The cast of the new action/adventure thriller Safe House turned out in New York City on Tuesday night February 7 for a red carpet premiere at the SVA Theater.  Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds posed for pictures along with Vera Farmiga (who brought along little sister Taissa, who made a splash in FX’s American Horror Story this year.) Denzel was with beautiful wife Pauletta (she’d probably kick his ass if he didn’t bring her) but luckily there was no sign of Ryan’s current squeeze.

The news of the night was a genuine smile from Reynolds as opposed to a bored smirk. For the most part he looked like he’d rather be somewhere else.

Safe House is about a green CIA agent (Reynolds) who is tasked with looking after a fugitive (Washington) in a safe house in South Africa. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Liam Cunningham, Sam Shepard, Robert Patrick and Joel Kinnaman.  It opens Friday February 10 in the US and 24th February in the UK. Enjoy the pics!

New Year, New Movie: Closer to the Moon from director Nae Cranfil stars Mark Strong, Vera Farmiga, Harry Lloyd and Christian McKay. The film follows a group of former Jewish Nazi Resistance fighters who turn their skills and attention to fighting the communists. They're arrested for robbing a bank under the guise of staging a film shoot and are sentenced to death. Prior to execution, they are forced to reenact their crime for a propaganda film. Lloyd plays the cameraman, Strong is the leader of the revolutionaries and Farmiga, his lover and the mother of his child.

Official synopsis:

Bucharest 1959. A spectacular Bank heist has the country in an uproar. In post-war Communist Romania it is an unimaginable slap in the face to the iron fisted authorities. Four men and a woman are arrested, tried, convicted and while waiting for their execution… are forced to star in a propaganda film about the crime. All five protagonists were heroes of the resistance during the Second World War and highly placed members of Romanian society. They clearly knew they would be caught and executed.

Closer to the Moon was filmed on location in Romania. Shooting wrapped in November and it's currently in post-production due for a 2013 release. Thanks to MarkStrongOnline, we have some pics!

Talk about dropping the bread crumbs. It was just the other day we first told you about Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.  We told you about the synopsis:  A CIA-operated safe house is targeted by a group of bad guys, the facility's house-sitter is tasked with the dangerous job of moving the criminal who is being hidden there to another secure location. At that point, it was purely speculation that Reynolds would play the sitter and Washington the criminal (Helped in no small part by the poster).

Well, now we have a trailer. Remember how I said we shouldn’t necessarily be put off by its February release date, and that it could be a lot of fun? Take a look at this. It gives a lot away but, I still think you’ll agree with that assessment. Safe House looks like a terrific thrill ride and a good excuse to get out of the winter chill and sit in the dark and munch popcorn.

 “…went rogue”.  I’m shaking my head. It is such a shame that any phrase with that word in it has been permanently ruined. It will forever induce snickers from now on, whenever I hear it. Maybe in the context of the film Vera Farmiga can pull it off.  Safe House costars Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepherd, Liam Cunningham, Robert Patrick and Joel Kinnaman. 

Vera Farmiga, who is due very soon, rocked her baby bump at last night’s opening of the Metropolitan Opera Season, with the new production of ‘Das Rheingold’ in the Lincoln Center New York City. Last week she told People that she didn’t know what the baby’s gender was:

“We don’t know what we’re having yet. I just want to have a healthy baby”

Her son realizes he’s going to have a sibling:

“I get the feeling he’s starting to [realize he’s going to have a sibling] because when I [show him my stomach] and say, ‘Baby. Baby. This is going to be your baby sibling,’ he repeats the word baby. He presses his mouth [to my belly], takes my shirt and goes, ‘Close. Close,’ to kind of distinguish the idea of there being someone else in my life.

And any sibling rivalry or jealousy probably isn’t going to be an issue:

“He has such an amount of patience when he is around other children. He has as much energy [as other kids], but I just see, for example, how he deals with toys being taken from him,” she notes. “He’s super cool about it. He’s suave and relaxed and if someone grabs a toy, he’ll take what’s fallen by the wayside. It’s a remarkable quality to have. He’s got a spirit that’s just so relaxed.”

Also attending last night’s event were Meg Ryan (I really wish she would grow her hair long again), Holly Hunter (do you see that woman’s arms? The arms are Madonna-like, yet not as scary), Kerry Washington, Rachel Roy and others.

One of my favourite actresses Kate Winslet poses with Colin Firth (who I must say is growing on me in recent days) and it looks to be a mutual admiration society of these two.  Colin Firth won for Leading Actor in A Single Man.

Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker cleaned up at the BAFTAs with six wins including Best Picture and Director beating out ex-husband James Cameron for Avatar (which btw I saw it this weekend for the first time and it is as great as everyone says it is). Cameron has been very vocal about his support for his ex-wife which is fabulous. This, of course only adds to the Oscar buzz considering she has won a Producers Guild Award, Critics Choice Award, Writers Guild Award and a Director’s Guild Award in various categories for The Hurt Locker.

It’s difficult to have one favourite dress when so many women looked so gorgeous last night.  Some of my favourites were Kate Hudson, Emily Blunt, Heidi Klum, Fergie, Calista Flockheart, Helen Mirren, Vera Farmiga, and Sofia Vergara to name but a few.  However I have to say that Penelope Cruz really stood out to me.  She looked like a princess.

George Clooney attended the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Up in the Air’ with the two most important women in his life: his mom Nina Warren Clooney and his lady love Elizabetta Canalis.  From the look on mommy’s face, she approves of George’s latest lady.

The film centres on George’s character, Ryan Bingham, who goes around the country firing people.  Director (and writer) of the film, Jason Reitman tells WENN that he was impressed with the real-life people who agreed to be filmed sharing their personal experiences:

“I approached the shooting of the film when we were having one of the worst recessions on record. I had to adjust how to do these firing scenes (in the film), so satire just didn’t work anymore.  ”We were shooting in St. Louis and Detroit, two cities that just got pummelled and I put an ad out in the paper asking if there were people who lost their jobs and if they wanted to be in a documentary about job loss.  ”We said it was a documentary to weed out actors who were trying to sneak into the film. We had a startling amount of responses. I ended up putting 60 people on camera, 22 of which made the film.

“We interviewed them about what it was like to lose their job in this economy and then we’d fire them on camera and ask them to respond the way they did when they lost their job, or, if they preferred, the way they wish they had responded. It was an incredible experience to watch these non-actors improvise with 100 per cent realism. ”I don’t think I’ll use trained actors in the future.”

Cindy Crawford looks absolutely breathtaking at the premiere with her handsome hubby Rande Gerber.  The shoes are fierce, yes?  Also attending:
