Hilariously Foul Clip from Goon with Seann William Scott! *NSFW*
“It’s not the winning, it’s the taking apart of the other team that counts.”
New hockey comedy, Goon, looks pretty funny. (Director Michael Dowse is responsible for the under-rated indie comedy It's All Gone Pete Tong as well as the forgettable Take Me Home Tonight from earlier this year.) Maybe it's because I like hockey. Maybe it's because I liked the grand-daddy of hockey comedies, Slap Shot (with Paul Newman). I don’t know, but Sean William Scott seems born for this role. Kim Coates (who is so brilliant in "Sons of Anarchy") yelling at his players in the trailer is hilarious. And I absolutely love that big ole daddy bear Liev Schreiber is the villain. We have a new UK poster and a clip, thanks to HeyUGuys, with Jay Baruchel like you’ve never heard him before. More F-Bombs than the Blitz.
The synopsis is: "Goon is the story of Doug Glatt (Scott), a down-on-his-luck bouncer, who’s been touched by the fist of God. Upon discovering both his right hook and skates, he joins a hockey team destined for the cellar and inspires them into the playoffs." (Although if you aren't instantly hooked by the trailer it probably doesn't matter.)
Goon stars Scott, Schreiber, Coates, Baruchel, the wonderful Allison Pill and Eugene Levy. It was picked up by Magnolia’s Magnet Pictures and opens on January 6 in the UK, February 24 on VOD and 30 March in limited US theatrical release.
