Coverboys Fassbender, Craig, Damon and Clooney

Coverboys Fassbender, Craig, Damon and Clooney

Here are a couple of Humpday eye-openers to go with your java. I know you needed a little Fassbender…not to mention some Craig, a little Clooney and a side of Damon. I know I did. Now that the Shame World Tour has wound down, (oh and by the way, Michael just picked up another Best Actor prize for his role in that film, this one from the Rome International Film Festival in Capri) and what with the holidays and all, it’s been awhile since we’ve had any Fassbanger action. British GQ apparently saw a need and filled it. They’ve seen fit to give us a tease of the February issue of their mag with Fassy’s mug right on the cover. It’s a fantastic photograph and when I find a clean copy of it, I’ll be sure to share it. (I must see that suit! Holy crap is that a collar pin I see?)

British GQ knows what the hell they’re doing. (The American version is too enamored of hot chicks.) I wish they wouldn’t put so much copy on the cover, but when the stuff they’re advertising includes articles like the one from the January issue that had Daniel Craig calling the Kardashians “f*cking idiots”, I’ll not complain too loudly.

Speaking of teases, can we talk about the three-fer we get with the cover of the February issue of Vanity Fair? Holy Smorgasbord Batman! Craig and Clooney both look hotter than the face of the sun. Clooney, in particular, looks like he’s saying “Yeah, you know you this”. (Way to sell mags VF!) I wouldn’t ordinarily put Matt Damon in the same category, but there is definitely something about that pic. (Damon is talented and intelligent, both very sexy qualities, plus he seems like a genuinely nice guy, but let’s be honest…it’s the bad boys that make our socks roll up and down.)

Vanity Fair put the famous Proust Questionnaire to their three coverboys (the first time it’s been given to more than one subject at a time) and as one might expect, they came up with some interesting, if irreverent, answers, including the fact that George Clooney wants to be reincarnated as his spoiled dog, Matt Damon hates “d-bag”s and Daniel Craig has a third nipple. (Either he was kidding – since he admitted he usually lies when answering questionnaires – or it’s always airbrushed out of films and photographs)

The February 2012 issue of British GQ is out on 5 January, price £3.99. The February issue will also be available on the iPad. Vanity Fair hits the stands in New York and LA on January 4th, and e-Readers on January 10th.

What to Watch: This Week on DVD and Blu-Ray

New Creepy TV spots for Contagion!

It's a very Kate Winslet week on home video. We've already told you about HBO's Mildred Pierce, but she's also got Steven Soderbergh's star-studded medical disaster flick, Contagion available on dvd, blu-ray and two disc combo pack starting today, January 3. We talked about it extensively prior to its theatrical release, but in case you missed it, Contagion is an action-thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease, apparently being spread by birds (don't we have an actual 'bird-flu'? Is this a more virulent strain? Can I get vaccinated for this? OMG, I'm already paranoid!) and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak. It stars Winslet, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard and Laurence Fishburne.  Fun stuff! You'll want to douse yourself in Purell and live in a bubble by the end of it!

Special Features include

 - Contagion: How A Virus Changes The World

- The Reality of Contagion

- The Contagion Detectives

This is actually a pretty good week if you've a mind to watch movies in the comfort of your home. Puncture, which we've talked about recently, starring Chris Evans, is out today as well. Puncture is a legal drama about a drug-addicted lawyer who takes on a health supply corporation while battling his own personal demons. It costars Michael Biehn, Brett Cullen, Vinessa Shaw, one of the directors, Mark Kassan and Jesse L. Martin.

Chris Evans in Puncture Movie Trailer!

The complete list of this week's releases:

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (Katie Holmes, Rated R)

The Guard ( Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Mark Strong Rated R) I HIGHLY recommend this one (expect to see it on my Year End Favorites LIst) You probably missed it at the theater in its very limited release. It's a black comedy about the worst policeman in Ireland, played by Gleason, who teams up with an American FBI agent (Cheadle) to thwart some drug smugglers played by Strong, Liam Cunningham and David Wilmot.

