First Clips from Huck Finn for the New Millennium: Mud with Matthew McConaughey

Tasty Tidbits, Posters and Pics!

Mud is another film I’ve been looking forward to since we brought you first word and the above pic back in November. Matthew McConaughey is the title character, a fugitive on the run following a crime of passion. Hiding out on a deserted island in the Mississippi River, he encounters two young boys who are exploring his island.  Mud, is McConaughey’s second film making its debut at the Cannes Film Festival. As an avowed Matty fan, I’ve often had to sheepishly admit to that fact. I’m very pleased to see that he seems to be finally living up to his potential (and doing it with his shirt on. We’ll discuss Magic Mike later.)

MUD is a coming-of-age drama centered around two fourteen-year-old boys who encounter a mysterious fugitive hiding out on an island in the Mississippi.  Intrigued by this man, they enter into a pact to help him evade capture and reconnect with the love of his life.  Though it is hard for the boys to discern truth from fiction when it comes to Mud, it isn’t long until their small Arkansas town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of hunters in tow.

Thanks to RopeofSilicon, we have two clips to share. The first is the boys’ initial contact and in the second, there appears to be some familiarity between the trio, but the boys are still understandably wary.

Mud is director Jeff Nichols’ follow-up to last year’s brilliant Take Shelter (for which he won the Critics Sidebar Award at Cannes) and among the talented players here, is Michael Shannon, star of that film. The love of Mud’s life, Juniper, is played by Reese Witherspoon. You might recognize one of the boys, Ellis, played by Tye Sheridan from Tree of Life. The cast also includes Sam Shepard, Sarah Paulson, Ray McKinnon and Joe Don Baker. No known release dates after Cannes, but no doubt that will change soon.

This Week’s Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron & More

This Week's Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron & More

Always a hit on the red carpet, this time Elizabeth Hurley dazzles the pink carpet at The Breast Cancer Research Foundation's 'Hot Pink Party' at The Waldorf Astoria in NYC on April 30, 2012.  No surprises here.  The model/actress was breathtaking in a dusty pink floor-sweeping shimmering gown from the Jack Guisso Spring/Summer 2012 Couture Collection.  The beadwork on the gown is exquisite, transitioning into linear patterns that hug her in all the right places, showing off her most enviable figure.  The Hot Pink Party is a cause close to Elizabeth's heart as she lost her beloved grandmother to breast cancer.  Wednesday night's event raised over $5 million dollars for breast cancer research!  Hats off to Ms. Hurley and all of those who have donated their time and money to this much needed cause!

How does one make an entrance when arriving at one of the most glamorous events of the year in Washington?  For Ivanka Trump, it was effortless.  The former model and now businesswoman served up a jaw-dropping moment in a Naeem Khan Fall 2011 silver sequined gown with cap sleeves and a plunging neckline that screamed "And this folks, is how it's done", when she arrived at the 2012 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner on April 28, 2012 in Washington, D.C.  Ivanka accessorized perfectly with a linked bracelet, hooped earrings and metallic clutch.  All I can say is, "Wow!"  Are you loving this look as much as I am?  A definite contender for our top picks of the year!

This Week's Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron & More

And no White House Correspondents' Association Dinner would be complete without the most beautiful and brightest television journalist in attendance.  In fact, the doors don't open until she arrives!  Anchor Diane Sawyer brought chic and sophistication to the red carpet at the event in a black asymmetrical cut-out shoulder jersey knit dress accessorized with gold clutch, black peep-toes, gold earrings and a most stunning gold wrap.  No word on who the designer of the dress is; however, my fashion radar is hovering over the Donna Karan label.

Adding a splash of colour at the 2012 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner red carpet was actress Kate Hudson who was stunning in a 60's inspired look in a purple sequined Jenny Packham gown featuring long sleeves and wide oval neckline.  Kate sealed it with a black clutch by Edie Parker, simple earrings and hair pulled into a high bun.  The dress fits Kate like a glove and its colour is as dazzling as she is.  Definitely one of the best looks of the night.  Washington will never be the same!

Actress Charlize Theron also graced the red carpet at the 2012 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in an Emilio Pucci Pre-Fall 2012 gown fit for a queen.  The all-lace dress fitted over nude lining features scalloped edged neckline, sleeves and flared hem.  Wisely, given the detail of the dress, Charlize wore her hair back in a simple bun with minimal jewellery, completing the look with Manolo Blanhik shoes and Judith Leiber clutch.  I'm quite looking forward to seeing Charlize in her upcoming film, Snow White and the Huntsman, in which she plays the evil Queen.  Now that's one role that's going to take some convincing.

Not one to shy away from colour, Elizabeth Banks stands out in a bright red strapless Antonio Berardi Fall 2012 gown on the red carpet at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.  The gown features a diagonally pleated peplum, slight train and cinched waist which emphasizes Elizabeth's svelte figure.  To complete her look, Elizabeth opted for a gold cuff bracelet, diamond hoop earrings, red platform heels and Lara Bohnic black and gold clutch.  Who said you couldn't wear red on the red carpet?

