Abraham Lincoln was the Batman of the 19th Century: BTS with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

Abraham Lincoln was the Batman of the 19th Century: BTS with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

“Abraham Lincoln, Vampires, Timur, Loud…that’s the kind of movie I want to see.” – Tim Burton.
“{Lincoln} was the Batman of the 19th century…because he was ordinary and extraordinary at the same time.” – Timur Bekmambetov.

We have a mini featurette for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. This is basically the first trailer intercut with some remarks by the filmmakers and a few brief glimpses of some behind-the-scenes moments. Not that I’m complaining by any stretch. This movie is near the top of my “must see” list this year. The producers seem intent on getting us pumped and keeping us there since we’ve been getting quite a few little goodies, in the form of posters, pics and trailers, of late.

The movie centers on the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war – and ultimately to the presidency – he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter costars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk and Rufus Sewell. It hits theaters June 22  in the US and Canada and 2nd August in the UK. Enjoy the video. That's a new pic, from Fox at the top of the post as well, featuring Rufus Sewell and Erin Wasson. More will surely follow soon!

Sam Mendes Says Daniel Craig is a Real Man

Sam Mendes Says Daniel Craig is a Real Man

As promised, here’s the first video blog from Skyfall director Sam Mendes. Skyfall is currently shooting in London with Daniel Craig making his third outing as James Bond and Dame Judi Dench returning as M.

I actually wouldn’t call this a “video blog” at least how we’ve come to know them from Peter Jackson’s use of the term and the medium to document the making of The Hobbit films. There’s no footage of the actual film, none of Dench, and only a fleeting glimpse of Craig, no sneak peeks at Ralph Fiennes or Javier Bardem. It seems to be  more of a Mendes interview, in which he mentions his personal feelings about Bond and the legacy he’s been handed, as well as Daniel Craig as Bond in particular.

I’m making two assumptions based on this clip. One it’s probably only the start of updates we’ll be getting (that might be wishful thinking on my part), as I think Mendes has decided if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, or at least control the flow.  I also think this is probably part of a “making of” for the dvd release. We’ll see. I can’t think about dvd now. That’s a year away. I’m too excited for Skyfall’s theatrical release this fall.  Even though it’s still shooting, Skyfall hits theaters in the UK on 26th October and November 9 here on this side of the pond.

Enjoy the video. We also have a few more pics of filming in the past few weeks. (I'm kind of partial to the one at the top of the post. I'll let you figure out why.) More will surely follow.

Lucy Liu Needs a Drink. New Clip from Detachment!

New Trailer and New Poster for Adrien Brody in Detachment

There’s a new clip for Tony Kaye’s Detachment with Adrien Brody. I can’t believe how long we’ve been talking about this film. Luckily it will finally be available via VOD, iTunes, and Amazon starting on Friday February 24 before being released to a limited number of theaters on March 16.

Once again, the synopsis:

"Director Tony Kaye’s (AMERICAN HISTORY X) long-awaited film Detachment stars Academy Award® winner Adrien Brody as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who conveniently avoids any emotional connections by never staying anywhere long enough to form a bond with either his students or colleagues. A lost soul grappling with a troubled past, Henry finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Inadvertently becoming a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is, Henry finds that he’s not alone in a life and death struggle to find beauty in a seemingly vicious and loveless world.

Kaye has molded a contemporary vision of people who become increasingly distant from others while still feeling the need to connect. Detachment features a stellar ensemble cast, including Academy Award® winner Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, William Petersen, Bryan Cranston, Tim Blake Nelson, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, and newcomers Sami Gayle and Betty Kaye."

The clip (courtesy of JoBlo) is called "ADHD" and focuses on Lucy Liu. It's a stunning commentary on the state of public education in this country. (How amazing is she on Southland this season? Fantastic addition)

An Invitation to the Set of Game of Thrones and Character Posters!

An Invitation to the Set of Game of Thrones and Character Posters!

I am getting so excited for the new season of Game of Thrones! Every new crumb that HBO drops makes me follow them blindly, a line of drool running from my mouth as I salivate for more. (Not a pretty picture, I grant you, but nonetheless true.)

Today we have character posters with up close glimpses of  some of the best characters from season one, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Tyrion Lannister (the award-winning Peter Dinklage), Cersei and Jaime Lannister (Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Khal Drogo and his Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen (Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke) (*sniff* Sorry still in mourning.)

Not having read the books, I don’t know exactly what’s on deck for Season 2, other than the portentous “War is Coming”, the tagline that replaces last season’s “Winter is Coming”. I’ve also gleaned some from the featurettes we’ve been given. I know that little Arya is not so little anymore and has a bigger story. I know that all of the houses of the Seven Kingdoms are preparing for war since each has what they consider to be a rightful claim to the Iron Throne, and I know that there are A LOT of new characters being added, for instance Carice van Houten as Melisandre and Stephen Dillane as Stannis Baratheon, Gwendolyn Christie as Brienne, Patrick Malahide as Balon Greyjoy and Liam Cunningham as Ser Davos Seaworth, just to name a few.

HBO has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes featurette called “An Invitation to the Set” and you can view it below. Game of Thrones returns on Sunday April 1. More to come, I’m sure!

Channing Tatum & Jonah Hill Attempt to Do Each Other: New Clip from 21 Jump Street

Channing Tatum & Jonah Hill Attempt to Do Each Other: New Clip from 21 Jump Street

We have a new clip from 21 Jump Street with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill just perfect for your Friday morning viewing pleasure. I really should not have laughed at this. I know it and I feel dirty about it, but I did. Sitting here in my office, I had to clap my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing out loud. I also have to admit that Tatum-tot continues to grow on me. This may in fact be a role that fits him like a glove. And after his somber turn in Moneyball, aren’t we just glad to see Jonah Hill being a goof ball?

Here’s the synopsis so that you can put the clip into some sort of context (if you must):

“In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.”

Now take a look at this:

Did you laugh or is it just me and I need more caffeine?

21 Jump Street also stars Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Ellie Kemper, Rob Riggle, and reportedly a cameo from Johnny Depp  (of the original 80s TV series). It opens March 16 in the US, Canada and the UK.

Leaping Earthlings! First Clip from John Carter!

New Banners and Character Pics for John Carter!

And for your daily John Carter, the special on today’s menu is the first clip from the film with a nice dollop of Mark Strong for your viewing and listening pleasure!

Thanks to Disney (via ComicBookMovie), we can show you an action packed thirty seconds of this epic film. In it John Carter makes a huge leap onto a boat while carrying Deja Thoris, or as Matai Shang calls her, “the red woman”.  I guess since he’s kind of a pale blue, she would look odd to him. There are also a bazillion Martians of some sort as well.

John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, Ciaran Hinds, Samantha Morton, Polly Walker, Thomas Haden Church and Bryan Cranston. It’s poised to dominate this world beginning March 9.
