Canadian super talent and Lilith Fair founder, Sarah McLachlan is mad at work with Matt Morris writing for her new album that she says will be released in 2012! Fans of hers will agree that this is fabulous news.

Her most recent album release was Laws of Illusion which was released on June 15, 2010. This past June (2011) Sarah received an honorary degree (Doctor of Fine Arts) from Simon Fraser University for raising millions of dollars for various charities such as AIDS sufferers, inner-city children and women's charities.

We can't wait to hear what Sarah is working on!

Lilith Fair kicked off in Calgary last night where founder Sarah McLachlan performed along with Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu, Jennifer Nettles, and Kristian Bush. Sheryl’s son Wyatt was also on hand to give mommy his support. Because Sarah is the founder I wanted to feature her picture as the main one, but when it comes to kids and puppies they win out over grown-ups. That picture is too cute!

The original festival took place in the summers of 1997 to 1999.  During that time the tour raised more than $10 million for women’s charities in North America. It began as a result of Sarah’s frustration with radio stations not featuring two female artists in a row.  Can you effing believe that? Weree we allowed to vote back then?  If you think about it a majority of the great music you listen to nowadays is estrogen-infused. Holla bitches. We’re taking over the world. Ha!

Wow…this is a shocker.  Canadian songstress, Sarah McLachlan and her husband of 11 years Ashwin Sood, have ended their marriage.

Two songs from her latest greatest hits album (out October 7),”Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan,” that reflect her grief are:   “U Want Me 2″ and “Don’t Give Up on Us“ . 

She tells Billboard.com:

“I’m separating from my husband, so these are the songs about that,” McLachlan, 40,  “I wasn’t planning on saying anything,” McLachlan added, “but it’s gonna come out at some point. I haven’t said anything about it because I’ve been terrified to, but I figure … there’s no good time to say it, so I just said it.

Ashwin and Sarah have two children, both girls.  He is a drummer in her band.

She describes U Want Me To as:

“about that really uncertain, confusing place at the end of a relationship when there’s no communication or closure, everything’s still up in the air and there’s a lot of anger and sadness. It’s sort of that working through ‘How do we move forward … with some dignity and grace.”

And she says that Don’t Give Up,” is:

“pretty self-explanatory, basically just a plea to give it another chance and keep trying.” 

If there is anyone who can write a song and reflect on the grief or melancholy that one feels, it’s Sarah McLachlan, add to that her melodic voice and we will all be crying along with her songs.

She will be promoting the two new songs and is hoping to have a new album out within the next two years.
