Daniel Craig Hops a Train then Catches a Flight + More Skyfall News!

Daniel Craig Hops a Train then Catches a Flight + More Skyfall News!

We have some pics of Daniel Craig for your Tuesday morning muffin as he makes his way through Ataturk International Airport on his way out of Istanbul. It looks like filming for Skyfall has finally wrapped in that city. Wonder where they’re off to next. (I know we waited forever, but doesn’t it seem like they’ve been filming forever now? This movie comes out in five months in the UK.) We also have a few pics from that train stunt shoot with Craig and his stunt double, Ben Cooke (who also doubled for Jason Statham in Killer Elite).  That’s a particular favorite up top.

In still more James Bond news, after yesterday’s reveal of that awesomely moody first trailer (oh and by the way, after several more viewings, the end isn't a question, it's a statement: "We're going to kill them first". How silly of me.), Sony has created what it’s calling a ‘super-trailer’ combining the trailer for Skyfall and a trailer for its tie-in video game for Xbox 360 and PS3, “007 Legends”.  I’m not a gamer, but I’ll probably watch this version of the trailer over and over for one reason: the iconic Bond theme in the background of the game s that is noticeably asent from the film’s trailer.

The game combines six Bond films that span several eras, starting with Moonraker, the foundation for the first ‘mission.’ The end of the trailer hints that we’ll get trailers for the other five levels over the coming months.

“007 Legends” lands in stores October 16th. Skyfall lands 26th October in the UK and Novemer 9 in the US.  Enjoy the pics and the video!

Still Livin’ the Teenage Dream – New Poster for Katy Perry: Part of Me

Still Livin' the Teenage Dream - New Poster for Katy Perry: Part of Me

"Be yourself and you can be anything."

Hey cats and kittens, have you seen this? There’s a brand new cotton candy-colored poster for Katy Perry’s concert movie, Katy Perry: Part of Me., Did you know it's in 3D.  Yes, that’s right, it’s in 3D. Perry herself has promised spectacular special effects. “The word 'cheap' was not in the vocabulary. Hello — it's 3D. You're going to get hit with a lot of sh–."

Judging from the trailer, which you can view below, you’ll also get some long looks at her early fundamentalist Christian upbringing as well as her relationship with (or at least the subsequent divorce from) Russell Brand in between the singer’s greatest hits. I’ve got that damn Baby You’re a Firework song stuck in my head again now.

I suspect the real Katy Perry (real name Katy Hudson) is pretty shy and guarded and trying to find her place in the world. (The title is after all, "Part" of Me) The costumes and brightly colored hair are disguises to hide behind. (Not exactly a new concept). The tagline “Be yourself and you can be anything”, however,  is not a bad message to be sharing with her legions of teen and tween-age fans.  She’s smart and hard-working, also not traits we should be afraid to show the kids. Who cares what color her hair is?

Katy Perry: Part of Me opens in the US and the UK on July 3 (opposite The Amazing Spider-Man. Now that’s some balls.)

Act Like a Criminal to Catch a Criminal: Poster for The Sweeney!

Act Like a Criminal to Catch a Criminal: Poster for The Sweeney!

Okay, this made MY Monday, I don’t know about yours. There is a new poster out for Nick Love’s The Sweeney with one of my favorite geezers, Ray Winstone, to go with the trailer we got last month.  We’ve been telling you about this new Brit crime thriller right along so my excitement  probably comes as no surprise. Even though it’s based on a 70’s tv show, lest anyone think this is a period piece and will be set in the 70’s, the poster should dispel that notion since “The Gherkin” is very prominent in the London Skyline.

“Based on the original ITV cult classic TV show, THE SWEENEY will be a modernization of the London Flying Squad, directed by Nick Love (THE FOOTBALL FACTORY, THE FIRM) and co-written by Bafta Winner John Hodge (TRAINSPOTTING).

