The Expendables Are Coming Back to F*%k You Up

The Expendables Are Coming Back to F*%k You Up

This time it's personal: In The Expendables 2, Mr. Church (Bruce Willis- who seems to be the current ‘go to’ guy when an aging action hero is required. I say that even though The Expendables 2 is full of aging action heroes. Willis also has Red and GI Joe: Retaliation on his recent resume)  reunites Barney Ross (Stallone) and the rest of the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of his men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.

The Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time – six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….

But really…do we care what it’s about? Are we looking for plot intricacies and character nuance from this band of lean, mean fighting machines? As long as they’re prepared to kick ass, take names and blow some sh*t up, I could not care less. Throw in a couple of gratuitious shots of Jason Statham and they really don’t even have to talk. Perhaps these master thespians could take a cue from The Artist?

Led once again by Stallone’s Barney Ross, Statham’s Lee Christmas and anyone who didn’t die in the first one, the crew includes Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger (who’s really hoping this will make you forget he’s a classless scumbag and has had his role expanded) who are joined by Chuck Norris, whose invitation to the last gig must have gotten lost in the mail, or he was on his Total Gym and couldn’t get up to answer the phone. How the hell did Jean Claude Van Damme miss out on the opportunity to do some ‘van-damage’ (sorry, I had to) last time out? Liam Hemsworth, fresh from the Hunger Games joins the party, but he’s not on the poster. His character is Bill “The Kid” Timmins. So it’s not Ross, but something tells me he’ll turn out to be Barney’s long lost son. As I said before, could be worse. Could be Taylor Lautner. In any case, the rest of the cast includes Terry Crewes, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Scott Adkins, Dolph Lundgren and Charisma Carpenter (So I guess Lacy forgave Lee? Or does she get kidnapped or tied to the railroad tracks?)

Check out the new pics below. There’s a bloody Scott Adkins, a bald and brooding Van Damme and Lundgren with a very big knife and a bad attitude. then check out the comic promo art from the film's Facebook page.

Directed by Simon West (Con Air, The Mechanic), The Expendables 2 opens August 17 in the US and the UK.

Warner Brothers Previews Their 2012 Menu

Warner Brothers Previews Their 2012 Menu

While some studios are still in the thrall of awards-season desserts, Warner Brothers  is giving us some amuse bouche from their 2012 menu. Kicking off the 2012 movie season, Warner Bros.  has released some new images from horror thriller The Apparition with Ashley Greene, Sylvester Stallone's action thriller Bullet To The Head, the musical Rock Of Ages, and the latest Nicholas Sparks based, four hankie tearjerker, The Lucky One, starring Zac Efron. A little something for everyone?

Warner Brothers Previews Their 2012 Menu

The Apparition is about a couple Kelly (Ashley Greene) and Ben (Sebastian Stan) who discover they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured during a university parapsychology experiment. The horrifying apparition feeds on their fear and torments them no matter where they try to run. Their last hope is an expert in the supernatural (Tom Felton), but even with his help they may already be too late to save themselves from this terrifying force…  Written, produced and directed by Todd Lincoln (who has nothing else to recommend him. I have no idea what that indicates), The Apparition also stars Julianna Guill, Rick Gomez, Anna Clark and Luke Pasqualino. It opens August 24

The Lucky One stars Zac Efron as USMC Sgt Logan Thibault who returns from his 3rd tour of duy in Iraq with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive- a photograph of he doesn’t know. He learns her name (Beth played by Taylor Schilling) and where she lives. He shows up on her doorstep and takes a job at her family’s kennel. A romance blossoms, giving Logan hope that Beth could be more than just his good luck charm. It also stars Blythe Danner, Adam Lefevre, Jay R. Ferguson and Riley Thomas Stewart and is directed by Scott Hicks (Shine). The Lucky One (not to be confused with The Lucky Ones from 2008 also having to do with returning soldiers (plural this time) and starring Rachel McAdams, who is in that other Nicholas Sparks movie for 2012, The Vow) opens in theaters on April 20.

Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie (Julianne Hough) and city boy Drew (Diego Boneta), who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and more. It stars Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Alec Baldwin and  Tom Cruise as aging rock legend Stacee Jax. Rock of Ages opens on June 1. Russell Brand appears to be playing some variation of himself, but I love Alec Baldwin’s wig.

Bullet To The Head, directed by Walter Hill (The Warriors, 48 Hrs. The Driver), stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Momoa, Christian Slater and Sung Kang  is based on a graphic novel and tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a New York City cop (Momoa – I think) who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners. It has an April 13 release date. We showed you the first image last week of Momoa trying to split Stallone like a cord of wood. In this one, Sly has a big gun and is obviously trying to outdo my Hawaiian Volcano in the tatts department.

Giant Super Mega Plethora of Posters Post!

Giant Super Mega Plethora of Posters Post!

Relativity Media has released the first two posters for Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror, which opens in the US on March 16 (Beating Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman out of the blocks by nearly 2 months. Curses!). That’s Julia Roberts looking better than she has since Pretty Woman, as the Evil Queen and Lily Collins (daughter of Phil) as Snow White. Armie Hammer plays her Prince.

Giant Super Mega Plethora of Posters Post!

Paramount has released the second poster for The Devil Inside, which opens in the US just in time to rid you of any residual Christmas cheer on January 6 (Kings Day actually). This new poster features a possessed nun, and that is about as scary as it gets, IMHO.

Giant Super Mega Plethora of Posters Post!

