Final Teaser Before the Trailer for Looper!

If Bruce Willis Kills Joseph Gordon Levitt Is it Suicide? First Look at Looper!

Well, you made it to Hump Day, so you get to see the third of the three "vignettes" from Rian Johnson's Looper!

As promised last week when we brought you the first look and the first poster for this time travel/action film,  the three vignettes have now all been released successively this week; all leading up to the release of the actual trailer tomorrow, Thursday April 12. (You can see Monday’s here and Tuesday’s here.)

There is a little bit more footage, as this one’s a little bit longer than the first two, and the footage is intercut with Joseph Gordon Levitt and Rian Johnson discussing the transformation process to turn JGL into Bruce Willis as a younger man.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to "close the loop," sending back Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

Looper will be released in the US and the UK on September 28.

Mark Wahlberg and The Rock Remake Miami Vice!

Mark Wahlberg and The Rock Remake Miami Vice!

I’m kidding! They’re actually on the set of the movie they’re shooting for Michael Bay called Pain and Gain. It does take place in Miami though.

We brought you the first look the other day, but today’s pics are a lot more fun. We get to see much more Dwayne Johnson for one, some Anthony Mackie for another. Mark Wahlberg continues to look constipated but it looks like someone dares to tickle The Rock’s rock hard abs. Meanwhile, Tony Shaloub hefts a bag of charcoal. (Whatever could that mean to the plot??  Gotta love set pics. They could make Star Wars look dull.)

Pain and Gain is based on a true story and has been described as a low budget (by Michael Bay standards) thriller. IMDB is calling it a drama, but I’m thinking it’s got to have some comedy in the mix, especially with the presence of Ken Jeong. Johnson and Wahlberg play a “pair of bodybuilders in Florida who get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.”  The film also stars Ed Harris, Rob Corddry and Tony Plana. Enjoy the pics!

Feel The Magic of Belle Isle! Watch the Winsome First Trailer!

Feel The Magic of Belle Isle! Watch the Winsome First Trailer!

Once in a while, a movie comes along that I know was designed purely to tug at my heartstrings, but is so well made that it melts my icy cynicism. Basing my conclusions solely on the evidence found in this first trailer, I’m thinking The Magic of Belle Isle is one such movie.

The Magic of Belle Isle is directed by Rob Reiner, whose last film was Flipped, which almost no one saw (when did that happen, that people stopped going to see Rob Reiner movies? This is the man who gave us When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, Misery etc  etc). Now he’s got another one that almost no one has heard of. It was originally titled Summer at Dog Dave’s and the female lead was Annette Bening. When she dropped out, Virginia Madsen stepped in and then somewhere along the way it was retitled as well. Here Reiner reteams with his Flipped star Madeline Carroll (Machine Gun Preacher) and his Bucket List star Morgan Freeman, along with Madsen, Keenan Thompson, Kevin Pollack, Jessica Hecht and Fred Willard. Freeman is Monte Wildhorn, a writer of some repute burdened by alcoholism.

In an effort to tap into his original talent, a wheelchair-bound author moves to a rural town, where he befriends a single mother and her three kids, who help reignite his passion for writing.

Check  out the trailer. This looks both predictable and sweet. With Reiner’s ear for dialogue, it will probably also ring true. We’ll find out this summer when the film hits VOD June 1 before a July 6 limited release.

Cabin in the Woods Wants You to Know It Is AWESOME!

Cabin in the Woods Wants You to Know It Is AWESOME!

Lionsgate has dropped a new tv spot for Cabin in the Woods that basically consists of a few snippets of footage intercut with reactions from teenagers at test screenings. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I tend toward the skeptical when someone in that demographic declares anything to be the “best they’ve ever seen”.  That may well be, but is it the best I’VE ever seen?

Now, having said that, everything I’ve seen and read about Cabin in the Woods does point toward something new and different in the teen/slasher genre. And I’m all for that.

Synopsis:

Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen.

