Tom Cruise & Co Bring Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol to NY!

Tom Cruise & Co Bring Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol to NY!

The Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol World Tour rolled into New York last night, beginning the final leg of the media blitzkrieg at the Ziegfeld Theater (where else) on Monday December 19. Tom Cruise, looked very dapper indeed in a suit that matched wife Katie Holmes’ dress (love the pocket square). In the pic at the top, Katie looks like she lost a tooth but I chose it because I love the way ole Tommy is looking at her.  (Call me crazy, but I think they look happy. ) Costars Simon Pegg, Michael Nyqvist, Anil Kapoor and Josh Holloway all joined director Brad Bird on the red carpet.

Of course, no one is having as much fun on this press junket as Paula Patton. With or without hubs Robin Thicke (who she clearly missed the past couple of weeks), Paula was all smiles, giggles and girlish tics.

Then there’s our newest crush, Jeremy Renner (love the pinstripes!), who practically steals the movie out from under one of the world’s biggest stars. If he’s been hand-picked to take over this franchise (eventually), just as he’s Matt Damon’s successor in the Bourne series, then I think it will be in good hands.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is out in IMAX now. It opens in regular theaters tomorrow December 21.  Next stop LA tonight! (More pics tomorrow!)

Tom Cruise is Keeping Me Busy!

Tom Cruise is Keeping Me Busy!

Between the just released trailer for Rock of Ages (have you seen it yet? I’m thinking it will become one of my guilty pleasures), plus the continuation of the globetrotting Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol promo tour and then there’s the movie itself. It opens this Friday December 16 in IMAX before opening wide next Wednesday December 21. To that end, Paramount has released a new poster, that very cleverly has the iconic lit fuse morphing into the silhouette of the Burj Khalifa, which has become synonymous with the film. We also have two new clips, both of which showcase scenes that, I must concede, will look spectacular in IMAX.

The first is called "From the Outside" and it's an extended look at Cruise’s Ethan Hunt preparing to scale the world's tallest building using 'sticky gloves'. (Sticky gloves?!? Who was the first person to use those? I could not be convinced to do this even if Gerard Butler was waiting for me at the end of it.) Watch that first step, it's a doozy…

>

The second is called “Sandstorm Chase”, but it could also be called “Best use of GPS…EVER!”

The incredible stunts, most of which Cruise continues to perform himself, are what makes this franchise stand out. With each new film they up they manage to up the adrenaline rush. I sat here cringing and rocking back in forth in my chair as I watched as if I were dodging debris and flying cars. IMAX has got to be like that x 10K.

In case you missed it, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the fourth installment in the series, finds Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his Impossible Missions Force team disavowed, on  the run and forced underground following after someone tried to blow up the Kremlin. While trying to clear their names, they have to find out who’s responsible. Paula Patton, Jeremy Renner, Simon Lea Seydoux, Michael Nyqvist, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor and Tom Wilkinson costar.

Russians Show Tom Cruise No Hard Feelings for Blowing Up Kremlin!

Russians Show Tom Cruise No Hard Feelings for Blowing Up Kremlin!

Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol Road Show rolled into Moscow today for a photocall and then the red carpet premiere (it’s already well over since they’re eight hours ahead of us here in EST). The Russians appeared not to hold a grudge for the fact that the Kremlin gets blown up in the first reel of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. That’s not a spoiler, it’s in the trailers. Whether they were paid to swarm Cruise and co. (as is alleged re: the crowd in Dubai), I don’t know, but the crowds were there to greet Tom Cruise, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg and director Brad Bird. They seem to have lost Anil Kapoor somewhere over the Caucasus’.  Oh well, the throngs look sincere.

The international leg of the tour over with, cast and crew will head back to the states. Although Tom won’t have Oprah’s couch to jump on anymore, he’ll still be making the rounds of the chat shows when the press tour starts its domestic swing next week.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens in IMAX December 16 and wide on December 21.