Set in present day England, THE SWEENEY will be packed full of fast cars, action and wise cracks as it follows Flying Squad detectives Jack Regan, (originally played John Thaw,) George Carter (original played by Dennis Waterman) and their team, as they work to keep the bad guys down!”

Ray Winstone’s costar Ben Drew aka Plan B, has been at Cannes this past weekend promoting his directorial debut, Ill Manors. (You can find out more on that at the film’s official site.)  The Sweeney  also stars the great Damian Lewis, Hayley Atwell, Steven McIntosh, Steven Waddington and Alan Ford. It opens in the UK n 12th September. Still no word on US release (but we’ll probably at least get VOD at some point.) Meanwhile, Ray will be seen in Snow White and the Huntsman beginning June 1.

Like an An Old Fashioned Shot to the Nutsack

Like an An Old Fashioned Shot to the Nutsack

…way to stay classy.

We have your first look at Anchorman2: The Legend Continues. Actually, there’s a teaser poster and a teaser trailer for a film that hasn’t been made yet. Apparently there was a something of a huge internet clamoring for a sequel to 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. The original did, after all have an easily remembered, and sufficiently generic enough to apply to everyday life, catchphrase. That may be all that’s required (that and turning at least a modest profit. Having a star that studios seem to want to allow to do whatever he wants doesn’t hurt either.) I don’t get it, but it’s possible I’m not the target demographic since I am not now, nor ever have been a 20-something male. Judging from the “quotes” page on imdb, there are a lot of people out there who know the movie verbatim.

The teaser appeared in theaters attached to The Dictator this past weekend and now it’s online for your viewing pleasure (via TheFilmstage):

By the time the sequel is released, it will be at least nine years after the original. I guess they’re going to keep teasing for the next year and a half to make sure your interest stays up. The good thing is that it looks like the original cast: Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, David Koechner as Champ Kind, Paul Rudd as Brian Fantana and Steve Carell as hapless Brick Tamland will all be returning. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has a script and is scheduled to hit theaters some time in 2013

Sean Penn and His Blazing Tommy Gun Have a Message For You

Sean Penn and His Blazing Tommy Gun Have a Message For You

“You don’t wanna empty yer pockets for Haiti? Oh yeah? Well eat LEAD fatcats!”

That’s not really the message Penn is sending. That’s a still from Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad in which Penn plays kingpin Mickey Cohen.  Buzz is really starting to build on the Warner Brothers film after the trailer dropped a couple of weeks ago. I think I’ve mentioned how much I’m looking forward to it.

The film, about an elite LAPD unit tasked with taking down mobster Cohen in the brutal LA of the late 40’s early 50’s, has an amazing cast, featuring Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi and Anthony Mackie. We have some new images courtesy of our friends at HeyUGuys including new looks (actually they appear to be screen shots from the trailer) at ultimate moll Emma Stone, Brolin and Gosling.

I’ve watched the trailer a few times since it first arrived. There are still things I’m not crazy about but there is enough there to love, not least of which is this cast, that I’m still in. Gangster Squad raids theaters on September 7 in the US (a mere week after another take on the gangster mythos, Lawless.)

Daniel Craig and James Bond are Back Baby!

Skyfall Teaser Poster to Tease the Trailer Coming Soon!

…if only for a few brief moments in the first teaser for Sam Mendes’ Skyfall.

Ahead of its screening at the Cannes Film Festival, where it will be unveiled by Bond girl Berenice Marlohe, who plays Severine, Sony has released a short teaser trailer for Skyfall lasting approximately one minute and a half. It opens with Bond gazing out on the London skyline towards the Houses of Parliament in the flip side of a still we’ve already been given.

We then move to a cement bunker-life room with what appears to be an interrogation of sorts going on. 007 is engaged in a word association exercise with a man who appears to be an MI6 psychiatrist perhaps? (He’s played by Nicholas Woodeson although the actor isn’t listed in the credits and it’s not on his imdb cv) About half-way through we see Bond is being observed by Dame Judi Dench's M and Ralph Fiennes's Gareth Mallory.