This Week's Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron & More

No leg baring antics here!  Also bringing glamour to Washington this week was Elle Macpherson.  Elle was nothing less than stunning in a gorgeous strapless silk organza and silk crepe Romona Keveza Fall 2012 couture gown which featured a pleated bodice neckline and a now-and-wow asymmetrical peplum.  This is an absolutely stunning gown and no one could be more perfect to wear it than Elle Macpherson.  In fact, it earns two pictures.  Elle completed her look with black pumps and clutch, diamond bracelets and chandelier-style diamond earrings.  (Who was that leg-flashing actress at the 2012 Oscars?  Oh, never mind.)  Definitely one of the Elle's best looks.

This Week's Fabulous Fashionistas Are: Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron & More

Completing this week's Fabulous Fashionistas is Reese Witherspoon.  The mommy-to-be brought Old Hollywood Glamour to Saturday's star-studded Washington gala in a Monique Lhuillier Spring 2012 gown which featured an asymmetrical neckline.  Reese completed her look with turquoise Irene Neuwirth earrings and cocktail ring and a 40's inspired side swept do in soft curls.  You can hardly tell that Reese is expecting in this gown.  And even if you could, I'm sure she'd be the most stunning expectant mommy on the red carpet.  Love this retro look on Reese; she suits it so well!

That's it readers for another week!  A very special thank you to Elizabeth Hurley for her support for breast cancer research.  And many thanks to the beautiful women who brought glamour to Washington!  Hope you enjoyed my picks.  Until next week, love, peace and happiness!

Reese Witherspoon Reportedly Pregnant With Baby #3

Reese Witherspoon Reportedly Pregnant With Baby #3

US Weekly is reporting that Reese Witherspoon is pregnant with her third baby courtesy of new husband Jim Toth. This really doesn't come as any surprise. She wanted a 'serious' man, a 'family' man and well, she's been looking like her tummy (and only her tummy) is expanding.

The newlywed turns 36 on Thursday, March 22, 2012 and has been married to Toth since March 26, 2011 and is reportedly around the 12 week mark. They've wasted no time, yes?

Baby number 3 will have Ava 12 as their big sister and Deacon 8 as their big brother. Those children she had during her marriage to Ryan Phillippe. Congratulations to Reese and her happy family.

This Means War Premiere Pics Plus Treats You Are Gonna Want to See!

This Means War Premiere Pics Plus Treats You Are Gonna Want to See!

Last night in LALA Land, Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine all showed up to Grauman’s Chinese Theater for the premiere of their new flick, This Means War.  Of course we have pretty pictures of the pretty people for you to ogle look at.

Not a huge Chris Pine fan, as I may have mentioned a time or two, but he was looking SHARP last night. Love the checks on checks with the polka-dotted pocket silk. Mmm Mm!  Tom looked a little scruffy, like a  moonshiner someone found in the Ozarks and stuffed into an expensive suit. Perhaps he’s doing reshoots for The Wettest County. I’m not saying he didn’t look good, but I’m always sad when I can’t see his gorgeous mouth. I’m shallow that way.

Not a fan of Reese’s dress, and don’t get me started on Chelsea Handler’s weird Where’s Waldo/Pippi Longstocking hybrid.  Actually I don’t want to talk about the women at all. Angela Bassett looked fantastic as did Melanie Lynskey. I want her cute pink shoes! For the record, Abigail Spencer, soon to be seen in Of Men and Mavericks with one Gerard Butler, is gorgeous!

I’ve decided I don’t care which man ends up with America’s sweetheart. She doesn’t deserve either one of them, not to mention from what I’ve been reading today, the movie has been marketed all wrong (*Kevin McAllister face slap* I’m shocked!) and it’s not actually a romance at all but a balls-out guys action comedy. Which frankly, THIS female would much rather see than some drippy rom-com anyway.

To that end, let’s get to the treats!

The first is another new clip from the film. We’ve seen parts of it before, but now we get more of the conversation wherein our heroes discover they are dating the same woman and what they PLAN to do about it. The clip is called “Gentleman’s Agreement”, but I think we know where we’ll end up.

The next clip is *NSFW* so put in the earphones and make sure the boss or the kiddies aren’t looking. It’s not THAT bad, but you can’t say I didn’t warn you. (For the record, UK sites don’t even need to post warnings. They’re okay with a little salty language and bare bums).  I can only hope this clip makes it to the special features of the dvd. I’m going to need to own this.

This Means War opens February 17. For reals. Enjoy the pics!

The Vow Debuts in LA, KOs This Means War Before Either Open

The Vow Debuts in LA, KOs This Means War Before Either Open

The Vow got a red carpet premiere last night in LA at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. On hand were stars Channing Tatum (who brought along the missus, Jenna Dewan) and Rachel Adams (who was, sadly, without beau Michael Sheen-at least on the red carpet) as well as the film’s director Michael Sucsy.

