Pity the Poor Germans, Deprived of Robert Downey Jr’s Snappy Patter

Pity the Poor Germans, Deprived of Robert Downey Jr's Snappy Patter

There is another new international trailer for The Avengers, this one in German (via the film's German Facebook page), a perfect companion to the German trailer released in December. While we don’t get to hear the original actors’ voices, since they are dubbed, we are rewarded for watching, since this trailer is essentially the same as the English version released last week, with a bit more footage, which is always worthwhile. The earlier German trailer features even more material not in the English versions.

For the record, we need more of Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) strut. Just sayin'.

Both of these German trailers go a long way toward setting up the antagonistic relationship between Tony Stark/Iron Man (RobertDowney, Jr.) and Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans). Our friends at Comic Book Movie have taken the time to translate a bit of the sniping going on in these clips. The animosity is comes through very well in print and it’s pretty good in German, but I can only imagine how hilarious it will be when we get RDJ’s trademarked delivery.

Enjoy the trailers. The Avengers Assemble 27th April in the UK and The Avengers opens May 4 in the US and Canada.

New:

The dialogue for that new Stark vs. Rogers scene:

Tony Stark: … and following orders is obviously not my style.

Steve Rogers: And everyone knows that style is all you care about.

Tony Stark: From all the people around here, who wears the most figure-hugging outfit?

From the final exchange with Stark irritating Banner, as the latter examines what appears to be an extraterrestrial weapon:

Tony Stark: I promise a stress-free environment. No surprises. (zaps Bruce)

Bruce Banner: Ow!

Steve Rogers: Hey!

Tony Stark: You really got it under control, don’t you. What’s your secret? Relaxing Jazz, bongo drums?

Steve Rogers: Is everything like a joke to you?

Tony Stark: If it’s funny!

Mark Ruffalo is Worried but Robert Downey Jr is Bringing the Party in New Trailer for The Avengers!

What's In A Name? New UK Poster for Avengers Assemble!

This is shaping up to be one of the biggest, baddest, boldest, loudest, most kick-ass summer at the movies in recent memory. This new trailer for The Avengers, shows us that it will be a big part of that. Aimed at the UK market, it has the new title Avengers Assemble on display, but the content is no different.  (We just got word of the renaming yesterday. Couldn’t they have released this trailer then too?)

Is it wrong I’m kinda rooting for Loki? (Think that’s due to my new crush on Tom Hiddleston?) At the very least, I can’t wait to see him bring the suavely dangerous villainy. I’m also looking forward to watching actors of the caliber of Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo team with the likes of Robert Downey Jr and Samuel L. Jackson in a big comic book adventure. (Please tell me Hawkeye does talk. I don’t think we’ve heard anything out of him yet. Then again, this is the first we’ve ‘heard’ from Bruce Banner as well.)

Feast your peepers on this trailer and be psyched for the 27th April UK release or May 4 for us Yanks.

What’s In A Name? New UK Poster for Avengers Assemble!

What's In A Name? New UK Poster for Avengers Assemble!

There’s a new UK poster for The Avengers that has just dropped and it tells us that the film has been retitled for that market. Now, while this may seem like yet another arbitrary decision made for reasons known only to Marvel and Paramount, the new title, Avengers Assemble, is to distinguish it from two other incarnations of The Avengers, one the television show that originated in the UK and the other the forgettable film based on that series starring Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes that unfortunately, no one would want to be compared to. Neither of them had anything to do with Marvel comic book characters but there was also the possibility that in the UK (and I’m assuming other parts of Europe?)  Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow might be confused with Diana Rigg’s Emma Peel. (Although she’d more likely be mistaken for Uma’s Emma. In fact they look strikingly similar, but again, no one wants that.)

Whatever title they’ve put on it, it’s still the coolest and most inclusive poster that has emerged up to this point.

I’ve also included a couple of new images from the film, including a shot of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) conferring with Agent Coulson played y Clark Gregg as well as one of Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) Captain America (Chris Evans) and the aforementioned Black Widow striding purposefully down a hallway. Some have called that image cheesy, to which I reply this is a movie based on a series of comic books, no matter how well made it is, you can not completely eliminate the cheese-factor and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Avengers Assembled opens in the UK on 27th April and The Avengers opens in the US on May 4.

Marvelous Marvel News and Hi-Res Stills from The Avengers!

Marvelous Marvel News and Hi-Res Stills from The Avengers!

Marvel Studios has delivered some news about its upcoming slate.  Following on the heels of this year’s The Avengers, they have on deck Iron Man 3 with a  May 3, 2013 release date, as well as Thor 2 on November 15, 2013. Signs are pointing toward Captain America 2 in early 2014, but nothing’s been confirmed yet.

I know it seems like it’s been ages since we got any The Avengers goodies from Marvel, but today we have (thanks to ComicBookMovie) five hi-res official stills, including Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury, up close and personal.  (That is some vicious looking scar.)

From Marvel’s press release:

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012.

More Posters and Pics from The Avengers!

More Posters and Pics from The Avengers!

More shiny new images of everyone's favorite gang of super heroes, The Avengers! Yay! *demented poodle dance* Joss Whedon's eagerly awaited tie-in with Marvel's Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Thor movies arrives in theaters next May, but in movie promotion terms, that's right around the corner. We have another new batch of character posters for Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Bruce Banner aka The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), not an actual super hero, but rather the director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D.

We also have a couple of the Russian versions of the posters as well as a few new stills.

The premise:  An unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., finds themselves in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.   (dun dun DUN!)

The Avengers hits screens everywhere in 3D and 2D on May 4, 2012. (For reasons unknown to me, the 3D is a post-conversion.) Isn’t it about time for a new trailer? A clip? A tv spot maybe? C’mon Joss, you know you want to.

The Avengers Assembled! New Character Posters and Banners!

The Avengers Assembled! New Character Posters and Banners!

Avengers assemble! And apparently they have! The cast of Joss Whedon's The Avengers may be the best ever put together for a comic book movie and they’ve all been given their own character posters and then those were combined into cool looking banners.

I swear this movie is just bursting at the seams with testosterone filled goodness and they’re all just teasing me.  Chris Hemsworth as Thor with his hair rippling in the breeze, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Chris Evans as Captain America and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, all looking at the camera and giving it the sexy ‘Victoria’s Secret, over-the-shoulder (well, Evans is peeking out from behind his arm) come hither stare’. Jeremy Renner who plays Hawkeye and Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man looking at nothing and exuding macho, Mark Ruffalo who plays The Hulk (in Bruce Banner mode), he’s touching those glasses so we remember that smarts is sexy, right before he rips them off and goes all Hulk-like, Oh and then there’s Scarlet Johannson as The Black Widow in her skintight black leathers and big guns. I’m sure there’s someone out there stoked about that.

I’m still unclear on just what this movie’s about, other than “The S.H.I.E.L.D. agency brings together a team of superhumans to help save the Earth from annihilation by extraterrestrial invaders.” Oookay… Oh well, just keep giving us pretty pictures to look at and we’ll stay interested.

The Avengers is set for release on May 4, 2012 virtually everywhere.
