New Pics and a Poster for Men in Black III!

New Pics and a Poster for Men in Black III!

Men in Black III is a musical. As you can plainly see from the above pic, Will Smith is in the midst of filming one of the big Busby Berkeley –esque numbers at the heart of the film…

Nah…I’m lying.  His character, J, is actually late for an audition of an early version of TheVillage People.

No, that’ s not It either.  He’s just running over the top of a car, as the caption indicates, “Big Willie Style”.

We have a few new pics courtesy of Empire and a new poster via Comingsoon. The pics feature new looks at J along with Josh Brolin as a younger version of K (Tommy Lee Jones).  The poster puts all three of them together, but Smith is front and center.

In Men in Black III, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

Men in Black III, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, who helmed the last two, opens in, what else, 3D on May 25 throughout the galaxy.

UK Poster and Trailer for Sweetly Hopeful Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

UK Poster and Trailer for Sweetly Hopeful Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

I meant to bring you this new UK trailer and the accompanying poster for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen way back on Valentine’s Day, but it somehow got lost in the shuffle. That I just got a ticket to a sneak preview jogged my memory, so I’m sharing them with you now.  Call me crazy, but as jaded and cynical as I consider myself to be, I have high hopes for this one. (Plus it's filmed partly in Scotland…with kilts…)

What this film has going for it is director Lasse Hallström. His films are almost always a quirky look at the human condition (My Life As  A Dog, Once Around, Cider House Rules) full of a lot of heart and he can even do all-out romance like Chocolate. (I’m not going to discuss Dear John). This film also has two charismatic leads in Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor (even if they are overly photoshopped in the posters). The supporting cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas (speaking English again. LOVE her reaction to the kilts!), Rachel Stirling (who appeared with Blunt in The Young Victoria) and Amr Waked as the visionary Sheikh who sets everything in motion. While technically a “romantic comedy”, it’s not your standard “rom-com”.  It’s of the kinder, gentler variety.

As I said this poster and trailer are aimed at the UK market and yet we, here in the US, get the film nearly a month and a half before they do on 20th April.   I’ve seen nothing here and it opens in a little more than two weeks, on March 9.  What gives?  (I think I have to stop believing that the folks who make the decisions about how to market a film are inherently smarter than I am. Why would I assume that given how many times I’ve been left scratching my head this year alone? Pffft…)

See No Evil? New UK Poster for Eddie Murphy in A Thousand Words

See No Evil? New UK Poster for Eddie Murphy in A Thousand Words

More news on a March release: It’s been since November since we talked about Eddie Murphy’s new movie, A Thousand Words,  which was supposed to be the next step on his comeback tour. Tower Heist opened strong, but had no legs and fell off dramatically after the first week. Then there was that whole Academy Awards debacle.

The film itself seems like it’s taking an awful lot from Liar Liar, a Jim Carrey vehicle that benefitted enormously from its supporting cast, including Maura Tierney. In A Thousand Words, it’s not lies Murphy’s Jack McCall can’t utter, it’s words in general. This high concept piece of dross Otherwise it’s basically the same except we get to see Murphy playing a two hour game of charades.

“After stretching the truth on a deal with a spiritual guru, Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis), fast talking literary agent Jack McCall’s life comes unglued after a magical Bodhi tree mysteriously appears in his backyard. With every word Jack speaks, a leaf falls from the tree and he realizes that when the last leaf falls, both he and the tree are no more. The tree’s appearance holds a valuable lesson on the consequences of every word we speak. Words have never failed Jack McCall, but now he’s got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he’s a goner."

We have a new poster courtesy of our friends at HeyUGuys I’m very very skeptical about this. It’s been in the can for over a year. A Thousand Words was originally scheduled for January, but was moved to March to better capitalize on Murphy’s Oscar appearance. Ummm…maybe they forgot about it and just left it there. A Thousand Words costars Kerry Washington, Clark Duke, Allison Janney and Ariel Winter and is scheduled to open March 23 in the US and 6 April in the UK.