The Vow, rolls into theaters this Friday February 10 just in time for your Valentine’s Day viewing pleasure. As far as romance goes, it may be the only cinematic game in town. Despite the noise they made about moving the film TO Valentine’s Day, Fox has now punked out and pushed This Means War BACK to Friday February 17.  Apparently Fox is nervous because the film isn’t “tracking” as well as it they think it should.  There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding the decision but it signals a lack of faith in their product, in my opinion.  Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon can’t stand up to Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum??This  means This Means War must really be bad.  Regardless, they’d already spent the money and marketed the film for February 14 what difference will three days make?  (I’m in the event planning business. I tell clients all the time, the more changes you make, the greater the probability that something will get screwed up. I believe this applies here as well.)

Oh well, last night was about The Vow.  We have some pretty pics of McAdams and Tatum for your viewing pleasure. (And I didn’t even call him Tatum-tot.)

Nearly Nine Minutes of Tom Hardy…and Some Other People: This Means War

Tom Hardy Ruins Chris Pine's PG-13 Rated Date: New Clip for This Means War

What did I tell you? More goodies from McG’s This Means War have surfaced. This time they are in the form of an extended clip that gives us a much better idea of what we can expect from the film.

I have to say, after watching the clip below, which basically amounts to a few scenes sown together, some bits we’ve seen and a lot that we haven’t, I’m back on board with this movie. While I’m still a little disappointed by the fact that it’s rated PG-13, if all they did was trim a few of Chelsea Handler’s lines, then I don’t think we’re getting anything all different from what was originally intended.

I laughed out loud in a few places and what wasn’t outright hilarious was at least entertaining. There seems to be genuine chemistry between the participants and while no one has reinvented any wheels here, as far as “romantic” comedies or action comedies or whatever hyphenate you want to attach to this, go, This Means War does at least appear to be a well made example.

I particularly enjoyed the paint ball warfare scene, (I think we get pretty much the whole thing here) especially the blue “paint bomb”. And I still can’t figure out which one Witherspoon’s Lauren Scott ends up with! Actually, knowing that McG filmed three different endings, I’m leaning toward #3, wherein she ends up with neither of them. That would probably be the most realistic outcome after all of the hi-jinks come to light, and you know they will, but then again, realism is the last thing we should be looking for here. (Do we really want Tuck and FDR to end up in prison for misallocation of government resources? No. We do not.)

Enjoy the eight minutes and fifty eight seconds worth of Tom Hardy…oh yeah and Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon…and a little Chelsea Handler. (Courtesy of French site Allocine via AintItCool.)

Tom Hardy is British and Chris Pine Has Tiny Hands in This Means War!

Pick Your Valentine, Tom Hardy or Chris Pine or This Means War

New Clips have surfaced for McG’s This Means War! We’re into February now so the marketing campaign is gonna start getting serious. Fox has decided it wants a piece of the Valentine’s Day pie and it’s going after it with gusto.

“and Tuck? He’s British”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

EXACTLY!! On what planet would a woman consider Tom Hardy’s ‘British-ness’ a flaw?? That’s some Stretch Armstrong-type reaching right there. If that’s the only flaw she can come up with, he had better win this battle.  (Seriously, Tuck and FDR? What are they sock puppets? Who came up with those names? This movie is going to crush my soul, I just know it.)

This Means War opens on February 14. I guess I have to give up on that new poster, huh?

Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine Wage War in London!

Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine Wage War in London!

The impossibly attractive trio of Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine brought their new movie, This Means War to London’s Odeon Cinema Kensington tonight, January 30 for the World Premiere.

Not sure about Reese’s dress but her hair was fabulous. Okay, I’ll admit it, Chris Pine is cute. He’s got gorgeous eyes, but I’m sorry, If I had to pick between them, Tom Hardy would win, without a glimmer of a doubt.

So who does Reese end up with at the end of the movie? Not even the stars know. Apparently director McG shot three different endings so that the truth didn’t leak out before the release.

.Witherspoon told Empire magazine, "We shot endings where I could end up with Tom, or I could end up with Chris, or I could end up alone… ", while Pine deadpanned, "Or the one where Tom and I could end up together. It's a very progressive film."

Pine also admits there was plenty of rivalry on the set as he and Hardy competed with one another to impress Witherspoon. "It's like being in the schoolyard: a beautiful girl and two red-blooded guys. It was basically a constant flirt-off – who could charm Reese and make her laugh the most… Tom won on the accent and lips front. I won on eyebrows and self-deprecation…Ladies love the accent and I'm not packing any heat in that department. There'd be no shame losing to Tom. If I had to lose to anyone, it's fine if I lose to Tom Hardy. Of course, that would never happen. Ever."  I beg to differ…Not to mention he could probably f*ck you up six ways to Sunday.

In any case, we’ll all have to go to the theater on February 14th to find out the answer to the burning question of which guy gets the girl. (They certainly aren't giving anything away with their body language.) The suspense is killing me! Enjoy the pics!
