Last week we showed you a first look at Take This Waltz, from indie Queen Sarah Polley, which debuted last fall at TIFF and has since traveled to a number of film fests before becoming one of the more popular films at Sundance. It stars Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams in yet another beautiful and nuanced performance. Her performance has been nominated for a Genie Award, which is Canada’s equivalent of the Oscars. It also contains what’s been described as a “career best” performance from Seth Rogan. (Apparently this is the year for those better known for comedic roles to expand their repertoires.) The script, written by the director (for her 2^nd feature), was part of the 2009 “Black List” which is a listing of the best as-yet-unproduced scripts in Hollywood for any given year.

Take This Waltz, has been described as a funny, bittersweet and heart-wrenching story about a woman struggling to choose between two different types of love within a surreal, fairy tale-like love triangle. Margot (Michelle Williams, always great) is in a loving five-year marriage with Lou (Rogen), a cookbook author with whom she shares a rickety, comfortable townhouse. On a work trip to Nova Scotia Margot meets Daniel (Luke Kirby), a handsome artist and flirt who turns out to live directly across the street from her and Lou. The more they try to stay away from each other, of course, the stronger the attraction becomes.

The supporting cast includes Sarah Silverman as Lou’s recovering alcoholic sister and Aaron Abrams as well as the city of Toronto, Polley’s hometown which she has painted with a light and airy brush full of color. Take This Waltz will get a limited release in the US starting June 29.

There is so much man meat traipsing around the streets of Toronto it’s difficult to know where to start the stalking, and who to focus on.

Zach Braff (okay I’m not into stalking him), Gil Bellows, Ryan Reynolds (hubba. hubba) and Ryan Phillippe (also worthy of a hubba. hubba) are seen outside of last night’s InStyle Party.

The lovely ladies seen outside the same party:  Sarah Silverman, Jill Hennessy, Malin Ackerman, Camilla Belle, Maggie Q, Charlotte Rampling and Missy Peregrym.

Missy is from Montreal and has been in a few things but of late she is starring in Rookie Blue.  If you have not seen that show you must! It is really well done and she is great and there are some very cute guys in that show.  I believe it’s an off-season series that only began this year and I am hoping and praying it continues on.

Sarah Silverman does lunch and almost her boyfriend at The Grove in Los Angeles much to the delight of the geriatric crowd in the background.  I would say that is probably the most action they’ve seen in a while, but rumour has it people in their seventies still get it on like rabbits.  No offense to elderly people everywhere (gawd willing we will all get old), but that is seriously an image I need to program the hell out of my head.

We know who isn’t f*cking Matt Damon anymore.

Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock both got honours for best actress at last night’s 15th Annual Critics Choice Awards with Sandra winning for her role in Blind Side and Meryl for her role in Julie & Julia.  Sandra said the win was an honour and went on to describe just how similar she and Meryl are:

“I love food and sex like Meryl. That’s how similar we are. You guys just didn’t notice it until now. Meryl is a good kisser”

The Hurt Locker received Best Picture and Best Director for Katherine Bigelow. It is the first time a woman has received the award. Ex-husband James Cameron was also up for the award for his movie Avatar, and gave her a standing ovation when she won.

Avatar won six awards including:  Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, BestSound and Best Action flick.

Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Stacey ‘Fergie’ Ferguson pose on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of Nine last night which opens in theatres Christmas Day.  The movie also stars Daniel Day Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson and Sophia Loren to name a few.
