Ricky Gervais Urges World Wide Ban on Animal Testing

Ricky Gervais Urges World Wide Ban on Animal Testing

Long time animal rights activist Ricky Gervais has put his celebrity behind the Cruelty Free International organization whose aim is to ban the world from the unnecessary and cruel animal testing on cosmetics that still goes on.

He shares kisses with a bunny while talking about his role with the new non-profit organization:

“I am delighted to support the launch of Cruelty Free International, the exciting global campaign to end the use of animals in product testing. Animal testing for cosmetics is still allowed in most of the world. That means thousands of animals can continue to die for the sake of a new shampoo. We urgently need a worldwide ban on this cruel and unnecessary suffering.”

“It's time to close the door on testing products on animals.  Get involved. Please join me in supporting Cruelty Free International in its global mission to consign animal testing for cosmetics to the history books."

The site details the many tests animals are used for and how unnecessary that is given the advances in the medical and technological communities.

Do you make it a point to ensure the beauty products you buy are not tested on animals?

Ricky Gervais Is Ready To Offend at The Golden Globes Again

Ricky Gervais Is Ready To Offend at The Golden Globes Again

Let me preface this post with the fact that I personally did not find Ricky Gervais offensive at last year's Golden Globe Awards. Provocative perhaps, but isn't that his job as a comedian? My only beef was he didn't get nearly enough screen time, but that's just because I have it bad for Mr. Gervais.

Ricky Gervais is back to host Sunday's Golden Globes despite word that he would NEVER be invited back again. His reason for coming back? He was asked to.

He was surprised that so many people were talking about his performance and that he didn't think it was nasty at  all:

“I don’t think I was nasty,”“If they saw my stand-up, their heads would explode.”

But Ricky keeps it real and points out what is lost on the egomaniacs in the room:

“People say, ‘Is there anything you shouldn’t joke about?’ I don’t think there is,” “I just think it depends what the joke is. Comedy comes from either a good or a bad place and I was just teasing them, ya know.  It wasn’t a room full of wounded soldiers. These are the richest most privileged people in the world.”

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards airs live on NBC Sunday, January 15 at 8 EST/5 PST. Will you be watching? Check back here for all of your Golden Globe coverage including video and pictures.

Michael J. Fox Rocks the Waldorf Astoria!

Michael J. Fox Rocks the Waldorf Astoria!

Meanwhile, across the continent, other celebs were gathered to support actor Michael J. Fox and his 2011 A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's – Show held last night at the Waldorf Astoria Ballroom in New York City.

The event was hosted by The Daily Show’s John Oliver and featured Ricky Gervais as well as performances by Kid Cudi, comedian Mike Birbiglia, and the man of the hour Michael J. Fox with Joan Jett.  Gervais tweeted this about watching Fox perform: “watching Michael J Fox perform Johnny B Goode was a spine chilling magic f*cking moment.” I can only imagine that is was, for so many reasons. Fox and Jett performed Springsteen's “Light of Day” from their 1987 movie of the same name. Anyone else see it? I thought Joan was pretty good.

Fox and his gorgeous wife of 23 years(!), Tracy Pollan, brought their four children, including son Sam. Also in attendance was twenty four year old athlete Sam Fox (no relation to Michael – "Sam Fox meet Sam Fox") whose mother Lucy has Parkinson’s and in whose honor he just completed the 2396.5 mile Pacific Crest Trail in a fundraising effort called “Run While You Can” with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.

Ricky Gervais Joins ‘Spy Kids’ Film

ricky gervais

British funnyman Ricky Gervais has joined on the do the voice of the spy dog, Argonaut, in the fourth Spy Kids franchise: Spy Kids: All The Time in the World.

According to EW this instalment features Jeremy Piven, Jessica Alba and Joel McHale. Gervais says of the role:

“Not only am I lending my voice toSpy Kids, but they can keep it. I’m sick of it.”

The film is written and directed by hunky Robert Rodriguez and will be in theatres in August where, naturally, it’s in 3D.

Do you like the Spy Kids’ franchise? Will you be seeing number 4? Believe it or not I’ve not even seen one of them!

Jim Carrey Joining ‘The Office’ For Season Finale

Jim Carrey Going to 'The Office'

Jim Carrey is going to bring his very funny self to the set of The Office on NBC for the seventh season finale, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. OMG.  Steve Carell, Will Ferrell, AND Jim Carrey?!  I think I’ve died and gone to happy Heaven.

Oh and guess what else?  This will be an hour long episode!

So what is Jim going to be “doing” on the show?  Competing with Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Ricky Gervais, Ray Romano, James Spader and Catherine Tate for Michael Scott’s position in the office.  I am pretty sure that even if you’ve never seen an episode of The Office before, you HAVE to watch this one.  It’s going to be epic.

Ricky Gervais Doesn’t Find Chimpanzee Experiments Funny

British comedian (and hottie if you ask me) Ricky Gervais is pleading with the U.S. government to stop backing the experiments on chimpanzees at a Texas research laboratory.

One of the chimpanzees that Ricky is speaking for and that tugs at his heart is Rosie. She is one of the 14 chimpanzees at the laboratory who has been chemically immobilized 99 times by laboratory workers. Can you imagine what this poor girl has gone through? The 29-year-old chimpanzee was given a a reprieve from testing, but then the government moved her back into a laboratory cage.

Here is Ricky’s letter to the U.S. Government. If this strikes a cord with you, you can send a letter to the same person Ricky did:

I don’t mean to reduce such a very serious thing as these experiments to sex, but Ricky Gervais has it all going on: he’s cute, funny, smart and he’s a huge animal advocate! In the words of Paris Hilton: that’s hot! I can’t not deny this any longer.

In all seriousness, this practice needs to stop. I understand that science and advancement thereof is important, but chimpanzees are as close to a human as any animal is going to get. Can you imagine performing these experiments on humans? It’s just not right.

Ricky Gervais and Johnny Depp Collaborating (For Real)

Ricky Gervais shared some pretty fabulous news with us via his blog and I have to say, I am pretty stoked.  First of all, Johnny Depp is for sure going to be in the upcoming sitcom ‘Life’s Too Short,’ that will be co-written by Gervais.  Yes!  That is seriously, ridiculously COOL.

Ricky Gervais Invited To Host Golden Globes Again

Life’s Too Short‘ follows the exploits of a little person with a larger-than-life personality (Warwick Davis) who runs a talent agency for dwarf performers. The BBC2 series, in development now, is also expected to air on HBO in the States.

Okay, as if that wasn’t enough “happy” news for the day.  Ricky will be guesting on the season finale of The Office coming up on May 19.  OMG.  This is insane.  Will Ferrell…. Ricky Gervais…. BOTH!  I cannot wait!

Ricky Gervais Invited To Host Golden Globes Again

Despite all the controversy that followed Ricky Gervais‘ hosting gig of this year’s Golden Globe Awards, he has been asked to come back a third time. The Daily Mail quotes the funnyman as saying:

‘The ratings went up again, and the organisers asked me to consider a third year. (But) I don’t think I should. I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure.

The article goes on to quote him from his writings in this week’s Heat Magazine:

‘I did exactly what I went to do: improve on last year’s and have a laugh. The response was staggering. It was discussed on every news channel and chat show for weeks.

‘The weird thing is, the question is always, “Did Ricky go too far?” And the answer is always, “No.” I have yet to find anyone who was actually offended by it.’

His controversial jokes included a jab at closeted Scientology actors, Robert Downey Jr’s past drinking issues and Mel Gibson.

My only beef with the Golden Globes was there wasn’t enough Ricky Gervais.

Do you think he should host a third year?
