Fassy Brings Shame to TIFF! (PHOTOS)

Fassy Brings Shame to TIFF!

Fresh from his Best Actor win at the Venice Film Festival, Michael Fassbender jumped a plane to make an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Steve McQueen’s Shame. He missed out on the premiere of his other TIFF contender, David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, to stick around for the prize-giving on the Lido but did make it in time for the screening of the film for which he won the award.

Shame was greeted with much the same sort of enthusiasm in Toronto that it met with in Venice, which should come as no surprise. The Venice/TIFF overlap can often up the buzz on a film coming straight from one festival to the other. By all accounts the film lives up to the hype. So can we expect a repeat? No. TIFF does not have a jury and is non-competitive.  Awards handed out at other festivals for categories such as “Best Actress” or “Best Film” do not exist at the Toronto International Film Festival. The major prize is the People’s Choice Award and is given to a feature-length film with the highest ratings as voted by the movie goers at the festival. (Last year’s winner of that prize was The King’s Speech.)

First Sale at TIFF: Shame!

First Sale at TIFF: Shame!

Deadline.com is reporting that the first major sale to be made at this year’s Toronto Film Festival is Steve McQueen’s Shame, with Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. Fox Searchlight has reportedly won the bidding war with the Weinstein Company for the rights to distribute the film.  The deal reportedly means a late 2011 release and Best Actor campaign for Fassbender (woot!!!!). Fox Searchlight is already planning to mount a campaign for George Clooney in the Best Actor category for Alexander Payne’s The Descendants.

The film, which tells the story of 30-something Brandon (Fassbender) whose sexual addiction causes his life to spiral out of control when his equally disturbed sister (Mulligan) comes to live with him, is being released with an NC-17 rating (director McQueen has supposedly refused to cut it to an R) and contains graphic sex. Shame was a hit inVenice (where Fassbender is tipped to earn the Best Actor prize) and had everyone buzzing at Telluride as well. It plays the Toronto International Film Festival later this week.

The words Fassbender, ‘tour de force’ and Oscar all in the same sentence have me near salivating for this one. If all goes according to Fox Searchlight’s new plan, we won’t have to wait to long to see it. On another note, USA Today is reporting that Michael Fassbender has cancelled his plans to be in Toronto to promote Shame as well as David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method. No reason was given other than “circumstances prevented him from being {there}”. VERY curious!

Celebrity Sightings @ 35th Toronto International Film Festival

Tons of stars are showing up in Toronto for the 35th Toronto International Film Festival including someone I would love to get close enough to to smell:  Matt Damon.  I think he would smell like peaches.  Or watermelon.

Ryan Reynolds Is In Toronto [PHOTOS]

Ryan Reynolds Is In Toronto [PHOTOS]

I thought I smelled something rather delicious.  Canadian hottie Ryan Reynolds is in Toronto for the 35th Toronto International Film Festival where we see him here at the photocall for his movie Buried.

Ryan plays Paul Conroy in this thriller/drama:

Paul is a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.

Gee. I hope all of my phone calls and texts don’t drain his battery while he is buried alive.

And if, like me, you can never get enough of Berg we will be seeing lots of him in the coming months because according to IMDB he has lots of projects in the works.

In the meanwhile I need to go shave my legs and head downtown. I got me some stalking to do. And Scar-Jo’s boobs better not get in my way.

George Clooney Is In Toronto!

full_tff_sightings_5_wenn2567411

It’s all clear to me now why I woke up in such a fabulous mood:  George Clooney has arrived in Toronto.  My man meat radar picked up on it.  I feel kind of warm and tingly inside  :)

George is in town for the Toronto International Film Festival or TIFF to premiere his two movies ‘Up In The Air’ and ‘The Men Who Stare At Goats’.  And yeah the pictures all kind of look alike but I’m kind of crazy enough to include them anyways.

I’m going to see ‘Up In The Air’ on Sunday and I am hoping and praying (and making a deal with the devil) that he is there.

Also pictured are Michael Moore, Steve Nash, UFC Fighters Rashad Evans and Nate Marquardt.
