Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Gets 2 Super Bowl Ads for the Price of 1

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Official Trailer #2

“No Cape. No Tights. No face”

Leave it to those two mad geniuses Neveldine/Taylor to come up with the best tag line for a movie, at least so far this year, probably in many years. In a summer movie season destined to be chock full of super heroes, many of the tights wearing variety (the Cape won’t show up until next year), they’ve drawn the line. ‘Here there be none of those’, but the kicker is surely, “…no face”.

Columbia unleashed not one but two brand new tv spots during the Super Bowl, both with a bit of footage we hadn’t seen before.  I have to say I’m starting to ‘warm’ to this tale of Nicolas Cage destined to live out a fiery eternity on the back of a motorcycle.

Take a look at the clips courtesy of Latino Review (via HeyUGuys). Both are short. The 2nd one is shorter than the ad that plays in front of it. I figure they just took their paid for/allotted time and divided it up.

A Ton of New Images from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Now with More Satan!

A Ton of New Images from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Now with More Satan!

If I see Neveldine/Taylor’s latest opus, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, it will be for one reason and one reason only: Ciaran Hinds is playing The Devil. Actually, make that two reasons: Idris Elba is playing a character called Moreau that appears to be one of The Devil’s minions.  I’m in. Ciaran Hinds and Idris Elba could be playing the Katzenjammer Kids, if they’re doing it in the same film, I’m there.

Of course, this is Nicolas Cage’s movie. Cage reprises the role of Johnny Blaze from 2007’s Ghost Rider. This time Blaze is hiding out in Eastern Europe, where he is called upon to stop the devil, who is trying to take human form.

The pics below are the first to include Hinds’ Devil as well as better looks at Idris and Johnny Wentworth, not to mention those mad geniuses Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor at work. Thanks to French site Cinecomics, (with a nod to ComicBookMovie for the tipoff), we have some shots of Cage’s transformation into the Ghost Rider, using motion capture technology.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens February 17 in the US and the UK. It also stars Violante Placido, Christopher Lambert and Anthony Head. Enjoy the pics!  (Can’t wait to find out what the Druid prayer circle has to do with anything.)

Nicolas Cage is Seeking Justice for January Jones

Nicolas Cage is Seeking Justice for January Jones

The last time we talked about the Nicolas Cage/January Jones revenge thriller it was called Justice for the UK release back in November  (after having started out as The Hungry Rabbit Jumps).  Now it’s called Seeking Justice. With elements of Stangers on a Train and Star Chamber, Roger Donaldson’s Seeking Justice stars Nicolas Cage as Will Gerard, a happily married family man whose quiet life is turned upside-down when his wife, Laura (January Jones), is brutally attacked one night while leaving work.

At the hospital, waiting for news about his wife’s condition, Will is approached by Simon (Guy Pearce), who proposes an intriguing offer: Simon will arrange to have a complete stranger exact vengeance on Laura’s attacker, in exchange for a favor from Will in the near future. Distraught and grief-stricken, Will consents to the deal, unwittingly pulling himself into a dangerous underground vigilante operation. While continuing to protect his wife from the truth, he quickly discovers that his quest for justice could lead to frightening and deadly consequences.

A new trailer debuted today on iTunes and thanks to Comingsoon, we have an embeddable version:

Seeking Justice, which looks a cut above the usual Nic Cage fare and miles above that Joel Schumacher opus, Trespass (I’d love to know how he convinced TIFF to give that a berth), also stars Jennifer Carpenter, Xander Berkeley and Harold Perrineau. It opens in the US on March 16.

Johnny Blaze Has Got Nothing on Neveldine/Taylor – Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Featurette

Three Fiery New Images and a Poster for Ghost Ride: Spirit of Vengeance!

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor make movies for the video game generation. Something of a contradiction, they’re slackers with a  healthy work ethic (and apparently no fear. At least that can be said of Neveldine. He’s  the one always hanging off the back of a motorcycle or a truck or swinging from a wire, camera in hand in order to get the shot. Why aren’t you doing it Taylor? What’re you a pussy?) It continues to amaze me that studios, backers, producers, what have you, keep throwing money at them to make another movie, but then I remember while it may not be high art, there is a segment of the population that finds the movies Neveldine/Taylor make entertaining and they earn their keep.

You think Gamer was a bomb? Hell no it wasn’t. It may not have played well in the theaters, but it killed on dvd.

Now we have Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Frankly, if a sequel to 2009’s Ghost Rider had to be made, these are just the two lunatics to do it.  Surprisingly, the first trailer, while not exactly great, didn’t suck. The more that’s been shown has steadily improved. I can actually see myself sitting through this and enjoying it.  Take a look at this short ‘making of’ featurette. I don’t know about vengeance, but the spirit of mayhem is infectious.

Yes, Idris, he is nuts. And I’m sure he’s laughing all the way to the bank…minus insurance premiums.  Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance with Nicholas Cage, Idris Elba and Ciaran Hinds roars into theaters across the planet on February 17, in 3D, of course.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Official Trailer #2

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Official Trailer #2

“…A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
He saw the riders coming hard… and he heard their mournful cry

Yipie i oh Yipie i ay
Ghost riders in the sky”.

I heard that song every time I looked at a poster or even watched a trailer for the first Ghost Rider movie(I can’t call it a film), and now that there’s a sequel, the damn song is back in my head. Damn you Nicolas Cage! *shakes fist* Anyway, we have trailer number 2 for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. (Why does every title have to have a colon in it these days? Help! I’m channeling Andy Rooney!)

In this one, Nicolas Cage as  Johnny Blaze, is hiding out in Eastern Europe and is called upon to stop the devil, who is trying to take human form. There’s something about protecting a child as well, apparently from one of the Wraith from Stargate Atlantis.

What is my beloved Ciaran Hinds doing in this mess? And what the hell kind of accent is Idris Elba trying pass off? Both of those actors are too good for this crap. I am very forgiving in most cases. I am aware, and try to bear in mind, that what’s on the page of a script or treatment is no guarantee of what will end up on the screen, and actors take a leap of faith every time they sign on for something, but c’mon! You cannot tell me that Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance sounded like a good idea to anyone but Nicolas Cage (and Neveldine/Taylor who are mad as hatters to begin with).

Watch the trailer and decide for yourself. Ghost Rider:Spirit of Vengeance opens February 17 in the US, Canada and the UK.

Nicolas Cage is on FIYAH in 1st Clip from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance!

Nicolas Cage is on FIYAH in 1st Clip from Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance!

At least I think that's Nicolas Cage. In Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the sequel to the 2007 film, Cage plays Johnny Blaze, still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter. The film follows Johnny Blaze as he hides out in Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse, when he is called upon by a secret sect  to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) and stop the devil (Ciaran Hinds), who is trying to take human form . At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy – and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

In this clip, Ghost Rider appears to be coming to the rescue of a damsel in distress who is being menaced by Johnny Whitworth. That's about all it tells us.The clip made its bow during the 2011 Scream Awards on Spike TV. Judging from the audience reaction, there are people who are psyched for this movie.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (CrankCrank 2:High VoltageGamer). The screenplay is by Scott M. Gimple & Seth Hoffman and David S. Goyer, based on the Marvel Comic. The film also stars Violante Placido (The American), Christopher Lambert and Idris Elba.
