Jeremy Irons Won’t Let Bradley Cooper Get Away with It in First Trailer for The Words

A Saturday Pot Full of Pretty Posters!

I’ve been waiting for this since we told you about the film during Sundance back in January. We have finally have a trailer for The Words with Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Irons, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde. What a cast. And it’s got a great premise:

Rory Jansen finally achieves long sought after literary success after publishing the next great American novel. There's only one catch – he didn't write it. As the past comes back to haunt him and his literary star continues to rise, Jansen is forced to confront the steep price that must be paid for stealing another man's work, and for placing ambition and success above life's most fundamental three words.

The Words revolves around Rory (Cooper), a struggling writer who claims another man’s long lost work as his own. Caught up in a dangerous conspiracy, the price he must pay is more than he could have ever imagined.

The trouble starts when Dora, Rory’s wife (Saldana) comes across “a valise” in an antiques shop. The valise contains a “lost masterwork” of a  “Hemingway-esque writer” played by Jeremy Irons.

A story within a story, this first trailer hints at a drama with some heft to it, something that will utilize the potential Bradley Cooper showed in Limitless.

The Words is both written and directed by Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal. The supporting cast includes Ben Barnes, John Hannah, J.K. Simmons, Michael McKean, Zeljko Ivanek and Ron Rifkin. We now have a US release date of September 21.  Still no word on the UK.

Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde are People Like Us

Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde are People Like Us

Back at the end of March we brought you the first trailer for People Like Us, the directorial debut of writer/producer Alex Kurtzman (Cowboys and Aliens, Star Trek, Fringe), is the story of Sam, a man who discovers his father had another family and after the father’s death, is tasked with delivering half of his inheritance to the sister he never knew he had. Thanks to a very likeable cast, headed by Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde and Michelle Pfeiffer, that first trailer gave me instant hope for this.

Check the featurette below (which is really more of an extended trailer) and see if you don’t agree:

“From DreamWorks Pictures comes ‘People Like Us,’ a drama/comedy about family, inspired by true events, starring Chris Pine (‘Star Trek’) as Sam, a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman, whose latest deal collapses on the day he learns that his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. In the course of fulfilling his father’s last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie whom he never knew about (Elizabeth Banks). As their relationship develops, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about this family–and re-examine his own life choices in the process.”

Written by Kurtzman and his usual writing partner Roberto Orci along with Jody Lambert, the likeable cast of People Like Us also includes Jon Favreau, Mark Duplass and an uncredited Phillip Baker Hall. It will be released in the US on June 29.

Tribeca Throws a Party for The Five Year Engagement!

Tribeca Throws a Party for The Five Year Engagement!

The Tribeca Film Festival kicked off in New York last night with a red carpet premiere for The Five Year Engagement. The happy couple Emily Blunt and Jason Segel were there along with costars Alison Brie, Kevin Hart and Dakota Johnson (Does she look like her mother Melanie Griffith or what?).  Also in attendance were some other New York-type peeps like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Andrew McCarthy and of course, the founder of the festival, Robert De Niro.

In addition to some pics, we have a couple of clips from the red carpet with Blunt and Segel, although not together. (Despite how much they praise each other in these vids, I couldn’t find one pic of them posing together. What’s up with that?)

The director and writer/star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall reteam for the irreverent comedy The Five-Year Engagement. Beginning where most romantic comedies end, the new film from director Nicholas Stoller, producers Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) and Rodney Rothman (Get Him to the Greek) looks at what happens when an engaged couple, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle.

The film stars, in addition to Blunt, Segel, Brie and Johnson, Rhys Ifans, Kevin Hart, Mindy Kaling, Chris Parnell, Mimi Kennedy, David Paymer and Jacki Weaver. It opens in the US on April 27, but not until 22nd June in the UK. Enjoy the pics and clips!

Chris Hemsworth Marries Olivia Wilde for the Rush

Chris Hemsworth Marries Olivia Wilde for the Rush

Back at the beginning of March we gave you your first look at Chris Hemsworth as Formula 1 racer James Hunt as he filmed scenes for Ron Howard’s Rush, a biopic of famed driver Niki Lauda.  Hunt was Lauda’s main rival during the 76-77 Formula 1 seasons. Weeks after the 1976 crash that almost claimed Lauda’s life, he got behind the wheel to challenge his rival.

While we still haven’t gotten a look at Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds) as Lauda, today we have more pics of Hemsworth as Hunt and on his wedding day no less.  A blonde Olivia Wilde plays ex-model Suzy Miller and these pics are from a scene filmed in London today on the steps of the church where Hunt and Miller have just been married.  (It’s a pity it wouldn’t last. If reel life imitates real life, Hemsworth’s Hunt will have been blind drunk in this scene.  Apparently he was a womanizing sex addict before anyone knew there was such a thing. Suzy Miller, meanwhile, would divorce Hunt during his biggest racing year and quickly remarry…to Richard Burton.)

In addition to the pics of Hemsworth and Wilde, there are a couple of the real Hunt and Miller below.

Enjoy the pics! Rush, with a script by the incredibly talented Peter Morgan (The Damned United, The Queen,  Frost/Nixon, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Last King of Scotland) and also starring Natalie Dormer, Christian McKay, Alexandra Maria Lara and Jamie Sives, is scheduled for release in 2013.

Appealing First Trailer for People Like Us with Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks!

Appealing First Trailer for People Like Us with Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks!