If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

Produced by Whedon and directed by Goddard from a script by both, the film stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford.

Here’s a new clip, “Split Up” courtesy of Yahoo:

Don't forget to check out The Scare Wall.  IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT’S SCARY, THINK AGAIN. Challenge your fear by watching some of the most famous scare videos online and submit your own for a chance to be featured in the top 100! Cabin in the Woods opens Friday April 13 in the US and UK.

New Looks at Daniel Craig Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes in Skyfall!

New Looks at Daniel Craig Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes in Skyfall!

Sony has sprinkled some new official images from Sam Mendes’ Skyfall all over the web today and you can see them below! Included in this batch is our first look at Ralph Fiennes, although it gives absolutely no clue as to his character (just looks like Ralph Fiennes…not that that’s a bad thing).

We’ve got the images courtesy of MI6 (via ComicBookMovie), and thanks to them we also have some thoughts from Javier Bardem on his character.

"It's cool, and the coolest thing and what's most important is the material. When I got it and saw the character, immediately you forget a little that it is a James Bond film and you realise that it is a great film and that's what attracted me. I said, "man this gives you a lot of possibilities". Obviously it's a James Bond film and it has everything you expect from a Bond film… there is a super-powerful story and a character with meat to put your teeth in and enjoy doing."

"I'm (sic) completely decided to give him {James Bond} a hard time and the truth is that I get to do it. Doing it in the set is a different thing [to reading it in a script]. The character puts Bond into some curious and interesting difficulties and one has to do it [for real], to give the idea that you are the villain. Otherwise there is no point in doing it. You have to put the actor in a difficult situation, that's the objective. In that sense Sam is helping a lot, he's an amazing director. And I'm delighted to be working with Daniel, he's a guy with balls, he's a really hard working guy, super-compromised with what he's doing. For him it's strenuous, six months of shooting every day, in addition with a lot of physical demand and the guy holds on super-committed."

You read the rest of the interview as well as watch a Spanish language video of the interview at the link.

Skyfall is set to open 26th October in the UK and November 9 in the US. This time out Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. The film stars Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Helen McCrory, Berenice Marlohe, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw as Q.

Prometheus Premieres in Paris!

Prometheus Premieres in Paris!

It’s all Prometheus, all the time around here lately and I, for one, am not complaining! (More Prometheus equals more Fassbender). Sir Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic had it’s first premiere (just after a big press conference and footage reveal in London yesterday) at Cinema Gaumont Marignan  last night, Tuesday April  10, in Paris. It’s still early, but the French will get to see the film first, as it premieres on May 30 in France, Belgium and French-speaking parts of Switzerland, before it opens 1st June in the UK and June 8 in the US.

On hand last night were director Scott, Charlize Theron in an absolutely electric blue that complimented her natural coloring, Noomi Rapace (does it look like these two don’t like each other or what?) and of course, Michael Fassender.  Mr. FITS wore a gorgeous charcoal suit sans tie but with a silk pocket square…*swoon*

In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the teamdiscovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.

Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Prometheus, written by Damon Lindelof (Lost, Cowboys & Aliens) and Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour) stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris and Patrick Wilson.

Watch the 2nd Clip on the Way to the Trailer for Looper!

If Bruce Willis Kills Joseph Gordon Levitt Is it Suicide? First Look at Looper!

As promised, here’s the second of three "vignettes" from Rian Johnson's Looper!   As we told you last week when we brought you the first look and the first poster for this time travel/action film,  the three vignettes will be released successively this week all leading up to the release of the trailer on Thursday April 12. (You can see yesterday’s here.)

Each clip will be introduced by Johnson and his star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  Again, it’s just fifty seconds worth of footage, even though they cram a lot into that small space. You know how I feel about trailers for trailers, but since we know so little about Looper, I’m relaxing my policy. One question though, despite the fact that he is a very talented actor, is it me or does Joseph Gordon Levitt always look stoned?

Looper will be released September 28 in the UK, Canada and the US. We'll be back tomorrow with more!