Tom Cruise Premieres Mission: Impossible

Tom Cruise Premieres Mission: Impossible

Tom Cruise, the man, the myth, the legend, along with his Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird and costars Paula Patton, Simon Pegg and Anil Kapoor, gave the new film its world premiere last night in Dubai as the opening night gala of the 8th Annual Dubai International Film Festival. The setting was only fitting as a crucial set piece in the film revolves around Cruise jumping out of and back into, climbing on and around, the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, located in Dubai. (Not upon pain of death could anyone get me to agree to that. My hat’s off to you Mr. Cruise.) Also joining the cast and crew was Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Cruise was mobbed as he arrived for the premiere (some are claiming that the mob was comprised of “extras” paid to swarm the star), before assembling with cast members, his director and producers at the Madinat Jumeriah Complex for the film. Earlier in the day, on the Level 124 observation deck of the Burj Khalifa tower they’d all met for a photo call. 124. I’m getting dizzy just thinking about that (and it’s not even the top floor! There are 160. Seriously, forget Vertigo. Did no one else see The Towering Inferno??).

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol is in IMAX theaters from December 16. It opens in regular theaters in the US and Canada on December 21, 26th December in the UK. Enjoy the pics!

Simon Says Watch This Featurette from Mission: Impossible

Eight Character Posters for Mission:Impossible-Ghost Protocol!

Simon Pegg, who as far as I’m concerned can do no wrong, stars as techno-geek Benji Dunn in Mission:Impossible – Ghost Protocol. We have a new featurette from the film that basically features Pegg talking about his character, the film and his experience making it.

I have to say, I’m with Pegg. Much like 007's theme, whenever I hear the theme for Mission:Impossible, in any of its incarnations (all variations on Lalo Schifrin's theme for the iconic television series), I know I'm in for a wild ride, and I admit, there are certain situations when it does run through my head as well.

Mission:Impossible-Ghost Protocol  looks like all kinds of badass cool. It starts with someone blowing up the Kremlin! Of course, Ethan and his team are implicated, causing the team to 'go rogue' (sorry that phrase has been ruined for me) to clear their organization's name. It may well end up being the best in the series. as well. As I’ve said before, Tom Cruise, crazy or not, is not only the benchmark that other actors of his generation should strive for in terms of aging gracefully, but for proving that you're never too old to kick some ass. The lengths he goes to for his films, especially for an actor with his status is astounding. You’ve seen the clip of him scaling the Burj Khalifa, right?

This time out the IMF team, includes Jeremy Renner as Brant, Paula Patton as Jane Carter, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell as well as Simon Pegg’s Benji Dunn. Lea Seydoux, Josh Holloway, Tom Wilkinson, Michael Nyqvist, Anil Kapoor and Vladimir Mashkov round out the cast. MI4, which I’ve chosen to call the film, opens in IMAX on December 16 and comes to regular theaters on December 21. Don’t forget, attached to Mission:Impossible – Ghost Protocol will be the first six minutes of The Dark Knight Rises, so don’t skip the previews!

Simon Pegg Tries to Convince Jeremy Renner to Jump Into An Oven in New Clip from Mission:Impossible – Ghost Protocol!

Poster for Mission:Impossible-Ghost Protocol!

In this new clip from Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the first that doesn’t feature star Tom Cruise in any way, Simon Pegg’s Benji Dunn is outlining a part of their plan, in an effort to clear their IMF team’s name, that involves Jeremy Renner’s Brandt making a jump inside a supercomputer. Of course the computer has been switched off so will essentially be as hot as an oven and will feature a 25 foot drop. But Benji will catch him.

In the latest installment, which comes fifteen years after the first film in the franchise (boy do I feel old), the IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremilin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new IMF team to go “rogue” to clear their organization’s name, initiating “Ghost Protocol”: No help. No backup. No choice

Mission:Impossible – Ghost Protocol also stars Cruise, Paula Patton, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Lea Seydoux and Anil Kapoor star. It opens in  IMAX on December 16 before all other theaters in the US and Canada on December 21st and 26th December in the UK. (If you needed another reason to see this, don’t forget about the six minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises that will be attached to this.)