The exercise ends when Bond is asked to respond to "Skyfall" and hesitates before saying "done".

In a quick montage we see Bond in Hong Kong, a row of Union Flag-covered coffins and the usual array of gunfights, chases and explosions. At one point, a London Underground train appears to come crashing through a wall. We also see a flash of Bond sexing up Naomie Harris’s MI6 agent Eve.

It ends with an eager Bond asking "Some men are coming to kill us, are we're going to kill them first?".

If the clip seems to tout British pride, it’s only fitting in this year of Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee. It’s also Bond’s 50th anniversary of his screen presence.

Original Bond girl Martine Beswick, who starred as Zora in From Russia With Love and as Paula in Thunderball, will be present to introduce a special Cannes screening of From Russia With Love immediately following the teaser as part of the Cannes Classics Cinema de la Plage outdoor screening series that is celebrating 50 years of Bond this year.

The series represents the first time Bond has ever been to the festival. Other James Bond films on the schedule include Dr No, Diamonds Are Forever, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale.

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, opens 26th October in the UK and November 9 in the US and Canada.

Bill Murray Serves the King a Hot Dog in First Trailer for Hyde Park on Hudson

Bill Murray Serves the King a Hot Dog in First Trailer for Hyde Park on Hudson

Bill Murray is the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Roger Michell’s Hyde Park on Hudson. The film chronicles a weekend in 1939, when Europe was already at war, when King George VI (played here by Samuel West and not Colin Firth) became the first British Monarch to formally visit the U.S.  The main plot, however, revolves around FDR’s relationship with his cousin Margaret, called Daisy (Laura Linney). Focus Features has finally given us the first trailer. If you’re a fan of softly humorous period drama, I think you’ll like it:

Roger Michell directed one of my very favorite movies, Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds, as well as the very popular (but pedestrian) Notting Hill and the underrated Changing Lanes with Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson and the equally underestimated Morning Glory with Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford. The rest of the cast here includes Olivia Williams as Eleanor Roosevelt, Elizabeth Wilson as Sara Delano Roosevelt and Olivia Coleman (Bafta Winner for Tyrannosaur) as Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mum). Hyde Park on Hudson is (appropriately) scheduled for a December 7 release in the US, but some festival appearances will probably come first. I’m really looking forward to this. You can find more of our coverage here.

Breaking: Robin Gibb Dead at 62

Breaking: Robin Gibb Dead at 62

"We could never see tomorrow, no one said a word about the sorrow"

Robin Gibb has died at the age of 62 on May 20.  The legendary musician passed away on Sunday in London.  In February, Gibb announced he had made a “spectacular” recovery from cancer, but in March he underwent further surgery on his intestines.

Gibb’s family issued a formal statement that reads, “The family of Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer of the colon and liver and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

Gibb was, of course, best known as a member of the Bee Gees, in which he performed with his twin brother Maurice and older brother Barry.

The Bee Gees, British-born, Australia-raised brothers, were one of the most successful pop groups of all time, selling more than 200 million albums. The band’s hits included “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “Night Fever from the legendary Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The group became synonymous with disco, but before that, they’d had a series of soft rock hits in the 60’s and early 70’s. I’ve chosen this one because it showcases Robin’s voice (and seems to fit the occasion):

The Gibb matriarch, Barbara, at 91 has outlived three of her four sons. The youngest, Andy, died in 1988 from a drug overdose at 30, Maurice in 2003 at 53 and now Robin. Barry Gibb at 65 is the oldest of the Gibb brothers and has outlived all three of his siblings.  Our hearts go out to Robin’s wife Dwina, daughter Melissa and sons Spencer and Robin-John as well as two year old Snow Robin. Our condolences to the entire Gibb family. RIP Robin Gibb.