Lots of New Hunger Games Goodies incl an IMAX Poster and New Character Images!

Lots of New Hunger Games Goodies incl an IMAX Poster and New Character Images!

Things are really starting to heat up for the March releases we’ve been waiting for. In addition to all of the great stuff we’ve been getting for John Carter, we’ve been gifted with some really pics, posters and clips from Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games, based on the first novel in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy. Just a few days ago we got those seriously cool motion posters. I was thinking that might be it for a little while but no! We now have a terrific new IMAX poster as well as some character images to share!

Once again the synopsis:

In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

Along with Lawrence the supporting cast  includes Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci (I am loving his look for Caesar Flickerman more each time I see it), Donald Sutherland (who we see below for the first time), Isabelle Fuhrman, Willow Shields, Lenny Kravitz, Amandla Stenberg, and Wes Bentley, who will certainly need the trimmer advertised in his last poster. That is one wild beard!

The Hunger Games opens March 23  in the US, Canada and the UK.  Enjoy the pics. More will surely follow!

New UK Poster, TV Spot and Pretty Pics of Robert Pattinson from Bel Ami

New UK Poster, TV Spot and Pretty Pics of Robert Pattinson from Bel Ami

There’s a new UK poster for Bel Ami starring Robert Pattinson, notable mostly for its exceeding blandness. Luckily, we also have a tv spot, also for the UK market (which you can tell by their use of the word “cinema” instead of theater. Hey, I’m here to help.) as well as a handful of new images! (Lots of sites are proclaiming they have new images, what I find odd is that we’ve had most of them for weeks.)

Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod with the screenplay written by Rachel Bennette, Bel Ami is a period drama set in 1890s Paris. Pattinson is Georges Duroy, a penniless ex-soldier. The film follows his fin de sicle rise to power through his manipulation of  the most influential and wealthy women in Paris, played by Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Robert Pattinson and beautiful women in and out of period costumes set amid lavish sets and Parisian backdrops. Columbia is distributing in the US but I can’t seem to find out what it’s rated for US release so I don’t know exactly how much we’ll get to see, but I’m assuming there will be a lot of sexual situations.

Christina Ricci, who plays Clotilde de Marelle, recently told the UK’s Daily Mirror, "You get to see a lot of Rob in the movie. Twi-hards? Is that what they’re called? Yeah they will be happy; he’s naked most of the time." And this fact is not being shouted from the rooftops? Do they want to sell tickets to this thing or not?

Bel Ami had its world premiere in Berlin last week and is set to open here in the US on March 2 and 9th March in the UK. So we get it first and yet, all of the marketing and promotion is being done in Europe. Who’s in charge here?  Check out the tv spot and the pics. (Try not to short out your keyboard with the drooling.) We'll keep you posted on any new developments.

Maggie Grace Needs Guy Pearce & His Big Gun in 1st Official Lockout Poster

Maggie Grace Needs Guy Pearce & His Big Gun in 1st Official Lockout Poster

Open Road Films urges you to check out the first official poster for Lockout, the action-packed sci-fi thriller from the producers of Taken. Wrongly convicted ex-government agent Snow (Guy Pearce) must rescue the President’s daughter (Maggie Grace) from a supposedly escape-proof outer space maximum security prison after it’s taken over by violent inmates.

SYNOPSIS:

Starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace and set in the near future, Lockout follows a falsely convicted ex-government agent (Pearce), whose one chance at obtaining freedom lies in the dangerous mission of rescuing the President’s daughter (Grace) from rioting convicts at an outer space maximum security prison.

From renowned action producer Luc Besson, Lockout stars Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace (Taken) and Peter Stormare (Fargo). Ignoring the obvious similarities between this and Escape from New York, this could be a lot of fun, especially if it contains as much cynical humor as displayed by Guy Pearce in the first trailers. The film will be in theaters everywhere on April 20, 2012.
