U2′s Bono & The Edge Support Christy Turlington

U2′s Bono and The Edge attended the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of No Woman, No Cry along with their spouses, Ali Hewson and Morleigh Steinberg respectively to support their friend Christy Turlington.

No Woman, No Cry marks the directorial debut of model Christy Turlington whose documentary:

shares the powerful stories of at-risk pregnant women in four parts of the world, including a remote Maasai tribe in Tanzania, a slum of Bangladesh, a post-abortion care ward in Guatemala, and a prenatal clinic in the United States.

Her husband, hunky Edward Burns, of course was there.

Madonna and Sting pose backstage at last night’s two-hour Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief that George Clooney put together along with Wyclef Jean to raise money for this devastating tragedy.

The show opened with Alicia Keys singing Prelude to a Kiss and saw some very remarkable performances by Madonna, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Shakira, Bono, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Coldplay and more.  I’ve included some pictures of some of the performances but if you missed any of them my friend at Busy Bee Blogger has all the videos.  You really should watch the performances if you missed any of them.

  • Ellen DeGeneres
  • Fran Drescher
  • Jennifer Aniston
  • Gerard Butler
  • Jeremy Piven

And lots more.  I’ve also included some pictures of celebrities arriving at the event as well as backstage.

If you didn’t donate and wish to, the wonderful people at ONTD have put together a very comprehensive list of the many different organizations you can donate to with website addresses and telephone numbers along with how much money ONTD has raised and how that can help the people of Haiti.

Natalie Portman Premieres ‘Brothers’

full_natalie_portman_6_wenn2667088

Natalie Portman and costar, Tobey Maguire are at the New York premiere of their movie Brothers where:

A young man comforts his older brother’s wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan. Based on Susanne Bier’s film, “Brothers”

Jake Gyllenhaal also stars in the movie but wasn’t at the premiere.  Boo.   The movie looks good, but potentially a major tear jerker.

During her promotional tour, Natalie explained her reason for agreeing to star in Thor:

I just thought it sounded like a weird idea because Kenneth Branagh’s directing it, so I was just like, “Kenneth Branagh doing Thor is super-weird. I’ve gotta do it.”

At the premiere:

  • Agyness Deyn
  • The Edge
  • Amanda Peet
  • Emma Roberts
  • Terrence Howard
  • Katherine McPhee
  • Justin Guarini
  • Kelly Rutherford
  • Charlie Bewley
  • Rachel Roy
  • Olivia Palermo
  • Cheyenne Jackson

U2 Rocked Toronto

156

So I went to see U2 last night at the Rogers’ Centre in Toronto and was part of a crowd of approximately 63,000!

The concert was incredible.  Snow Patrol opened for them and they were great, and loud!

Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton came out on stage at approximately 8:45 p.m. and didn’t leave until about 11:15.  We were on our feet from the moment they hit the stage, it was such a party.  I’ve included a playlist from their Chicago stop and I think (although I’m quite brain dead today) it’s pretty much the order of what was played in Toronto.

1 Breathe
2 No Line on the Horizon
3 Get On Your Boots
4 Magnificent
5 Beautiful Day/Blackbird (Beatles snippet)
6 Elevation
7 I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For/Stand By Me (Ben E. King snippet)
8 Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of
9 Unknown Caller
10 The Unforgettable Fire
11 City Of Blinding Lights
12 Vertigo
13 I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight
14 Sunday Bloody Sunday/Oliver’s Army (Elvis Costello snippet)
15 Pride (In The Name Of Love)
16 MLK
17 Walk On/You’ll Never Walk Alone (snippet)
18 Where The Streets Have No Name

Encore
19 One
20 Bad/40 (snippet)

Second encore
21 Ultra Violet (Light My Way)
22 With Or Without You
23 Moment of Surrender

I wasn’t too close to the stage, and was not using a great camera, so the pictures aren’t of them in person but of them on the screen above the stage.  The stage, as you will see was out of this world.

The Rogers’ Centre has a retractable roof (that was left open for the concert) where when you look up, you see our world famous CN Tower (I’ve included a picture of it).  It was a beautiful night and U2 did not disappoint.