People Like Us, the directorial debut of writer/producer Alex Kurtzman (Cowboys and Aliens, Star Trek, Fringe), is the story of Sam, a man who discovers his father had another family and after the father’s death, is tasked with delivering half of his inheritance to the sister he never knew he had.

The first trailer makes this look enormously appealing, thanks to the presence of Chris Pine as Sam, Elizabeth Banks as his sister Frankie, Olivia Wilde as Sam’s wife Hannah and Michelle Pfeiffer (whom I am so glad to be seeing so often lately!) as Sam’s mother, Lillian, who apparently was in on the big secret the whole time.

Written by Kurtzman and his usual writing partner Roberto Orci along with Jody Lambert, the likeable cast of People Like Us also includes Jon Favreau, Mark Duplass and an uncredited Phillip Baker Hall. It will be released in the US on June 29.

Chris Hemsworth as Formula 1 Driver James Hunt Will Give You a Rush

Chris Hemsworth as Formula 1 Driver James Hunt Will Give You a Rush

It used to be that the only time the city of Indianapolis was exciting was during the month of May, when the Indianapolis Motor Speedway opened for business with its practice runs, weekends of time trials and the race, THE RACE, the Indianpolis 500, itself. As someone who grew up there (before the Colts, so all we had were the Pacers), I’ve long been fascinated by auto racing. Not NASCAR, but appropriately titled Indy – car racing. I don’t know much about Formula 1 racing other than it’s European which lends it a certain sophistication (in my eyes at least).

As far as cinematic forays into racing there have been a few well-made titles like Winning, Grand Prix and Bobby Deerfield, but all of those are more than thirty years old. There certainly hasn’t been anything lately. (The key being “well-made”. Sylvester Stallone tried with 2001's Driven. No. Just no.)

As far as Formula 1 goes, while the sport itself is dramatic it doesn’t really lend itself to the big screen. It's loud and until recent technology enabled on-board cams and the drivers to be miked, it was pretty solitary. After last year’s award winning documentary about Ayrton Senna, it seems the time is right to give it a go.

Ron Howard is directing a script by the incredibly talented Peter Morgan (The Damned United, The Queen,  Frost/Nixon, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Last King of Scotland) called Rush, which is a biography of Formula 1 champion driver Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl- Inglourious Basterds) and the 1976 crash that almost claimed his life. Mere weeks after the accident, he got behind the wheel to challenge his rival, James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).

We have your first look at Hemsworth on set as they film the Japanese Grand Prix, a race which played a big part in the rivalry in both the '76 and '77 seasons. Unfortunately, no Bruhl or any of the rest of the cast which includes Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara, Christian McKay and Natalie Dormer. By the way, The Daily Mail posted a pic of the real James Hunt and Hemsworth is a dead-ringer.

We’ll keep you posted on this one. No release date is known other than "2013",  but I’m encouraged. I am a huge Peter Morgan fan, as well as Ron Howard. If they keep the focus on the characters with the racing as dramatic backdrop, Rush has serious potential.

Pics from the Set of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone!

Pics from the Set of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone!

New Year, new movie: Here’s your first look at The Incredible Burt Wonderstone starring Steve Carell, Jim Carrey and Olivia Wilde.

After breaking up with his longtime stage partner, a famous but jaded Vegas magician (Carell), fights for relevance when a new, "hip" street magician (Carrey),  appears on the scene.

Longtime Las Vegas favorite, magician Burt Wonderstone (Carell), and his sidekick, Anton Lovecraft (Steve Buscemi), have allowed their show to grow stale, while up-and-coming Steve Haines (Carrey), is stealing the limelight.

Entitled, cynical and jaded, Burt finds himself out of a job and broke, while Anton heads to Cambodia to spread the joy of magic to hungry villagers. It takes Burt's original mentor, Rance Hanson (Alan Arkin), to talk sense into glum Burt, as well as a good kick in the keester by his adoring assistant, Jane (Olivia Wilde), to get Burt on track – back doing magic with all the zeal and passion that compelled him as a youngster…

The cast also includes James Gandolfini, Alan Arkin, Brad Garrett Jay Mohr and David Copperfield. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, cowritten by John Francis Daley (of Bones and Freaks and Geeks fame), is still filming and slated for a 2013 release. Check out some pics from the set below, including Olivia Wilde in some sort of red latex number that has the fanboyz of the interwebz bouncing off the wall, as well as those from Socialite Life where she looks normal (which is still way better than most of us mere mortals):

Bradley Cooper Goes Into The Words with New Poster and Pics

Bradley Cooper Goes Into The Words with New Poster and Pics

New Year, new movie: up next, The Words, which stars Bradley Cooper (who is another actor poised to have a great 2012 with four films currently in some stage of post-production and slated for release), Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid and Olivia Wilde. The above is the first poster and below we have some first pics.

The Words, which is scheduled to be the closing film of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival later this month, revolves around Rory (Cooper), a struggling writer who claims another man’s long lost work as his own.

The Words is both written and directed by Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal. In addition to being and actor, Klugman, as well as Sternthal have writing credits on Tron: Legacy. The supporting cast includes Ben Barnes, John Hannah, J.K. Simmons, Michael McKean, Zeljko Ivanek, Ron Rifkin, Liz Stauber, Gianpaolo Venuta, and Nora Arnezeder.

After its Sundance debut, the only release dates we have are for Belgium and the Netherlands in December. I’m thinking that will change soon.  I hope so. I’m very interested. We’ll keep you posted.