This is merely a first teaser poster for Jack the Giant Killer. It’s a modern day fairy tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened, as a young farmer leads an expedition into the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess. Directed by Bryan Singer and starring Nicholas Hoult as Jack along with Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy, Warwick Davis,  Ian McShane and Eddie Marsan, the film opens June 15 in the US and the UK.

The 2nd poster for The Expendables 2 leaves Stallone standing alone among the rubble. (Does that bode ill for the inevitable Expendables 3 cast? Will he have to start from scratch?)In this one, Bruce Willis’ Mr. Church reunites Barney Ross (Stallone) and the rest of the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of his men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat. Directed by Simon West (Con Air, The Mechanic), the film opens August 17 in the US.

And finally, did you know that Goon played TIFF? Somehow that strikes me as a non sequitur. I must say, this movie looks like more fun than it has a right to. The cast is just too talented. It’s like Slap Shot’s goofy cousin. In addition to Seann William Scott, Live Schreiber is playing the villain, Kim Coates the beleaguered coach, Allison Pill the hockey groupie…Goon opens in the UK on 6th January, VOD in the US on February 24 and in a limited theatrical run on March 30.

First Look at Sylvester Stallone and Jason Momoa in Bullet to the Head!

First Look at Sylvester Stallone and Jason Momoa in Bullet to the Head!

We finally have a first look of some sort from Sylvester Stallone's new action movie, Bullet to the Head, costarring Jason Momoa. It looks like this flick is going to be as over the top as…well…Over the Top.

That’s Sly of course, trying to stave off being cleaved in two by an axe. The manly muscled arms trying to do the damage belong to Jason. I’d know that bicep anywhere, not to mention the forearm tatt.

Bullet to the Head, formerly titled Headshot (God, that drives me nuts! Time and time again, a movie has a more clever title and it gets changed to something more idiot friendly), is directed by Walter Hill (48 Hours, Warriors, The Getaway-actually his credits are many. He can do action).

The setup: After watching their respective partners die, a cop and a hitman (Stallone’s Jimmy Bobo (Yes, that’s the character’s name. Something tells me that name is going to be a running gag in the movie. It’s too ludicrous to be played straight.) form an alliance in order to bring down their common enemy.

Momoa plays Keegan and ordinarily I’d say he plays the cop and Christian Slater, whose character is called Marcus Baptiste, would be the “common enemy”, but if that’s the case, something goes horribly wrong somewhere if Jason’s trying to embed an axe into Sly’s skull. And by the way, Sly is 65. Jason is literally half his age and seven inches taller. I have no idea how much either of them weigh, but c'mon. I think it would take the titular bullet for Sly to stop Jason. Just sayin'.

Stay tuned for updates. Bullet to the Head fires at theaters in the US and the UK on April 12.

Holy Crap! The Expendables Are Coming to Kick Your Ass!

Holy Crap! The Expendables Are Coming to Kick Your Ass!

That’s right, all of them! The cast of The Expendables 2 have all been crammed onto this poster and they looked lean, mean and ready to eat glass or f**k you up. They’re back baby, the Godfathers of Action are back in action(now, don’t be mean and call them the Grandfathers. The Stath would have something to say about that I’m sure). Led once again by Sylvester Stallone as Barney Ross, Jason Statham as Lee Christmas, anyone who didn’t die in the first one is back for round two. The cameos by Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger (who’s really hoping this will make you forget he’s a classless scumbag) have, this go-round, been expanded into costarring roles.

They’re joined by Chuck Norris, whose invitation to the last gig must have gotten lost in the mail, or he was on his Total Gym and couldn’t get up to answer the phone. How the hell did Jean Claude Van Damme miss out on the opportunity to do some ‘van-damage’ (sorry, I had to) last time out? We’ve also got an Expendable female, relative unknown, Nan Yu. She looks ready to throw down. Liam Hemsworth, fresh from the Hunger Games joins the party, but he’s not on the poster. I hope that doesn’t mean he plays someone’s (Stallone’s) kid or something clichéd like that. Coulda been worse, coulda been Taylor Lautner.

The plot, which was apparently devised before the first one was even released, is currently under a veil of secrecy, but seriously, does it even matter? If you buy a ticket to this and expect exposition, character development and a cohesive storyline, you’re in the wrong theater. The first one was great fun, but I’ll be van-damned if I can tell you what it was about.

The Expendables 2 blasts its way into theaters all over the world on August 17

Sylvester Stallone Brings You: ‘Rocky’ The Musical

Sylvester Stallone Brings You: 'Rocky' The Musical

Oscar winning Rocky was a very big deal back in the day and in case you need your fix of Rocky Balboa we have some very excellent news for you! Rocky the Musical is coming biatches.

Sylvester Stallone along with the Klitschko boxing brothers (Wladimir used to date Hayden Panettiere) made the announcement at the Rocky The Musical photo call in Hamburg, Germany today. They are joining together to produce the musical along with Kevin King Templeton. You and your boxing gloves will need to exercise some patience because it's not set to hit the stage until November 2012 where the $15 million musical will premiere in Germany.

If you are hoping to see guys beat the crap out of each other on stage, you may be surprised:

"At the end of the day, Rocky is a love story and he could never have reached the final bell without Adrian,” said Stallone. “To see this story coming to life on a musical stage makes me proud. And it would make Rocky proud."

Although Sylvester is going to show more of a romantic side to Rocky, the lead character is getting training from the Klitschko brothers in boxing. That role has yet to be cast.

This is either a really good idea or a really, really bad idea. What do you think? A great idea or no? I guess all depends on how good the script is and it should be quite good as The Producers' Thomas Meehan is writing it and it will include Eye of the Tiger, Gonna Fly Now and Take You back for its music.
