You are probably well aware by now that 36 year old  DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) was found dead in his New York apartment.  I was watching TV last night and saw the headline and could not believe what I was seeing.

TMZ and others are reporting that a crack pipe and prescription drugs were found by his body and that he had been battling post traumatic stress syndrome from his plane crash of a year ago.  People is reporting that he had been very depressed over the split with his girlfriend.  According to a source:

“She ended it, and he didn’t want it to end. The breakup hurt him. He hadn’t been in a good place lately. For the past week, he wasn’t really around, he was keeping to himself, and he was blowing people off,”

He was not blowing off his DJ responsibilities and in fact worked last Friday at Rain Nightclub in Las Vegas, and on Tuesday evening he was in the DJ booth at the Atlantic City club Dusk (he was a part owner of the club).

This was his last posting on Twitter which he wrote on Thursday:

“New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york ain’t always what it seems.”

DJ AM, Dustin Hoffman, Denzel Washington, Adam Sandler, Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Wahlberg with his daughter all hit The Staples Centre to watch the L.A. Lakers against the Boston Celtics.

How cute is Mark Wahlberg and his daughter?  Clearly daddy’s little girl!!

I don’t know a lot about the sport, but I’ve seen it in person a couple of times, and to me, basketball is incredible to watch live.  The endurance and power the players have to have to run as much as they do within a game is incredible to me!!  It also means they have great, ahem, stamina.  I’m just saying….

At a press conference this morning  Dr. Fred Mullins, Medical Director at Georgia’s Joseph Still Burn Center, announced that Travis Barker and DJ AM both have second and third degree burns.

Mullins confirmed that Barker has burns on his torso and lower body and Goldstein has burns on his arm and part of his head.  He indicated that both are expected to make a full recovery and that anyone that survives a plane crash is very lucky (no kidding).

He also read a statement:

The families wish to thank fans from all over the world for their prayers and concern. Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of those who perished in the crash. As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them, their families and friends is requested at this time.”

Contrary to what was reported earlier, Baker’s (Travis’ assistant) wife was not in labor and they were not rushing home because of that.

US Magazine has included the following to send well wishes:

Update

Shanna Moakler (Travis’ ex-wife) has not told the children and has rushed to be by his side and said to be devastated.  She spoke with him on Friday night.  He was defiant and did not want to be transported via helicopter and as a result they had to knock him out.  Shanna’s mother, Gail, will be taking care of the children and said they are waiting to tell the kids:  “We’re waiting a bit to see what God brings,”

She expressed how very close the two are despite the divorce, and that there was/is a lot of love there.  Married since 2004, the couple divorced earlier this year and have 2 children:  son Landon, 4, and daughter Alabama, 2.
DJ AM’s sister Lara and her husband Benjamin have flown out to be by Adam’s side.  They were also waiting to hear more.   DJ’s ex-fiance Nicole Richie is said to be in shock as his her boyfriend, Joel Madden who also knew Adam.  And both are horribly upset about it.

Both are in critical but stable condition in a burn centre in Augusta, Georgia, about 75 miles southwest of Columbia. 

The reason they were on this flight?  Travis Barker’s assistant, Chris Baker wanted to rush home as his wife was going into labor, and Travis did everything in his power to get him home in time for the blessed event.  Apparently Travis Barker normally will not fly private planes.

According to People: 

The Learjet carrying six people that crashed after midnight Friday was just over one year old and chartered from Global Executive Aviation in Long Beach, Calif., according to Columbia Metropolitan Airport spokesperson Lynne Douglas,

“The crash was the result of an overrun on its flight to Van Nuys [Calif.],” says Douglas, who attended a National Transportation Safety Board press conference Saturday afternoon in Columbia. “The NTSB is gathering information and fact finding to learn what happened in this tragedy.”
