Four Prometheus Promotions: Possible Spoilers Ahead

Four Prometheus Promotions: Possible Spoilers Ahead

In today’s Prometheus news, we have a completely ridiculous promotional tool as well as a brilliant onem a poster that looks to contain a spoiler and not nearly enough Michael Fassbender and some new images from Sir Ridley Scott's in-depth interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Let’s start with the poster. It comes from Malaysia even though it’s in English. It looks more like a traditional movie one-sheet than anything we’ve seen thus far for Prometheus, but it also seems to stick a big spoiler right in the center of it, (For that reason, I’ve left it to the bottom of the post. Don’t view if you don’t want to know.) and Michael Fassbender’s David is nowhere in sight.

Four Prometheus Promotions: Possible Spoilers Ahead

Speaking of Fassbender, in a classic case of “what’s wrong with this picture?” I have to ask,WTF is going on with this promo? Fassbender and Sir Ridley Scott are apparently schilling for beer. Movie tie-ins are usually ridiculous (Chocolate Iced Coffee for Men in Black III? Berry-flavored Mountain Dew for The Dark Knight Rises? Those are just two examples from this year alone.), but perhaps because it’s for a movie from a director I respect and an actor I revere, that this seems especially repugnant. Oh well, those special effects and that massive set cost money (Over $120million). Fox has to pay the bills. (As if the movie isn’t going to make more than the combined GNP of most of Africa.)

To get the taste of that out of our mouths, we have yet another viral video from the vaults of the Weyland Corporation. It appears to be Elizabeth Shaw’s (Noomi Rapace) personal plea to be included in any exploration of the alien pictographs that she’s discovered. It’s called “The Quiet Eye” and it’s meant to appear to look as if it leaked from her personnel files. It debuted on the Verizon FiOS Facebook. If you’ve been following the marketing campaign for Prometheus, you’re going to want to watch this.

Finally, check the images from that THR interview in which Sir Ridley confirms that Prometheus "pays heavy tribute to author Erich von Daniken’s ideas in his 1968 book 'Chariots of the Gods?' — which argued that we are not alone and another sentient entity might have spawned us."

Prometheus is one week away for those in the UK and two weeks for us in the US and Canada. The original screenplay was originally written by Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour) and Damon Lindelof ("Lost", Cowboys & Aliens, Star Trek 2).

Hey, I Found TOM HARDY! More Lawless Character Posters!

Hey, I Found TOM HARDY! More Lawless Character Posters!

I have no idea why no one seemed to have these poster for John Hillcoat’s Lawless all together or all at once yesterday, but it doesn’t matter now since I found TOM HARDY, as well as GARY OLDMAN and even Jason Clarke who plays oldest Bondurant brother, Howard. Hardy plays Forest, the middle brother, the one who endures, the brother driven to succeed, who seems to lack the capacity to enjoy the fruits of his labors, except for Maggie.  Hardy and Chastain are said to have some really incendiary love scenes in this film. Chastain is reportedly worried about watching them during the Cannes screening surrounded by a few hundred “friends and family”. (Apparently she gets naked repeatedly.)

Lawless is a bootlegging drama set in Depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, about a family of moonshiners that are threatened by authorities who want a cut of their profits.  As I already mentioned, the film is currently in competition for the Palm D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

I also mentioned that I think these posters look like they could be period photographs taken by Dorothea Lange. I wasn’t crazy about the first teaser poster put out with the trailer, but these are spectacular.  (You can see the ones I posted yesterday here.)

Lawless is currently set to open in the US on August 31. I can not wait!

All I Want to Know is, Where is Tom Hardy?!? New Lawless Posters

All I Want to Know is Where is Tom Hardy?!? New Lawless Posters

We have new character posters for John Hillcoat’s Lawless, the bootlegging drama set in Depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, about a family of moonshiners that are threatened by authorities who want a cut of their profits.  The film is currently in competition for the Palm D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.  There are posters for Jessica Chastain’s Maggie, Shia LaBeouf’s Jack, Mia Wasikowska’s Bertha  and Guy Pearce as Agt. Charlie Rakes. I can only assume that posters for TOM HARDY and Gary Oldman are on the way.

If the movie weren’t already on my “MUST SEE in 2012” list, I think these posters would pique my interest. Chastain looks like a part of the Barrow-Parker gang, indeed all four of them look like they could be period photographs taken by Dorothea Lange. (For the record, sometimes when you hear a film gets shut down for whatever reason and actors fall out because of availability. Both Amy Adams and Scarlett Johansson were both attached at one time in the role of Maggie. Having read the book, in my opinion, Jessica Chastain is a FAR better choice than either of them.) Can’t wait for this!

Skyfall Teaser Poster to Tease the Trailer Coming Soon!

Skyfall Teaser Poster to Tease the Trailer Coming Soon!

Consider this poster a teaser for the trailer that Sony is about to drop on Monday. Instead of a trailer for a trailer we get this first official Skyfall marketing tool which shows Daniel Craig (in that Tom Ford suit) in the middle of the trademark Bond “eye” (I’ve always thought it represented the barrel of a gun), carrying his Walther PPK and a menacing look. James Bond is back baby!

As of this writing Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig and company are still in Istanbul. Here’s a shot of Craig on a motorcycle, just because it’s Friday:

Skyfall Teaser Poster to Tease the Trailer Coming Soon!

