender was overlooked by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences- More on that later).

While the reception to co-writer/director Steve McQueen's Shame has been somewhat mixed, even as Fassbender and even Carey Mulligan have been lauded, it is a fascinating character study and in its unique way, lets the audience form their own conclusions about the brother and sister at its core.  The audience gets to bear witness to a lot of  intimate and destructive behavior but you're not told exactly what led them down the paths that they're on. The fact that the film doesn't spell things out or spoon feed the viewer in any way is perhaps what I like best about it.

Okay, enough seriousness. (I'll have to go through all of this again in April when it's released anyway.) Who wants pics?!

Michael Fassbender Puts It In Top Gear!

Michael Fassbender Gets Into Top Gear!

This is a post for all of our readers who happen to reside in the UK or are lucky enough to get the Beeb on your telly.  (The original not the watered down version they give us. BBC America you know I love you…I have no choice.)

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, the real purpose of the post is to tell you that Michael Fassbender, one of your favorites and mine is going to be a guest  on Top Gear! I’m so excited! This Sunday February 19 at its usual time, 8pm, on BBC Two and BBC HD, you will be able to see The Stig give Fassy a driving lesson and then let him loose on the Lotus-designed Top Gear test track in their infamous “Reasonably Priced Car”, which is now the Kia Ceed. (Although I can more easily picture him in the Bentley Conti or the Porsche Panamera.)  Right now, Rowan Atkinson has the time to beat  at 1.42.2.  (Tom Cruise is only two seconds off the lead in fourth place with 1.44.2.)

Well, as excited as I am at this moment, I was even more excited when I thought I was going to be able to see it in the near future. It wasn’t until I realized that this is episode 4 of season 18 and BBC America is currently running season 17 that disappointment set in. Grrrr…. (I’ll rerun this post again in a few months time when BBC America has caught up.) In the meantime, head over to the Top Gear page on the BBC site and reacquaint (or acquaint as the case may be) yourselves with Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. Oh and of course, The Stig.  These guys are hilarious.

Here’s a vid of Jeremy introducing the show:

Strobe-Like International Trailer for Prometheus!

Posters: The Avengers, Mirror Mirror, Innkeepers, Friends with Kids, Silent House, Prometheus

20th Century Fox has released a new international trailer for Sir Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. It doesn't include a lot in the way of new footage, although there is some. It all comes in the form of flashes of images. There’s David (Michael Fassbender)! No wait, there’s Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), now it’s Captain Janek (Idris Elba)! Noomi’s Elizabeth Shaw is in pain, screaming for mercy! The trailer opens with Noomi Rapace telling us they were “so wrong” which in itself is very very creepy, add to that the pulsing foghorn of a soundtrack and these clips are more than enough to get us pumped for this movie.

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

Starring Rapace, Theron, Elba, Fassbender and Logan Marshall-Green, look for Prometheus 1st June in the UK and June 8 in the US

Michael Fassbender Goes Haywire in Berlin!

Michael Fassbender Goes Haywire in Berlin!

I wonder how many web postings today have had some variation of that title…

After yesterday’s photocall, the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire took to the red carpet last night for the premiere of their film at the Berlinale. Woo Hoo! Good enough reason to bring you some Michael Fassbender in a suit, am I right?

Fassbender and Antonio Banderas were clowning around, all while looking extraordinarily handsome.  I can only imagine some of the dialogue: “Miguel, mi amigo! Didn’t I just see you two hours ago?” “Why yes Antonio, you did. And I must say we look even better now than we did then.” “Agreed!”

The genetically gifted duo posed alongside the film’s leading ladies, former MMA fighter Gina Carano in a shiny LBD and Natascha Berg in red.

We have lots of pics below, but we also have a bit of news.  MTV spoke to writer/producer Simon Kinberg at the premiere of his latest film, This Means War, and they talked about the highly anticipated X-Men: First Class sequel!

"I don’t know what the title is going to be but certainly I’m working on the sequel to 'X-Men: First Class' right now," Kinberg said. "I’m going to be writing and producing it, I’m starting now, with Matthew Vaughn directing."

Kinberg went on to say that while they're still in the early stages of story-planning, the second film will likely involve a lot more Magneto.

"That’s what was so cool about the first one and what we want to continue," Kinberg said of exploring the supervillain's tortured beginnings. "Magneto becomes the villain ultimately of the franchise but he’s a much more complicated character as a young man. He’s someone you sympathize with, you care about you root for even though might not necessarily agree with his methods, you understand his philosophy."

"…a lot more Magneto.” Skweeeeeee!  Yes please!

Der Fassbender Ist Zuruck in Berlin!

Der Fassbender Ist Zuruck in Berlin!

"Hey Fastbanger! My eyes are up here!"

Der Fassbender Ist Zuruck in Berlin!

"Just keep smiling and don't make me kick your ass again."

Der Fassbender Ist Zuruck in Berlin!

"You could try. I quite enjoyed it the last time. Especially the bit with your thighs wrapped around my head…'Oh the shark bites…with his teeth dear'…"

Your daily Fassbender today includes pics from the Haywire photocall held today February 15 at the Grand Hyatt in Berlin as part of the 62nd Berlinale. Haywire is screening out of competition at the festival but Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Ewan McGregor, director Steven Soderbergh and of course, star Gina Carano all came out in support of their film.

I have to say, these are the best pics I've seen of Carano. She certainly looks good in "the dress" (a reference to a line in the movie), even if she can't act her way out of a paper bag. Enjoy the pics!

Miss Piggy Talks to the Stars on the BAFTA Red Carpet!

Miss Piggy Talks to the Stars on the BAFTA Red Carpet!

We brought you some great pics from last night’s red carpet in front of the 65th annual BAFTA  Awards and told you about Miss Piggy’s debut as a celebrity interviewer of celebrities, and apparently she was a big hit. We just found some footage and I have to share it with you.  Gary Oldman told her she was “the most sincere person I’ve met on this line so far”

Miss Piggy, who looked lovely in custom-made Louis Vuitton,  lined up a new film with Jessica Chastain (a “buddy comedy”), thought The Help was a remake of a Beatles movie (and told Octavia Spencer she was  a good Ringo) and talked, and shamelessly flirted, with the likes of Michael Fassbender and got flirted with by Jonah Hill, who demanded a kiss, and Adam Deacon who asked her for a date. Tom Hiddleston seemed genuinely, and very sweetly, star-struck.

Of course La Porker, whose real name is Pigathia although she told Daniel Radcliffe to call her “Miss”, saved her affections for Jon Hamm (even if she didn’t get the joke).

Enjoy the video!