What to Watch: This Week on DVD and Blu-Ray

The Greening of Whitney Brown (Brooke Shields, Rated PG)

Chateau Meroux (Barry Watson, Rated PG-13)

Removal (Billy Burke, Rated R)

Matt Damon in New York, Tom Cruise in London and Madrid, Viggo in Paris (pics)

Matt Damon in New York, Tom Cruise in London andMadrid, Viggo in Paris (pics)

Tis the season for parties and premieres! Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson premiered We Bought a Zoo on Monday night at New York’s Ziegfeld Theater along with director Cameron Crowe and cast members Elle Fanning, Thomas Haden Church, John Michael Higgins, Parker Posey, Patrick Fugit and the adorable Maggie Elizabeth Jones. Matt brought his beautiful wife Lucia, Scarlett looked stoned.

Meanwhile, Viggo Mortensen and his A Dangerous Method director David Cronenberg and costar Vincent Cassel brought the film to Paris. (I love Viggo and Vincent Cassel tres bien, but no Fassy and I'm somehow less interested. Yes, I am that shallow.)

Tom Cruise, as well as Paula Patton, Simon Pegg and director Brad Bird, were all in Madrid on Monday night and London on Tuesday night, continuing the Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol world tour. I can only assume NY and LA will be next. Paula Patton looks like she’s enjoying this tour so much she doesn’t ever want it to end.

I don’t care if it’s the Theton kool-aid, his Aunt Fanny’s secret elixir or a portrait in the attic, Tom Cruise looks amazing.

Enjoy the pics!

New Posters and Images from We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon!

New Posters and Images from We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon!

We have some new posters and new images from We Bought a Zoo. The film is currently a hot topic, at least among people who care about such things, since 20th Century Fox held advance screenings in select cities all over the country last night.

The Twitterverse blew up after people saw Cameron Crowe’s latest in which Matt Damon stars as Benjamin Mee, a widower who…you guessed it, buys a zoo. The consensus seems to be that it’s a pretty good family film. Audiences laughed and cried in all of the right places. It’s not an awards contender, but it’s enjoyable and will probably make the producers some dough. There’s nothing wrong with merely being entertaining, it’s what every movie should strive for on some level and people do need something to take the kids to see during the holidays besides The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The synopsis is simple: Set in Southern California, a father moves his young family to the countryside to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo. It’s also based on a true story.

We Bought a Zoo stars Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, John Michael Higgins, Elle Fanning, Patrick Fugit, Angus Macfadyen and Colin Ford. It opens December 23 in the US and Canada but not until 16th March in the UK.

UK Trailer for We Bought A Zoo!

Trailer for We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon!

It’s been almost two months since we saw the US trailer for Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo and I’d say the first half of this one for the UK market is the same. The second half does give us some new material (although if you’ve been to an AMC theater lately, you’ll have seen it in their “First Look” series.  A new phenomenon I think, but not exclusive to this movie.) The premise of We Bought a Zoo is this: Single dad Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon), in a desire to change his life and improve the lives of his children, moves his family to a rural part of Southern California to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo. Scarlett Johansson plays his fledgling zookeeper and from what little we see here, it looks like they'll have some sweet chemistry.

After films like Jerry Maguire and Say Anything, if there's one thing you can count on with a  Cameron Crowe film, it's heart. I think that given the grin I was sporting while watching this trailer, we can count on it here too. I think that Thomas Haden Church probably sums it up when he says "I like the animals, but I love the people."

Damon, Johansson and HadenChurch star with Elle Fanning, John Michael Higgins, Angus Macfadyen (yum!), Peter Riegert and Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous).  We Bought A Zoo opens on December 23 in the US, Canada and the UK

Trailer for We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon!

Trailer for We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon!

There is finally a trailer for Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo! I've been curious about this for a long time. The premise is that single dad Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon), in a desire to change his life and improve the lives of his children, moves his family to a rural part of Southern California to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo. Scarlett Johannson plays his fledgling zookeeper and from what little we see here, it looks like they'll have some sweet chemistry.

I have to say, I'm a fan of Cameron Crowe's films, particularly Jerry Maguire (and proud of it) and Say Anything. If there's one thing you can count on with a Crowe film, it's heart. And while the film is pretty high-concept, I think that given the grin I was sporting while watching this trailer, we can count on it here too. I think that Thomas Haden Church probably sums it up when he says "I like the animals, but I love the people."

Damon, Johannson and HadenChurch star with Elle Fanning, John Michael Higgins, Angus Macfadyen (yum!), Peter Riegert and Crowe-find Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous).  We Bought A Zoo opens on December 23 in the US, Canada and the UK.