We know the plot of the 23rd Bond film by now, “Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”  I’m just eagerly awaiting that trailer!

Skyfall is scheduled to land in UK cinemas on 26th October and theaters in the US on November 9.

First Look at Sex Addiction Comedy Thanks for Sharing

First Look at Sex Addiction Comedy Thanks for Sharing

Thanks for Sharing is about sex addiction, but it is as far removed from Shame as it could possibly get, especially since it mines the subject for laughs. How far we’ve come in a year.  Thanks for Sharing stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins and Josh Gad (Love and Other Drugs)

From the Academy Award nominated writer of The Kids are All Right, Thanks for Sharing is a touching and unpredictable comedy that follows three sex addicts as they struggle to function in society while maintaining meaningful relationships. Along the way, Adam (Ruffalo) attempts to forge a relationship with Phoebe (Paltrow), a wildly independent and beautiful woman who has sworn off dating addicts after breaking up with an alcoholic. Mike (Robbins) is married to his high school sweetheart, but becomes as addicted to his 12 step recovery program as he does to sex. Neil (Gad), on the other hand, hides a camera on his tennis shoe to secretly film up women’s skirts – all while trying to convince his friends that he can live a life without sex. Throughout the film, they each deal with their addictions in different and hilarious ways in this unusual and sweet comedy.

The film also stars Joely Richardson, Carol Kane, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., Patrick Fugit and Pink. Thanks for Sharing opens August 9 in the US.

Robert Pattinson Has Sex in a Limo, Looks Bored

Robert Pattinson Has Sex in a Limo, Looks Bored

First we have a quick little clip from David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, one of the new flicks we’ve been telling you about for awhile now that is also in contention for the Palm D’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.  Fittingly, the clip comes from French site WatTV. In the clip, in which Rob’s Eric Packer is seen getting it on with Juliette Binoche, we learn two things about Eric: 1. He’s married.  2. His character is as close to completely numb as a person can get and still have a pulse.

Entertainment One has dropped a new little UK trailer to prepare for the release into cinemas on 15th  June. It’s also quick but does give a good overview of what we’ve seen already. There’s also a new UK poster above which bears the Cannes logo.

New York is in turmoil, the age of capitalism is drawing to a close and Eric Packer, a high finance golden boy is chauffeured across the city in his extravagant limousine to get a haircut. A visit from the President of the United States paralyses Manhattan and as the day goes by, an eruption of wild activity unfolds on the city’s streets. Eric watches helplessly as his empire collapses and as his paranoia intensifies during the 24-hour period, he starts to piece together clues that lead him to a most terrifying secret: his imminent assassination.

Again, the UK gets Cosmopolis on 15th June. No exact date yet for the US although the rumor is now sometime in August. Cosmopolis also stars Paul Giamatti, Samantha Morton, Jay Baruchel and Sarah Gadon.

Watch This Trailer for The Possession with the Lights On!

Watch This Trailer for The Possession with the Lights On!

You might have heard about The Possession when it was called Dibbuk Box. It is The Exorcist for the new millennium. Instead of Catholicism though, the film deals with Jewish lore. (A Dibbuk is a malevolent, misplaced spirit) The Possession is directed by Ole Bornedal and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick as a divorced couple whose youngest child becomes strangely attached to an antique wooden box purchased at a yard sale. The girl's behavior becomes erratic and her parents get the carvings on the box deciphered and find the box contains a spirit bent on devouring its human host.  It’s supposedly based on a true story.

A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl's father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

Watch this. If it doesn’t scare the bejeebus out of you – and it’s only the trailer! – check your pulse. I’m showing you this at 8:30 in the morning because even though I consider myself pretty jaded and cynical when it comes to  horror movies (okay, most things) but  I watched it last night and it stayed with me. See? I’m doing you a service. I’m a giver.

The caveat here is that it was originally set for release last October.  So now, not only has it lost its interesting title but it’s been relegated to August 31, not typically a good time for good flicks. But we’ll see.

First Look at Emperor with Tommy Lee Jones as Douglas MacArthur!

First Look at Emperor with Tommy Lee Jones as Douglas MacArthur!

Emperor is Peter Webber‘s (Girl with a Pearl Earring, Hannibal Rising) upcoming drama that centers on Japan’s surrender during WWII. Tommy Lee Jones plays General Douglas MacArthur. Take a look at that pic. Can you imagine more perfect casting? Me either.

Starring Matthew Fox (“Lost”, World War Z) and Tommy Lee Jones, EMPEROR, inspired by true events, is an epic story of love and understanding set amidst the tensions and uncertainties of the days immediately following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II. On the staff of General Douglas MacArthur (Jones), the de facto ruler of Japan as Supreme Commander of the occupying forces, a leading Japanese expert, General Bonner Fellers (Fox) is charged with reaching a decision of historical importance: should Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal? Influencing his ruling is his quest to find Aya, an exchange student he met years earlier in the U.S  From director Peter Webber (Girl with a Pearl Earring), EMPEROR is produced by Yoko Narahashi (The Last Samurai), Gary Foster (Ghost Rider, Daredevil, The Soloist), Eugene Nomura (Tajomaru, Surely Some Day) and Russ Krasnoff (The Soloist).

Emperor, which just finished filming in New Zealand last month, is currently selling on the Cannes marketplace and will hopefully hit theaters by year’s end. Awards Daily is already putting Tommy Lee Jones on “Oscar Watch”.
